Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Debating May Begin!!!

(Also, location is right before the last appearance, before Avalon was destroyed.)

Yay for youtube and FFVIII!

Best game ever made... well, after Mario 3 that is. Then again, I'm not much of a gamer, so I don't like many. I could probably make a top 10 list, and that'd be all the games I like at all in the slightest. Let's test that, in the order I like them....

1) Super Mario Brothers 3 (Nintendo)

2) Final Fantasy 8 (Playstation)

3) Shining Force 2 (Sega Genesis)

4) Spiderman: Maximum Carnage (Sega Genesis)

5) Shining Force (Sega Genesis)

6) Blades of Steel (Nintendo)

7) Final Fantasy 7 (Playstation)

8) Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis)

9) Evander Holyfield (Sega Genesis)

10) Mike Tyson's Punch Out (Nintendo)

11) Space Invaders (Atarii)

Well, I was off by one. There's a few more I debated puting on the list, but the more I thought about them the more I was really indifferant and wouldn't really say I LIKED them. They were just okay to play but I wouldn't go out of my way to play them again.

Asteroids (Atari)
Mario 1 and 2 (Nintendo)
Turtles 2 the Arcade Game (Nintendo)
X-Men 2: The Clone War (Sega Genesis)
X-Men Legends (Playstation)

Man, all this talk is making me want to go play FF8 again. Last time I tried to play it I spent almost 30 hours straight just building my characters up before even starting the missions and was a powerhouse... then my brother-in-law, AnnoyingSilence for those of you who know him, went and sold the game so I couldn't finish it. I was so mad. I'll have to see about getting one of those Immulators so I can play it on the computer.

Oh, and Contest related.... I'm down to my last character! Go Wallflower Go!

I don't think so. I think I was the most possible, and I managed to save Wallflower. (I wasn't too concerned with Scarlet Spider as he wouldn't have made it past the next round, but I was really hoping for Gamesmaster)

Voting Is Over!!!

(If anyone still has any qualms over the rematch, you can still PM me by tonight. I know I won't be able to post the matches tomorrow; so, I figure I'd get everything going right now while I have time.)

Christ, I am sorry for missing voting again. :(

Not a PC game in the mix, disgusting.

I am so stoked. I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by...not switching to Geico!

Seriously. We had to change our policy, and I shopped around online, and found that Ameriprise (through Costco) was the cheapest. I'm saving about 100 bucks a month! :D And I got to do everything online. No agent necessary.

Just had to get that out.

Yes, we did lose one contestant: Zoken. It's now down to 10! (And, unless Darth and Prime show up and debates his final character, we might be down to eight.)

Hmmm...best video games???

I'd have the last Marvel game. It was just so neat to get to play some different characters, like Deadpool.

Madden always is on my top list.

My boy and I always loved Smackdown vs. Raw. All the different types of matches, like Elimination Chamber and Royal Rumble are a lot of fun.

I haven't played some of the earlier Final Fantasy; but, Final Fantasy X was my first, I believe, and it blew me away.

First time I played Kingdom Hearts, I loved it instantly.

Grand Theft Auto....that game was THE GAME when it came out. Even driving in the car, picking the radio station to listen to...awesome!

Mario and Zelda...the last Zelda game is just great....but, my favorite and one I actually finished was the Zelda game for the Super Nintendo.

I love the Burnout games. It's fun just to see how many cars you can crash in one accident.

Halo, definitely. I have to watch out for some shooter games, though. I get that whole motion sickness thing. It peeves me that I can't play some games I bought, knowing I'll be extemely nautious.

I loved the old LucasArts games. Man, I can remember the names right now...something like Zak McCracken and Night of the Tentacle. You'd have to have played them to know what I mean. Oh, and they had Monkey Island. Plus, LucasArts put out this cool Western Shooter that wasn't a big seller, but it was my favorite. You just go into a western town, you can go in any building, and you have to watch out for the bad guys. I like War Games; but, the Western atmosphere was a lot more fun.

The last game I finished completely that I loved was Rainbow Six: Vegas. It was nice to have a war game that was in a setting most of us know. Shooting up slot machines and being stealthy has never been so much fun.

Lastly, Oblivion. Great game.

Oh, and lastly lastly...I love Elebits for the Wii. I know a lot of others might not, but it's just good fun and no violence.

I saved a ton of money by switching to a car insurance I got in the mail: AIG. My payments went down by almost half of what Allstate was charging me.

Allstate is just too expensive. They give you a lot of cool benefits (at least according to the commercials), but it doesn't sound like it's worth the price.

It really is a great game. You should play some of the other Final Fantasy games (mainly VII, VIII and IX) which will make you love Kingdom Hearts even more since you will then know the FF characters as well as the Disney ones.

Heh, I don't even know what insurance we have or how much we pay. My wife does all that stuff. I'm so out of the loop.

