Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

And Phaed, are you starting to feel the bane of doing so well last season like I am? I have 6 matches! That sucks!

Actually, I find this week much easier than last week, when I originally had 3 battles that I knew I'd probably lose. This week, I'm really thinking I might pull out 3 of the five battles I have. (One is guaranteed, since I have two characters against each other.)

Yesterday, I did get all my opening debates up; but, the way the Hype's been this week, Nimrod vs. Terrax failed to post. I'll probably redo that this weekend. After typing it up the first time, I was too pissed to do it again.

and Death's Head II currently in debate

Wow, DHR has had a bad 2nd round. He has one match this week and the rest were loses (some heavy hitters gone sadly). Should we wait until after this week to dish the rest of the characters out, or go ahead now so someone can debate the Death's Head match? He's facing my Cyclops, and I don't mind, but we waited for Ice/Psy to dish them. I'm okay either way. What's your thought on it Phaed?

Priority for DHR's characters should be given to those that only got one character the last time. It still would mean one person (or two if Death's Head II loses) wouldn't get a second character, but it would make things as fair as can be.

And I say wait until the next round starts to give them out. It's what we did last time.

We will let this week finish; then we'll pass out the remaining characters. Those who received two with Ice/Psy's won't be eligible, if you think that's fair. Then, I'll throw my name off the list, too. I'll pass out the remaining as the original list of participants went with Ice/Psy. All I know about that list is that Prime will get the first character, then whoever after him will get the six remaining.

Here is the list of people who are eligible for characters from DHR's list, in order of who will get them:

Primemover
Zoken
Hippy
Hellstormer
Ahura
Kytrigger
Wiegeabo
Midnight

Here is the list of available characters:

Mr. Fantastic
Nick Fury
Titania
Punisher
Professor X
Juggernaut (Classic)
Ghost Rider (Blaze)
Monet St. Croix - DHR got her when we gave away Ice/Psy's characters.

That means if Death Head's II is still available after this round, it will even itself out, and I'll add my name back onto the list. (Although, since he's not being debated, it generally assumes he'll get eliminated; but, he is a very strong character; so, there is always a chance.)

Does this strike everyone as fair?

Man, The Hype's been really, really bad about the lag time and dropping posts this week. I think I've had 5 that didn't go through, and quite a few where I have to keep pushing Preview Post, so I don't lose what I've typed.

hey what's up......how are things going? I'd like to see what the standings look like...is there a current listing?

Myself, I have been wicked busy beyond belief....I wish I had as much free time as I did before....my work has been exceedingly busy.......so much so, I still can't catch up with it....

I hope all the old boys are doing well...Phaed, JH, Wieg, Blaze, Ice, Sparta, and even you Harl...:p.....I hope life is treating you all well....and things are going good for you all....

POWdER!!!

Things are well here. 2nd round, things get heated, had a couple drop outs, you know how it goes. Good to see ya, stop in more often! And you missed a good yell fest between Phaed and I a few months back... it'll go in the greatest hits cd for sure.

And Phaed, I think that's a fair deal in regards to DHR's characters. You want to deal out the characters or do you want me to do it?

Oh, and believe it or not, I never have been able to get into Thor. Out of curiosity, can his Hammer and Belt of Strength be stripped of him? How strong is he without the belt? Also, he can go long periods without breathing... right?

It'd be pretty tough to get the belt of strength away from him. Even harder to just take his hammer. He's class 100 without the belt, and he is capable of stalemating and beating the Hulk. The belt actually doubles his strength but is very tiring, and therefore he hardly uses it. And yes, he can go long periods without breathing (I'm not even sure he needs to).

Powder!!!!

Good to hear from you, buddy. Things are going good, and yes, the contests are getting more and more heated. I think Zoken and I have a good one going right now, and at times it gets right to the edge. (But, we have both talked via PM and agree we're both going to give it our all, and understand it's just words and not a slight on each other in the slightest.) Even with JH's and my match this season, it still doesn't compare to Kid Omega vs. Blackbolt. I'm glad I had that match last season; it's made me more aware of how I want to act this season with some of my matches. Best thing we can do is learn from our mistakes. The best thing is all of us seem to be able to let these things pass with each new week and remain friends.

Round 2 is the kicker, though. As we recruited for this season, I knew Round 2 would be like last season; some people would end up dropping out, because life has a way of presenting challenges for us down the road and this is a very long commitment, which even I sometimes feel like I need a break from. (One of the reasons I didn't debate until Monday last week; I just didn't have it in me to debate, especially knowing I'd be getting my butt kicked with a bad selection of draws and just needed a small break.)

