Suh-weeeeet. T4P!

Okay, who cares who's to blame? Cyclops dying was BS, but the collective rabble of a couple hundred internet fans isn't going to do squat unless any one of us is carrying a hundred mil in his or her back pocket.

Okay, well we all agree on a few things but the main thing is this: Cyclops dying was BS- that we all agree upon on.

Absolutely agreed. There will always be a debate on who's to blame, but we shouldn't waste our time on that...X3 has passed..it's over.

All Kinberg and Penn had to do was be honest from the start. Instead they sent out lies, empty promises, and 100% hype. "Cyclops fans will not be disappointed".

That right there is a lie told by them. So no, they don't get any sympathy from me.

Oh hey man, you're abo****ely right! Cyclops fans won't be disappointed? Well sure, we got to see Cyclops. I guess. We certainly got to see him. No I'm not disappointed, I am royally. ticked. off. It's true then, that those publicity shots of him in uniform and standing with the rest of his team next to the Golden Gate bridge were there to throw us off (no pun intended). Empty promises and lies is right.

That, I won't forgive. Why even bother to reveal those publicity shots of him in uniform and not have him at the battle in the movie? what a waste. but again, its about marketing and thats what fox wasted half their budget on than making a really epic movie of what it should have been.

It's passed yeah, but as long as enough people keep the momentum going, it won't be over. And we don't have to accept it. Already there are far superior stories and even 2 novels published as alternates to X3 with far better character development, situations, and drama. You don't have to sit idle and accept what they throw at you. That at least helps give some comfort, does it not?

Yes. but with one slight exception. We prefer to think of it not as Cyclops' death, but Cyclops' "death" since it was only implied and assumed but not confirmed or stated. That subtle difference can mean a big difference later, one that we're most eagerly looking forward to :)

Funny, isn't it? They spent almost enough money on marketting and hype to make a movie with. It makes you wonder how insecure they were if they went to that much trouble just to get the general public, their best friends, grandmothers, and kitchen sink to see their movie

I alway thought it was the writers to blame for killing Cyclops off and Fox...If they writers were smart they would keep cyclops scene in begining and make him leave..then Don't introduce pheonix at all...Save her for another movie X4...and stick to the cure story line....simple as that...X3 wouldn't be the most hated X-men movie in the franchise

Yeah that's what I said too. If you cared that much about Marsden's scheduling conflicts, then save the Phoenix storyline for another movie. It's a convenient plot device. Jean's in her lake cocoon and won't be going anywhere. Make better use of Marsden's available time than to show a quick scene of Cyclops implying his death. Here's what I'd do:

Show Cyclops needing time off from the X-Men. troubled by those crazy visions and nightmares of Jean, he packs up and heads out to spend some time in the family cabin in Alaska. There. That's it. He's effectively removed from the rest of the plot, but not "dead". Use Famke to make flashback scenes involving Jean. Maybe have the rest of the cast recount their favorite Jean moments or how they miss her and film those in.
The Cure itself could be enough of a plot to merit its own movie. Certainly the morals and conflict is there. Throwing Phoenix on top of it messed it up. not only were the two plotlines fighting with each other but they were completely blown out of proportion. If Dark Phoenix was as dangerous as she was made out to be, then the X-Men could have said screw the Cure, let Magneto have the bald spoon kid from the Matrix, we have a bigger problem out there right now. Besides, what did Magneto gain from hiring Jean as one of his henchmen? Nothing. She certainly didn't contribute to his cause or to the battle. All he got out of it was one seriously deranged woman going berzerk and blowing everything up in the end. But back to my idea...
Towards the end of the film as one of its last scenes, show a scene of a ghostly figure of a woman swimming among the waters of ALkali Lake, then slowly rising and walking about its surface, looking for something. Then show a scene of Scott asleep in bed at his cabin, books and things tossed about the place, clutching the phoenix pendant that Jean wore in X2. Something ghostly leans down over him, looks at him, and gently kisses him, easing his troubled sleep and tucks him in.

And then save the actual resurrection for X4. Give hints like these that the good stuff is on its way, make sure the cast members won't have conflicts, and the audience will get a movie they'll stampede to the theatres to want to see.

Well it worked. They got their one trick pony. :down :o

Something else I don't get. Why are they so obsessed with ending things?
X3: The Last Stand. The Final One. The Big End. No More. Dead End. Caput.

Did we make them mad or something? Do they not want to play with us anymore? Why are they so quick to kill off or dead-end most of the cast and run the plots into a wall? What's wrong with keeping things open and making more movies? Do they not like making movies?

I kept asking that and what I got is: Tom Rothman hated x-men from day 1.
Still makes no sense... I guess it's just one of those things we'll find out in "true hollywood stories" when a bunch of old people from Fox reminisce.

Then you end up in a vicious circle. If he hates it why did they snatch up the rights from Marvel? Answer: land-grab. Result: "You people like that character, don't you? watch us turn her evil. You love that character over there? watch him die, bwahahahaha"

It's such a shame. You have a great cast who enjoyed what they were doing and most probably won't get a chance to do more. I thought that making more movies was a good thing. Especially if you do it well and they make money, but this obsession with not making more ticks me off. They starved the fans for material and fed them rotten apples. Then you watch X1 and X2 and you feel sad, not only because the characters are done better and the plots work and because they're onto something good, but also because you have this bad feeling down inside that this is all there is, that there probably won't be anymore.

[sigh]

well if I had time, I would have made it look like he had his hand on one of her breasts. but needless to say...i don't think thats needed. Save that for an erotic scene in Dod's Fan fic/script.

Maybe those publicity shots of him in uniform will be used again in X4.........in case James has *schedule conflicts* again? or cheating those pissed Cyclops fans of their money for X4 tickets?

It should be considered as a crime for idiot filmmakers (and writers) messing up with famous comic/novel characters..........see what will happen if WB used Harry Potter as solo leading man and killed off Hermione and Ron.

Excellent analogy! Though if FOX's thinking is prevalent you'd end up with a Hormione or Snape "spinoff"

Like I said before, the Phoenix saga just like other chars has elements which are fundamental to the story and therefore sacred. If you mess them up, you mess up the story. Just as Prof X is bald and in a wheelchair, so does Scott have a visor, Jean red hair, and Wolverine claws. If you take that away, it's no longer X-Men. And for that same reason, so is the relationship between Scott and Jean, fundamental to the Phoenix saga.
A good analogy would be Romeo and Juliet. Except in FOX's version, Juliet kills Romeo during the balcony scene (backstabs him while they're kissing cause he's a Capulet after all), and afterwards Mercutio steps up to the plate to take Romeo's place and kills Jean but himself survives.

Or better yet, do a Hormione spillover.

Here's what I think is going to happen. For X4, you'd see a Gambit teaser poster wearing his uniform. And then later in the movie find out that it's just a poster that a char manipped on their computer screen

They just try to off any possible charming male X-Men so there won't be any diversion from Wolverine? Is he that pathetic?

I kinda disagree a little. There are far more people disgruntled about this film than the last. What would need to happen is that everyone collectively make the decision that we all not watch the next if Cyke is not brought back and done justice. I haven't even watched x3 and made that decision after watching x2, that if cyke was not given justice, I would not pay. And what an injustice. We can all argue and get upset, but if we continue to support it by paying at the box office, we deserve whatever they give us.
