Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Hellstormer let me know that he wouldn't be able to vote this week due to his busy schedule. He didn't want to be unfair and not be able to read all the debates. We still have our lowest vote total we've ever had. I'll bump everything up. If it stays at 8 votes, I'll hold off ending voting until early tomorrow morning. After all, we haven't even had JH vote yet.
Yep I'd rather not vote then be unfair about it. I'm in computer lab right now so I have a couple mins.

I just finished voting, it did not take so long as 3 of the debates I did not read (my own :()

Okay guys, I have a couple things I want to address, though no names will be given. The first bit is just reminder, the second is assumption that could be nothing, but I just want to mention it anyhow.

1) Keep everything friendly, and respect all that is said. Keep the debates clean and do not belittle each other or hint at it. And keep the agressive sarcasm to a minimal. When it's all in fun, cool, but when it's bordering making someone else look stupid, we can do without that. And anything that Phaed or I, and at times, W, say is law. Please respect it.

2) I can't say for sure that this is happening, but I've been watching the past few weeks that we've played and it really seems to me that some aren't reading the debates before voting. I'm seeing quite a few occassions where characters who should win, or at least lose by a close number, are losing. I'm seeing situations where votes are posted in the exact order as the person above them repetatively when several matches are close enough to not have a decisive winner, and I'm seeing indidviduals posting their votes in each thread so quickly there's no chance they read the debates between the votes.

I can't prove that anyone isn't reading the debates, as excuses can be made for any of these, but I just want to remind everyone that if you are a) just voting to get it over with without consideration to the other players, b) just copying the votes of the person above you, or c) not reading a debate because you feel it's already a lost cause... you are breaking rules. If it ever becomes proven to me that someone is doing this then I will take severe action. People put a lot of effert into their write ups and it's rude and uncalled for to just throw that aside. If you don't have time to vote fairly, then you shouldn't be playing at all.

I just wanted to get that out. I'm not calling out anyone, and I don't suspect anyone over another. But I will start watching these things more closely and I want everyone to know it. Please vote fairly, it's part of the fun of the game.

And there's no need to try to prove that you aren't doing any of the above listed above. I don't care to read it. I'm not pinpointing anyone. I just want everyone to keep all that was said in the back of their minds.

Yea really guys if you can't give everyone a chance then don't bother. ;)

Either tonight or tomorrow morning I'll end voting. Just want to give anyone a chance who didn't vote. Matches for next week will be posted by 12:00 PST tomorrow.

Sweet, only a couple of more weeks until that Moonknight/Photon match hellstormer :D

It was great to read the new Wizard this week, and see that they recommended Stormwatch:PHD as the book of the month. I finally read issues 1-4 that I've been collecting, after I saw Newsarama say it was really good. It's definitely the best WorldStorm title from Wildstorm; although, most of those books are pretty bad...or greatly delayed. So, if you guys want a good comic to read, go the your LCN and pick up this book. You don't even have to worry about knowing anything about previous issues of Stormwatch. I don't know anything about them, and I've picked up the main stuff I'm suppose to know.

LOCATION: Asgard

Asgard is a planetoid existing in a alternate dimension within the mainstream Marvel Comics' universe, Earth-616. It is based on the Asgard of Norse mythology and is home to six different races. Asgard features prominently in tales of Thor. In the comic books, Asgard is an asteroid-like world suspended in a "Sea of Space". Gravity radiates from somewhere underneath this asteroid. The top of this "asteroid" is flat like a table. If someone stepped off of this "table", they would fall off the "asteroid" and down through space until they reached the "gravity-generator". Asgard can only be reached from Earth by crossing Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge.

(Since the residents of Asgard wouldn't take to kindly to people invading their home and fighting, all residents of Asgard have been removed. Plus, nobody will have access to objects within Asgard that are specific to certain Asgardian individuals, like Odin. Simply put, it would be too difficult to access whether or not individuals would be able to lift or use these objects, and it's easier to go with that ruling.)

^ I could too. I don't have any really easy matches this week and I could see myself going 4-0 or 0-4 depending on my "skillz" this week.

I have dubbed these week "Harlekin was awesome and had a winning streak"-week. Catchy, innit?

Great debates from all of my opponents. Really didn't expect Hisako to win, for one.

A couple things to go over. First, I'm going on Vacation from March 30-April 8th; so, someone will have to take over for me in my absence. (Probably Wiegeabo or JH.) Luckily, before I leave I should be able to get opening arguments up at work and I'll be back before debating closes for the following week.

Second, I was thinking about a slight change in the schedule. We always have some debating going on Tuesday, it seems. What does everyone think about debating going through to Wednesday 8:00 am PST, with voting from Wednesday at 8:00 am PST to Friday at 8:00 am PST. That way, those who don't get a chance to debate on weekends can then have two days of debates on Monday and Tuesday. Of course, it's reasonable to think that people will still do last minute debating; but, I'm wondering if it would be lessened this way.

That's funny, I dubbed this week "Phaedrus got extemely lucky with two of his debates, especially considering even the slightest debate probably could have eliminated Famine."

I second that motion!

The new time sounds good to me.

And I can post up the April 6th matches. We get that day off from work. :word:
