How? You have people complaining about the fact that Transformers is dumb, and Jackass is not? Transformers isn't supposed to be a "serious" film by way of political sci-fi drama. This isn't Alien. It has elements of drama and comedy and action. Why would the comedy aspects of Transformers be considered dumb but the comedy aspects of Jackass hilarious? INDEED.

Moreover, I honestly can't imagine sitting through Battle LA at this point. I never saw it mainly because I knew I'd spend the whole time waiting for Optimus to fly in and twirl around. But again, there are many that enjoyed it sans autobots.

Now Battle For LA I despised. DOTM is far superior in terms of epicness and Military vs Aliens.

Think of it this way, do people go to Transformer movies for the humor or see robots beat the crap out of each other? If they made all the Transformer trailers focus on the "funny" parts who would be hyped for that.
It's annoying that Bay makes us sit through an hour of him trying to inject humor that serves no purpose. His movies could easily be under two hours if he made a more straight forward action movie.

Ridiculous. I want to know what makes a person an "avergae moviegoer"?
People who don't spend all their time on the net? Don't most people spend all their time on the net? Aren't we all "average moviegoers"? People get thrown into this lump sum of a group but what does it actually mean and who does it apply to?People may not be die-hard Transformers fans but that doesn't mean they can't pick a good movie from a bad one, depending on their tastes. And tastes vary. People know what they like. Doesn't mean they should be thrown into this group of brainless drones. That's the kind of studio talk fanboys hate. And yet, they apply it to everyone else who isn't a fanboy.

And why does Transformers get ridiculed for being "dumb" all the time? Was Green Lantern not dumb? Was Thor not dumb? That movie had probably the most annoying human characters in a superhero flick in a long time (and one being an Oscar winning actress GO FIGURE). More annoying since they were trying to be taken seriously as opposed to the comic-relief characters in Transformers who are purposely writen to be odd-ball goofs.

And why can't Transformers be given a 10? I gave it an 8. It could have been a 10 had it not been for the gigantic runtime and few scenes here and there that bothered me. But overall they have no barring on the quality of the film as a whole. I hate Big Momma's House btw, and some of my favorite films of all time are heave thought-provoking dramas. Is that better for the elitist army of movie snobs who can't appreciate things for what they are? Can I be cool now?

Had I've been interviewed I probably would have acted the same way. I also find it very telling how all this time fans ***** and complain about Prime not having a trailer. Now he has a trailer and all you hear is "LAZER BEEK SPEEEKS??!!".

Absolutely ridiculous.

u missed my point entirely... it was simply that people say critics are basing this too harshly (imo they're not, they have perfectly valid complains) but at the same time theres people on the opposite side of the scale which are calling this the best movie of the year...

now whats more damaging to future sequels...criticism or praise for the mediocre(putting it nicely)? Cause bay is only listening to the praise and clearly not reading or giving a damn bout how to fix his mistakes

in bays mind its "if it aint bombed dont fix it" lol

At this point, 3 movies in and a **** load of revenue after, I'd say both.

That's not a really apt comparison because they're different movies. Unless your comparing the humor in each movies. Bay's humor is so lazy though at least people of Jackass are creative with what they do. I personally can only like Jackass for short periods; after too long it just gets tedious and annoying for me.
Of course the comedy in Jackass is a bit more natural, it's friends hanging out with each other. The comedy might not be to your taste but I don't think that makes it "lazy". John Turturro, Julie White and Alan Tudyk are talented and funny. They made me smile. EVEN IN A BAY FILM, IT'S CRAZY, HUH?!

Talented, funny people can still be unfunny in certain movies, but that's certainly not the case for me in this series.

^I'm not argue with BO. My point is that people who complain about the humor in the movie or plot/characters etc. are completely entitled too. Yes this is the 3rd movie in the franchise but that still doesn't excuse it from the same type of criticism.

yea but jackass is supposed to be silly
Transformers is supposed to be serious
big difference.

Since when? The first movie established the tone of the series.....it had it's serious moments, but it was never supposed to be taken seriously. It was never, ever, ever, ever supposed to be this space drama...it was a movie about a boy and his car. And then alien robots show up, and there's action. It had this light hearted tone throughout, and never took itself too serious.

The second one....well, we all know.

This one was the only serious entry in the series...and was really only serious for the last hour, when **** actually got real. More realer then what Martin Lawrence stated.

But even then...it had to give you some relax time. It worked for me for the most part...some moments actually affected me, and then after that, goofy dumb comedy. It gave me a few seconds to relax.

