Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

I'll honour Ahura's request if JH and Phaed think it's okay.

EDIT: By the way, thanks for the gracious compliments Phaed.

My initial reaction is that this is not allowed in the rules. Others made this mistake in the past and had to pay for that failure (i.e. Hippy and Prime come to mind). Now, you did get Harlekin's ok, and I am in talks about this with Wiegeabo and JH; so, I'll get back to you on our decision.

as someone who's lost characters to this before, but who would gain no benefit from either decision, I say let him go again. The guy's a hulk fanboy, he'll cry if he loses hulk by default ;) :p

The second ruling I'm defering to JH is in Thread 3 regarding the counting of the vote for Ultimus by Ahura. I simply asked JH if he'd count the vote for Ultimus or leave it off if he was tallying votes.

Having Harlekin say it's ok really has me on the fence ready to switch over to the other side. Like I said, we'll discuss it and get back to everyone on it.

I understand either way as the only one at fault is myself but I would truly appreciate a second chance given Hulk is my favorite character. In any case, thanks harl, for accepting this and Phaed and the others for considering it.

Though it's very generous for Harlekin to give permission, I really feel that the match should remain and the votes count. It really does suck for Ahura, as I know he's a Hulk nut, and the Hulk's one of those major characters that we all wait to see if and how he's going to go down, but if we haven't bent the rules before now, I don't feel we should do it for this instance.

But I won't be a complete bad guy.... here's my official stance:

If W decides that it's okay, and Phaed decides to change his opinion to it being okay, then I won't mind their two votes overturning mine and the rematch happening next week. But I don't want this becoming a normal problem for anyone during the rest of this season or the next (when we decide to start it up, probably following the DTL's first season or two, since they go much quicker than we do). HOWEVER..... if any participating player has a major problem with this, then we should definately not bend the rules in the slightest. That is my stance.

And as for the Ultimus vote... it should be voted. Ahura said that he'd rather refrain, but if he had to vote, he'd vote Ultimus. Well, the rules say that there has to be a vote for every match for any votes to be counted, so being that he does have to vote, and he said if he had to he'd vote Ultimus, then the vote for Ultimus should be counted.

And there's my 2 cents (why isn't there a cent sign on a key board? I've always wondered that)

I let Phaed know (not sure if he posted it) that I'm ok with a Hulk rematch next week. If Harl didn't agree to it, or had any reservations, I'd say not a chance. But Harl is being more than a good sport about it, so I'm willing to let it slide this time.

If it's not explicitly stated in the rules this season, it should definitely be spelled out next season. Otherwise I can see it becoming a 'tuck rule' (for those that follow US Football. Maybe we can call it the 'Hulk rule'). If you miss a match, for whatever reason, you miss the match. It might be harsh, but no exceptions. (Just by saying this I know I'm going to miss a couple of matches next season and be *****ing and moaning about the rule I wanted spelled out.)

It would of course be different if you knew ahead of time you'd miss a match. Then you could pm matches to one of us (but could still miss out on rebuttles) or, if your opponent is ok with it, push the match off a week.

But, for now, I say let the Hulk rematch proceed. We're so close to the end, it would be a shame to lose Hulk by default now. (Much better than losing him in the first round last season.)

Ok....I will say from this moment on, if you miss a match, that's just your bad luck.

Now, everyone has 24 hours to PM me if they have an objection to this rematch. No names will be given if you don't agree. All I'll say is that someone didn't believe it to be fair or whatever.

Only because Harlekin said it was alright and because I know Hulk is very important to Ahura am I going along with this. This is a one time thing, as I don't want someone put in a position of looking like a jerk if they don't feel comfortable being in this position. Plus, I know Ahura is not interested in prizes, but just the fun of playing the game. I'd hate for this one thing to take away from his enjoyment.

You can still back out Ahura. :p Panther is gonna win either way.

Don't mention it.

Seriously, don't. People might find out.

It's only because I love you and your Asgardian fixation. :o

Voting Is Over!!!

(If anyone still has any qualms over the rematch, you can still PM me by tonight. I know I won't be able to post the matches tomorrow; so, I figure I'd get everything going right now while I have time.)

i,m going on holiday tonight so for next week I'm probably gonna have to pm you my debates phaed. Who have I got this week?

Damn, lost Pulsar. Gonna have to pull out the stops then to beat Maestro (and I hate Poccy :().

I have cable vs frankie raye and beta ray vs Xcutioner this week. My opponents are phaed and weig

any chance you guys would be willing to delay the matches till next week. Short of scouting out an internet cafe I have literally NO internet access this week and I don't have time to pm the debates now as my flight leaves in 3 hours. I wouldn't ask but these are probably my two favourite characters out of my entire list.

I'll be on for another half hour so let me know

Thanks

Sorry about the delay, guys. We lost power here and it just came back on. I'm back on the brackets.

I will have debating last until next Wednesday, if that helps. Any matches that happen this week will now be in next week's fights, as each bracket will be down to four contestants.

Ok, we ran out of locations; but, I pulled six that haven't been used. For fairness, we will just go in alphabetical order with the weeks.

1) Avalon - Not populated
2) Hell's Kitchen - populated
3) Hydro-Base - not populated
4) Providence - not populated
5) Stamford - (Before events in Civil War.) - populated
6) Stark Tower - not populated

Location: AVALON

Avalon was a fictional space station inhabited by the Acolytes, a cult devoted to Magneto and his views on human-mutant relations. It first appeared in the Fatal Attractions storyline in Marvel Comics's X-Men books.
Avalon was originally named Greymalkin, and was the property of Cable. An interesting part of Greymalkin's construction was its Professor, not to be confused with Professor X. Greymalkin faked its destruction when S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to take it over, dumping parts in the ocean and in X-force's base, but the remaining parts, including its core remained, now using cloaking to hide itself.
Magneto discovered the abandoned space-station, deactivated the Professor and used Shi'ar technology to expand it, turning it into his new base and sending out his new servant Exodus to bring worthy mutants to it. His first choice were several members of X-force, who had been students of Magneto when they were part of the New Mutants. X-force leader, Cable, followed them and managed to disable Avalon's teleportation system and copy the Professor from the core of the station into his own techno-organic bodyparts. Cable and his team escaped, but former New Mutants Rusty Collins and Skids remained on Avalon with Magneto.
Shortly afterwards, Magneto sent Exodus to bring his followers, the Acolytes, to Avalon as well. He declared that Avalon would be a safe heaven for all mutants, away from humanity. The X-Men battled Magneto and he was put into a coma. Exodus took over the leadership of the Acolytes and Avalon. The Acolyte Milan repaired the teleportation systems of Avalon.
Avalon was destroyed by a battle between Holocaust and Exodus. Exodus tried to gather the pieces of Avalon to rebuilt it shortly afterwards, but halted his plans when Joseph turned up, thinking that Joseph was Magneto. Pieces of Avalon and Greymalkin were later gathered by Cable to build the island of Providence, his current base of operations.
Avalon is also shown and is a level on the SNES Game X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse and on the Sega Genesis game X-Men 2: Clone Wars. In Magneto's ending in Marvel Super Heroes, he uses the Infinity Gauntlet to create a new Avalon, an entire moon to serve as a homeworld for Mutantkind.
