That's the problem, they're is plenty of tension on Shia's part because it is shia's story. It's unfortunate but that's the reality. Transformers represents a lot of thematic logistical errors as an adaption.

1. There's never been a studio produced live action film in which humans weren't prominent and there probably never will be. Sucks for fans but this will always be a human centered story no matter who directs. Don't think for one second that Spielberg wasn't going to make it about "a boy and his car." And with Berg producing it wouldn't matter if Cameron himself did it. = sucks for fan boys.

If the human characters are well written and compelling I have no problem with them being prominent - problem is...Bay's human characters are stupid and annoying.

Sam spends the entire film whining and *****ing. "Waaah! I cant get a job!" "Waaaah! My super-hot successful girlfriend supports me in everything I do! waaah!"

Yes but the people that clamor to an awful cartoon and say that a live action movie is butchering those characters in reference to a paper thin cheesy kiddy cartoon show 30 years ago need to be slapped. If anyone told me that Sam Raimi ruined Spider-Man because he didn't follow more closely Spider-Man, the animated series, I would slap them.

ok lets try this...why dont you tell me who and what personality did these characters have in this m.bay triliogy

starscream
soundwave
ironhide
jazz
acree
sideswipe
shockwave
barricade
devastator
megs

now lets swich over to any cartoon or comic book and answer the same question...

Barricade is not the ****ing main character of the movie. He is a tertiary character.

You despise X-Men because Banshee wasn't Irish? Mathew Vaughn ruined X-Men because Banshee wasn't Irish? Did that do it for you? Because he wasn't a 30 year old Irish man? Huh?

I'm extremely shocked Bay made
[blackout]Sentinel Prime the main villain, He was more menacing and ruthless than even Megatron or The Fallen. I was shocked when he killed Ironhide in cold blood without remorse. And how he betrayed the very principles he installed into Optimus as his former mentor and friend. That final Battle in Chicago between him and Optimus was a very emotional one.[/blackout]
I gotta give major kudos to Leonard Nimoy who was just outstanding in his voice portrayal as Sentinel Prime not to mention his wrapped version line of Spock's classic quote "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

Sentinel Prime : "The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many."

Nimoy return to Transformers, Their were times in the film I swear I thought [blackout]Sentinel was Galvatron. Because he was just evil incarnate[/blackout] .

I doubt that.

actually no he doesn't.

also although the TF cartoon movie wasnt to good. It has some great diaolgue in there

Starscream: Who disrupts my coronation?
Galvatron: "Coronation", Starscream? This is bad comedy.
Starscream: Megatron? Is that you?
Galvatron: Here's a hint!
[Galvatron transforms and shoots Starscream. Starscream crackles and falls to dust]
Galvatron: Will anyone else attempt to fill his shoes?
Rumble: What did he say his name was?
Galvatron: Galvatron!

Prime to megatron "

Megatron: [feigning defeat as he reaches for a laser gun] No more, Optimus Prime! Grant me mercy, I beg of you!
Optimus Prime: You, who are without mercy, now plead for it? I thought you were made of sterner stuff!

Megatron: Why throw away your life so recklessly?
Optimus Prime: That's a question you should ask YOURSELF, Megatron.

Unicron: I have summoned you here for a purpose.
Megatron: Nobody summons Megatron.
Unicron: Then it pleases me to be the first.

Galvatron: I'll rip open Ultra Magnus, and every other Autobot, until the Matrix has been destroyed!

i mean you dont get any of this kind of stuff in these live action films...

The cartoon wasn't high art but it wasn't awful either.

But you're glad Sam Raimi followed the comics. You are aware there are hundreds of G1 comic books to follow?

is this directed towards me? And because a robot is not the main character doesnt mean they can't have a personality....if this was directed towards me at all..

it's great that your willing to accept that about your nostalgia, but when the same can and will be said about the film you're quick to point out that it doesn't have to be.

Spiderman wasn't made famous/relevant for it's fun saturday morning toy commercial. Guess what was.

Don't forget: "Megtron must be stopped, no matter the cost" or "One shall stand and one shall fall".

Both are classics.

I also like "Soundwave superior, Constructicons inferior", "I got better things to do today than die" and "I still function".

hell yea, and that's a 80s cheesy cartoon-movie ,and there's better writing in that compared to what i have seen so far with these live-action films...(have not seen 3 yet)

There are elements explored in the G1 cartoon and comics that would be great building blocks for a quality sci-fi flick. Bayformers is just loud offensive monster truck noise.

That's a silly reason to ignore the comics. Should Nolan ignore Batman comics because Batman gained popularity through ADam West?

First post here.

I really enjoyed it, I'll give my in depth thoughts later on.
I just posted this because I had a quick question or two.
1. Why was shockwave at Chernobyl?
2. Why did he try to steal the Ark fuel cell? Wouldn't that disrupt their plan?
Thanks!

Yes, yes it was.

Oh the early Spider-Man comics aren't that great either. I am in no way a purist because if a lot of the stuff from the comics made it into the movies, they would be awful. I have not read the Transformer comics so I won't pretend to know if they are amazing or awful. I haven't read many comics at all. I am fine with creative decisions as long as they don't butcher the main characters. I can see that they are two entirely different mediums.

I am just tired of all this fanboy purist BS. The problem with these movies aren't because Jazz didn't have a larger role. The problem with these movies are structural problems with the writing. Bay is a very good action director. I would even say he is one of the best. His movies look fantastic. The problem he has is picking terrible writers and not knowing that the script he is shooting isn't as good as it could be. He looks like a bro so I would bet when he is reading the day's shooting script and he reads those one liners, they probably sound awesome to him in his head. Maybe it's the smell of pyrotechnics or cars flying everywhere that gets his adrenaline going and he doesn't realize that maybe two dogs humping twice on camera wasn't the best idea ever.

That's my point, you seem to find these so called elements in that cartoon show, but you have full on blinders on when not only are many of these elements present in said film(including those silly lines you seem to love) but a lot even more human themes are brought to the forefront.

I'll be the first to admit the films are silly and miss out on a crap load of potential, but I'll follow that up by saying, just like the source material.

Adam West isn't responsible for Batman, he was just a later incarnation.
Nolan should look to the original work just as the TF films should and do.
Just like Raimi did.

Just saw this last night. I got a free pass from a friend who won some tickets over the radio. And I also have tickets for a screening for friday night. First I would like to say it is NOT as bad as ROTF in any shape or form. The humor was a litte corny in some places and they could have cut some of the human plot from the movie. Also I didn't like Mirage was called Dino and Wheeljack was Que. The story was fine in my book better than the story in the previous two movies. It has some plot issues but I am willing to look past it because its not as awful as ROTF.

I actually thought Optimus was pretty beastly lol. I mean he was not begging for his life he was begging Sentinel not to carry out his plan with the space bridge. I mean look at it from Optimus perspective. His mentor totally betrays him and plans to destroy a plan he calls home after cybertron. How is he a wuss if he damm near kills all the major decepticons Shockwave, Sentinel and Megatron.

Rosie was fine not great but okay. She seems more comfortable in role unlike Megan who seem awkward the entire time. Sams parents weren't as annoying thank god. The Mearing lady and Simmons backstory or whatever was not needed. Wheelie and Brains are okay they are not awful like the twins.

Overall, I liked the movie the last hour is AWESOME. Does the movie have flaws? Yes, Could they focused a little bit more on the bots? Yes, but I was fine with the time we got with them. My only other small gripe is the ending. I actually prefered the novel ending over the movie's ending. I give this movie I soild 7.5 out of 10.

enjoyed the film a lot, saw it in IMAX 3D, was pretty epic. Cinema was PACKED, not a spare seat.
Sometimes couldnt tell which Transformer was getting destroyed, however when Ironhide did was clear people around me where gutted

.

wait and pardon me for jumping in, but how did the source material miss out on anything when it was because of the source material that made the franchise popular, and made hollywood take notice to do a live action film:huh:

So did anybody think the thing to happen to Sentinal was kind of lame? I mean I didn't see it coming, but it seemed forced to me. It didn't seem natural. Maybe if I give it more thought, but when it happened, I kind of thought it was weak. At that point really, the movie was pretty much a mess. Way too much stuff all at once was going on.

Could you be more pacific on what your referring too ?

HAHA was Doctor Jones too atlantic in his other post!?

He is talking about Sentinel's turn to the dark side I believe.

Toy sales?

Really!!? Really...so the mass at hollywood was like "emmm lets make a movie to help toy sales, or lets make a movie because the toy sales were so great"

not buying it....

no toys turned it into a cartoon, and comic originally from japan (i think)

everything you know and they (hollywood) know about the genre is from the cartoons, comics and toys...

you are pardoned:yay:

I said both Bayformers and G1, misses out on aspects that would make them both amazing sci-fi.
Are you going to argue that G1 is the best sci-fi it could possibly be?
I hope so.