I have no problem with that, humor in movies are entirely subjective. I personally hate Bay's humor.

He improved greatly over Revenge of the Fallen, did he not?
If Bay ever comes back for a 4th film (which 5 or 10 years from now I think will happen), and he offered us another Transformers movie just as good as DOTM then I'd be very pleased. The humour is still in this film, as we all know, but watching it (probably except for the toilet scene) I couldn't help but feel how toned down it was from the previous 2. I thought it worked out great.

But do you know what that means? Regardless of how little or less extravagant the comic-relief is, Bay intentionally still puts it in there. That's just what he likes. No amount of *****ing is going to stop that. It's evident that's his stamp. He loves his toilet humour.

Doesn't matter what the movie sells but rather what the movie is.
critics don't get paid to critique movie trailers. I go to jackass to be entertained, same as TF, it just so happens that one is called stupid while the other fun.

2hr or straight dramatic action might put some people off, humor in theory makes for a better time. And it's what fans of this series actually respond well too. People like humor. They just don't like bay humor, some on principle some on taste. For what it's worth I like it most of the time. Especially in the first. I really didn't like it in the new one, but this is coming from a person that never laughed once in the hangover and the latter apatow films.

Only time I felt the humor actually got in the way of the serious tone in DOTM was when.

Sentinel betrayed the autobots, killed Ironhide, then we cut to a bs scene with Sams parents. Sam should have just told them "You guys need to get the **** outta here now". It took him 5 min to tell them they needed to leave to be safe. That scene seemed misplaced.

its not a question of bad jokes... its these ridiculously psychotic characters that just dont belong in this epic movie that bay is trying make.

its almost as if he's trying to incorporate sam raimi's type of characters but really failing to grasp that they just dont work in the world he's presenting.

I agree and disagree....that scene was ****ing depressing for me, for a second... I couldnt help but yell NO! So...even goofy parents gave me room to breath.

If it was straight action, it would be too dry and boring like Terminator Salvation. Humor is needed. Even if it sucks.

A lot of the humor was once again forced. Which was one of my main annoyances. And the characters and their stereotyping that Bay seems to love and play off off for laughs, but it's annoying as ****.

I mean Ken Jeong. God. So uneccessary. His scenes were funny and would have been funnier if they were in the context of another film, but he or the jokes don't belong in a Transformers film. The stall stuff. Funny as it was, I had the same thoughts as I did on TF2? "Wait, this is a Transformers movie isn't it?"

I didn't have a problem with the humor in TF1 at all. Maybe because they worked and didn't get out of line with the jokes. It's Bay humor, but it wasn't obnoxious.

You have to understand too, it's also for kids. Bay talks about it in the commentaries all the time. He doesnt make these flicks for adults...he makes them for children, or for people who can watch it, and bring out the child within....

Kids love stupid **** like that. "Hahah...the robot pooted!" It's childish. But kids eat that **** up.

Plus, it works for them after a scene of decepticons EVAPORATING INNOCENT HUMAN BEINGS. It's a lot less tramatic. :hehe:

They are both the same type of humor but Jackass is at least inventive by setting up the most over the top stunts. Bay can't do that in Transformers movie, he just has dogs humping dogs or robots humping hot girls.

The Pros:

All the robot action and all the action in general. My mouth dropped in places. I mean GODDAMN BADASS action. Bay knows how to shoot an action scene. We all know this.

Rose Huntington Whitley is a fine replacement and surprisingly isn't a bad actress. I actually bought her romance with Sam and her being Fox's replacement. It did feel like "the one" for Sam. Mikaela seemed more like a younger man's dream for me that he got lucky with.

Optimus deserves a whole pro because he was badass

The Cons:

Though the humor isn't as extreme as the second, there's still tons of uneccessary humor. See my above post.

The space plot is a fine one. But it gets lost in the shuffle of the cluster**** of the structure of this film.

Sam's personal story was boring. I didn't give a **** about him looking for work and not being able to work. All those interview moments were a huge time waster. This is the type of human stuff that you should stay away from in a Transformers film.

It was too damn long. The finale, while exciting, felt like an hour.

I didn't dig two of the twists all that much.

it honestly seems like a case of producers trying to take the best of both worlds.

The action in TF pretty much craps on everything this year including the action in inception. The humor when done right by bays standards is actually really good. (Bad boys made me spill my two drinks). And the comedy in these movies seems in the vain of the Hangover minus the premise.

instead of mixing the genres in a subtle way, it seems like they try to smash the genres together in an extreme way and it get's this extremely mixed yet predictable reactions.

over the top stunts you say...