I wanted to discuss what happened in Thread 2 with my match with Pluto vs. Garrision Kane. Most times in the past, it's up to your opponent to figure out if an inaccuracy is stated. Sometimes I've read some debates and haven't responded to things I believe are wrong. It was up to the opponent to do the research and figure out inaccuracies in a debate. I wish I had some examples, but I can't remember at this time. Usually, I get involved if it's a timing issue that goes against some set rules, like "Nothing involving current storylines," as JH did with the Zemo match and where the line is drawn with those current issues.

I was unsure about some posts this week, because I saw them right on the line of whether they should be allowed or not. In the end, as a debator of my match, it's hard to be responding to two arguments from two different people. If I'm wrong, as I seem to partially be with Kane, I'll admit it. But, I wanted JH to make a decision on this case what is ok and what isn't, especially since it involves my own match. As JH says, it's easier for a decision via a PM to either JH, Wiegeabo, or myself, as long as we're not involved in the match. And, for this reason I diverted the question to JH. Like I said, it's one of those things that are right on the line of the rules. I totally understand why they were posted and it's very possible it's within the rules. I just didn't want to outright say anything and think I'm doing it only because it's my match. Feel free to respond in any way and voice your opinion. It would end up helping us decide what we should do in the future. I just want everyone to think of it from all sides: The opponent who is possibly incorrect in what they are saying, the opponent whose suppose to research his character and opponent to see if what's debated it correct, the readers who aren't involved but might see an inaccuracy. Think how you'd feel under all the different circumstances. I've been on all sides, and I still don't know how I quite feel about this.

I know how that feels....lmao.......I felt I always was getting the bad draws....but just somehow I worked in a way to get the win.....even if it was just by one vote......I still love the fact that I almost beat Thanos with Charles......

But Kid Omega and Blackbolt was certainly a bare knuckles brawl......but it was a good match any way you look at it.......although I could say the same thing with some others I had with you and a bunch I had with Harl, blaze, Wolv, and JH......Nico and Scorpion comes to mind....

It's good to see a welcome....I have been having a hard time as of late....but that's life....I will try to stop by when I can.....and get some votes up.....

I'd hate to see innacuracies decide a match, even if both sides didn't know they were innacuracies. Major innacuracies should be brought up by the mods, either based on their own knowledge, or pm's by the rest of us.

If you wanted to maintain the sanctity of the battle between the two combatants and the knowledge and research they bring, those things should just be mentioned afterwards, in some official way so everybody knows it and this knowledge can be utilized in the future rounds so innacuracies won't be continued.

I remember with one match, I decided if I faced that person, I was going to make sure the same inaccuracy would have been debated by me. I think the problem lies with the fact that some of us spend a lot of time with our matches and the debates. It gets frustrating to be arguing one thing and then defending another argument. (In the end, it does help sometimes, though. Like with this case, I believe I've done a good job of proving Kane's "metal control," because I went the extra distance, looked at the Official Handbook, and realized it was a power he "officially" did have. But, one of the things I look back and enjoyed about my match with JH with Mercury vs. Deadgirl is that he was up to challenging by debates, and visa versa. But, that was between him and me.)

Again, I'm confused on which I prefer. I do find it cool that Harlekin seems to know so much information and is a great help. I definitely appreciate having him in this contest.

Just letting everyone know I'll be back on later tonight. My daughter is getting on my case about using the computer. She wants whatever someone is using at that moment. I really like being at work Monday-Wednesday and Friday, because I can use the computer to think through my thoughts. (Thursday, as you guys know, the daughter comes to work and demands the computer at least half the day.) On weekdays, I don't get to think through my words as well, because the kids are constantly talking to me while I'm trying to collect my thoughts and put words down on the post. It really tends to aggrivate me, and it's better to just get off the computer and keep my sanity.

FOUL BLASPHEMER!

I harbor nothing but hatred for all those I face in my matches! How dare you make me sound intelligent and sportsman-like. I take great offence. Now I must go and be an arrogant prick, because I think that's sexy. To the Prick-Cave Jerk-Boy!

Wow... absolutely none of that was intended to sound dirty but... It just kinda came out that way.

Thanks for the praise Phaed and good to see you again Powder.

I'm okay with restricting the "corrections" to PM's to one of the mods. It got a little out of hand this week.

Yeah Baby! I miss my Nico... dang Hippie! I'm going to have to take her down this round with my Scarlet Spider :(

YES! It's baseball season coming soon. My son's birthday is tomorrow, and I just got him three upcoming Saturday games. I love that MLB games are so inexpensive; but, the tickets are the cheap part. It seems like I don't get away without spending an additional sixty dollars per game by the time it's all done. (And, that's not talking gas to drive an hour and a half to get to the stadium.) Anyone else taking in their teams baseball games?

Umm what happenned? Because I posted before leaving and then when I saw it there were a bunch of edited posts
