The Dark Knight Official Critics Reviews of TDK

That's it, it The Dark Knight is like The Departed in more elaborate costume. :woot:

And minus an f-bomb every other minute.:cwink:

No, it's not an insult to label Nolan's film as a superhero movie. I think it is an accomplishment to take what everyone thought would be a popcorn flick and turn it into the movie that now every other superhero movie from now on will be judged against. Nolan is no Scorsese but damn Nolan did a fantastic job.

The person I feel really sorry for is the next guy to direct a comic adaptation, he's probably considering quitting as of today coz he's got one hell of a mountain to climb.

The Dark Knight one-liner:
Faux Batman: "What makes you any different than us?!"
Batman: "I'm not wearing hockey pads!"

The Departed one-liner:
Dignam: "I can't wait to wipe that ****ing smirk right off your face."
Costello: "Would you rather wipe my ass for me?"

I cant believe TDK is at 94% on RT

It used to be 100%. It's just that two critics gave it a bad review because they either though it was too long or that it wasn't written well. It is interesting to note that those same two critics did admit that it was a good film.

Why would it be an insult to call this a superhero movie? Whats wrong with superheros? Whats wrong with comics? You belittle your own medium and genre of choice with that statement. Comics, and superheroes, are every bit bit as worthy of acclaim as any other medium or genre...sometimes even moreso.

Exactly. Batman is considered a superhero, so it's a superhero movie. Don't try to deny what it is, LOL.

It doesn't follow the typical superhero movie formula though, so if "superhero movies" are now redefined because of TDK, I'm certainly not complaining. :yay:

At what am I intended to direct my attention? The Russian sex slaves?

Ridiculous huh?

This has more nuances with the superhero genre than it does with the crime drama. However, the writing and acting in this is so superb that it is wonderful that it is more than just a superhero movie. But at the end of the day, this will go down as a superhero movie. Crime dramas are also quite a bit more realistic than this. This won't win best picture at the Oscars but I do hope Nolan wins a directing or writing nod. It also pains me to see people throwing out Heath as a potential winner because he is dead and the Academy rarely does that...and that biased bull**** is what has made hollywood so corrupt and lame.

A superhero crime drama....:woot:

Well I just secured my tickets for tomorrow. The morning news scared me. The today shows top story: TDK SOLD OUT

These amazing reviews are a double edged sword.

Oh it won't win best picture...that will go to some supposed "REAL" character based film where they have no costumes. Give me a break.....

It should at least get nominated for Best Picture though...without a doubt...

that's the thing about TDK, it's much more than "just a superhero" movie...the writing is excellent, it clearly evokes emotions and can be considered a crime drama...the only thing that separates TDK from The Departed is you have a guy in a batsuit fighting a make-up wearing villian

I agree and the other differences is the amount of blood and cussing involved....

It'll be hard for the Academy not reward it with at least nomination, I think there will be too much pressure on them, whether it can win is a different story.

well Watchmen comes out in March...

I disagree. I don't think it's that good.

But hey, nor do I think No Country should have won all the awards it did.

And since WALL-E got 96%, that means WALL-E pwns Batman!!

yes, I realize the RT scores of those two very different movies have no bearing on each other - I just wanted to raise a few Batfans' blood pressure. :oldrazz:

Basically what the internet community feels is that TDK should win for best pic, best screenplay, best director, best actor/actress/supporting, cinematography, editing, sound, score, and overall immortality. The last comic-type flick to get a nod was Dick Tracy, wasn't it? It's getting acclaim, but we'll see how it pans out....to be honest, most people view movies based on comic books as just that...movies based on comic books.

I'm not into fanboy hyperbole at all, but I can honestly say this film deserves nods for Picture, Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography, and a certified win for Ledger.

There's no friggin' way anyone can tell me this doesn't deserve consideration. No....friggin'....way.

Of course. Honestly I feel TDK is a pattern that needs to CONTINUE in order to sustain this level of respectability in mainstream. After a while the biases will become less and less until the ones left have little power.

Otherwise theyll begin looking on TDK as a "freak of nature" if you will, a happy accident and still diss the genre.

Totally agree with this. Will comic movies still be of such a high caliber? I dont know. Movie quality still seems to be a mixed bag. For every Dark Knight, Iron Man and Spider-Man 2 there are more Fantastic Four 2's and Ghost Riders.

It's not a good ratio, but I think The Dark Knight might actually be a turning point for the superhero genre, I think WB especially will see what Nolan's done and translate the same process into bringing to screen other franchises like Flash, GL and WW. I think The Dark Knight heralds the start of a new superhero film era, the time when they are treated seriously and not just as eye candy, and it will be for the better.
