The Dark Knight Official Critics Reviews of TDK

Gah, I so totally rather read fan reviews then critic's. The only time I read official reviews is years after a movie is released; for some reason, it makes me feel better, lol.

I was reading Ebert's review a while ago, and while he only had good things to say about the movie something stuck out to me. Ebert really isn't very good at comprehending details in movies anymore. He makes a point in his review to compare the Joker and Batman because of their childhood traumas. I thought it was pretty clear in the movie that Joker was lying about how he got his scars, but Ebert didn't seem to catch that.

It's happened before too, in his review for I Am Legend. He questions why Will Smith is looking for a cure since he's the only human left, when it's fairly obvious that he wants to find a cure to try and gradually change people back to the way they were.

It just stuck out to me, it seems Ebert's loosing his edge. :(

I caught that one too. Ebert has moments like that, I remember when he reviewed the Matrix sequels and there have been others like that. But then he'll strike with an inspired insight into the heart of a movie and makes you believe again....

That's what makes things like Dementia and Alzheimer's so difficult, the persons mind can come back in a rush and they can seem/act normal for a period before relapsing back into the fog. Not saying that Ebert has either of these, but he's starting to slip. It may just be that he's lost his love for the job.

It's not that, because he loves movies, but he has had a few rough years with cancer and a few other health complications, face disfiguration and the inability to talk. My deepest sincere sympathies to him and I pray he gets better.

In Ebert's defense, his words are:

...he seeks revenge, he claims, for the horrible punishment his father exacted on him when he was a child.

Technically, Ebert is correct about Joker "claiming" the horrible treatment by his father.

Then he says:

...and we realize that this conflict is between two adults who were twisted by childhood cruelty — one compensating by trying to do good, the other by trying to do evil.

I'm not sure Ebert necessarily missed anything here. I think it is Ebert's opinion that Joker's first claim about his father has some truth to it.

Who cares? Movie critics suck and are elitist. I will only read a review for amusement, not to sway me in any way on a movie. I don't even know how some of these guys become critics, since many complaints for films I have read in a critic review have been horrendously stupid.

Ebert I think is the worst cause he has an "I am the best attitude." The ultimate in elitist critics.

206 Fresh 12 rotten. Shouldn't that make it 95% on Rotten Tomatoes?

It's based on the percentage of the total reviews..
right now it's 206/218 = 94.49 %
if one more positive review comes in it'll be
207/219 = 94.52 % ~ 95%