And as for the lack of PC games... I've played a few and just haven't gotten into them. Doom and Tribes were fun for a short bit but got old fast. Counter Strike was okay. I just haven't gotten into them.

There is a great computer game love which is called Age of Wonders. It combines things like building cities, conquering empires, creating armies and so on and so forth.

I also bought the playstation 3 but to honest I do not use it often.

To the commissioners of the game, Harlekin and I need a ruling as to the Hulk he is facing. He has put forward this is not the incarnation of the Hulk that went into Planet Hulk (taking the incarnation from the last panel before the Planet hulk storyline started) when I thought it had been settled it was.

Well, I think our cut off point for storylines was October 2006 (can't remember of the story had to be finished by Sept or Oct).

Going by publication dates, Planet Hulk: Exile ended in May. Planet Hulk: Anarchy ended in October. So I think those would be ok (unless it needed to be done by September).

But, if we're considering Planet Hulk parts 1, 2, 3, and Finale as a storyline in its entirety, it didn't end until April, so none of it could be used.

For me, at least, that's the question to clear up. Is each part of Planet Hulk its own storyline, or the whole thing one long story.

(I used this site for reference: http://comics.ign.com/articles/678/678514p1.html)

Actually, we ruled before this is not "Planet Hulk" Hulk. The Planet Hulk is a complete storyline. This Hulk is the "Savage" Hulk from comics past, as his name implies.

I have a couple questions.

Is the savage Hulk I have the planet Hulk intelligence equivalent?

Yeah, Savage Hulk would be very similiar to the Planet Hulk version.

I am referring to these two posts. I have never stated in my current battle that this is the Hulk with the Gladiator armour just that it is a Hulk who is intelligent and uber mad for being shot into space which was done before the Planet hulk story line.

Harlekin has declared he is not.

Now please can we clear this up and I am referring to the intelligence level of the Hulk.

This is a difficult determination. It's clear when discussing the intelligence of this Savage Hulk you cannot use the intelligence level of the "Planet Hulk" Hulk...For, instances of that Hulk using his level of intelligence should not be used in arguments. All I can say is this Hulk isn't so lame he only says "Hulk Smash;" But, I always figured you cannot imagine much more, either. We'll see what JewishHobbit has to say regarding this.

The thing is the Hulk's intelligence was not upgraded during Planet Hulk. It was upgraded by Peter David when he took over from Bruce Jones who already had a pretty intelligent Hulk.

The Hulk who saw himself rocketted off in space was intelligent and this is before Planet hulk.

Now I have always put forward that I have the Hulk from the last panel BEFORE the start of Planet Hulk. I am extremely confused if this is not the confuse as to the reasons why.

The rule was it was the latest incarnations unless there was a major upgrade to make him too uber, which is not the case, or they lost their powers (HOM storyline). Neither was the case here.

The planet Hulk intelligence was not created during Planet Hulk.

The planet Hulk intelligence was not created during Planet Hulk.

This season, when we made up the roster, we specifically wanted to select a certain type of Hulk. It wasn't going to be "the most recent" version, as the most recent was continually going through various changes. For that reason, we all voted and determined it would be "Savage Hulk" and that's why we didn't just specify the contest version as just "Hulk." This Hulk does not have the intelligence as you might have seen before. I'm positive JH will back this up; but, we'll wait to see what he also remembers.

Okay, let me define my argument here:
- What character is in play here? The Hulk (Savage Hulk)
-- What are the brackets used for? To denote a specific version. That means in 9 cases out of 10, that character is not the character's current version, similar to how we have Juggernaut (Villain).
- What are the defining characteristics of the Savage Hulk?
-- Savagery.
-- Low intelligence.
-- Great desire to be left alone.
- What is the Hulk as positioned by PAD/Greg Pak?
-- Reasonably civil.
-- Quite intelligent.
-- Great desire to be left alone.
- That's not the Savage Hulk then is it?

Look, I didn't say anything before because I didn't think much of it (or think it through), but this is pretty important. The version we are using here is the Savage Hulk, so that means the dumb green behemoth.

This is not the "current Hulk", because then he wouldn't have the "Savage Hulk" label.

Most characters are current versions, or versions before current storylines. But, as Harlekin says, we specifically noted certain characters by giving them clues to their character. (As he says, "Juggernaut(Villian)" was one; "Savage Hulk" was another.) We knew just labeling him as Hulk would present a problem; so, Trigger, Powderman, JH, Wiegeabo and myself all weighed the various Hulk personas: Intelligent Hulk, Grey Hulk, Savage Hulk, and after voting, we wanted Savage. This was to avoid any confusion, as I stated. Again, I'll await confirmation with JH; but, I'm 99% sure this is correct.

Is there any voting going on at the moment?
