Official Indie Music Thread

This indie junkie tends to have that electronic flair to it. Namely Stars, Death Cab for Cutie, the RealPeople and the Postal Service.

I really enjoy the fact Stars, Metric and The Arcade Fire put a little depth and ambiguity in their lyrics. I like them thinking songs.

Anybody heard of Psapp, Blonde Redhead, Ladytron or Matisyahu?

Love me some Arcade Fire.

I have a friend who's big into Matisyahu, saw him live and loved it. I've heard some Ladytron although it's not my cup of tea.

OH hella. I was on a HUGE Arcade Fire kick last year. 8 months of Neon Bible. Funnily enough, I'm still not sick of it yet.

I can see Ladytron being... out there. For me, it's kinda like Blonde Redhead. Really abrasive at first, then a little more bearable each time.

Blonde Redhead  Ladytron :down

The mentions of The Pixies and Pavement drew me to this thread.

Anyone else big into The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Babyshambles, and so on? Been big into The Futureheads, Maximo Park, and The Last Shadow Puppets lately.

I got a Libertines album Up The Bracket when it came out I thing I've listened to it about twice I could never really get into the The Libertines.

I heard Arctic Monkeys 'From The Ritz To The Rubble' on the radio the other day I haven't heard that song in a while and I forgot how awesome it is

Love the Futureheads 'hounds of love' cover. Shadow Puppets, Maximo Park are good too.

My favourite recent indie tunes are

Patrick Wolf - Hard Times
Art Brut - Just Desserts
Passion Pit - The Reeling
Bombay Bicycle Club - Always Like This
PJ Harvey & John Parish - Black Hearted Love
The Maccabees - Love You Better/No Kind Words

I couldn't get into them at first, couldn't see what the big deal was. For whatever reason I revisited the album and was hooked. I think some of the stuff from their second album ("Can't Stand Me Now," "Don't Look Back Into the Sun") was more accessible.

Oh I'm exactly the same way. didn't see what all the fuss was before...but I'm absolutely hooked on them now.

I highly recommend the new album from It Hugs Back entitled "Inside Your Guitar". This is the British band's debut on legendary indie label 4AD and they remind me a lot of The Ladybug Transistor or some of the quieter, fuzzed-out Yo La Tengo songs from the "Painful" or "I Can Hear a Heart Beating..." albums. Really mellow, catchy, beautiful songs full of atmosphere and subtle effects.

So I'd like my ears to listen to different things...hopefully you guys have some suggestions :D

Here are some bands I like: Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket(Z), Bloc Party, Modest Mouse, The Raconteurs, The White Stripes, Foals, Interpol, The Black Keys, Beck, She Wants Revenge...among others. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance :)

^You would like Metric or Arcade Fire a lot I think.

Spoon is the best indie band, imo...."Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" was perfection...

You've got a lot of my favorites listed.

I'd suggest The National, The Flaming Lips, Arctic Monkeys, Band of Horses, and if you're into older stuff I'd throw in Joy Division and The Smiths.

Went to make a thread about obscure music and noticed this.

I have a slightly bizarre taste in music so I thought I would list some of my favourite songs.

1. Dog Days - Florence And The Machine

2. Skinny Love - Bon Iver

3. Oh My God - Ida Maria

I have decidedly bizarre taste in music (I mostly like deem female voices and big sounds lol ) so I thought I would list some of my favourite songs and bands.

Top 5 Best Songs At The Mo

1. Dog Days - Florence And The Machine

[YT]nP_jsy6Trrc[/YT]

Seriously the beauty of this song just makes me melt into joy.

2. Skinny Love - Bon Iver

[YT]UrMmr1oMPGA[/YT]

This song is kinda happy and sad at the same time. I love it

3. Oh My God - Ida Maria

[YT]naQSB1Ozyds[/YT]

A bit repetitive, but still awesome.

4. A Little Death Around The Eyes - Peter Doherty

[YT]TbwHv7EpU9A[/YT]

This song relaxes and depresses me, but I think that's just PD's voice.

5. Meddle - Little Boots

[YT]LWbxQDLIS94[/YT]

Weird (nothing like the other songs), but it makes me think of video games.

Okay so those are just some weird songs I litterally love so much it hurts. If anyone bothers to listen to these I hope you will be pleasantly surprised. When I can be bothered I'll conform and list off some brilliant musicians.

bon iver

Thanks guys...I've been listening to Arcade Fire for a bit too...but I'll make sure to take a listen to the rest of the bands listed.

today, april 18, is record store day!! get out to your record stores and buy them records! i picked up two copies of the debut 7" from the dead weather (hang you from the heavens b/w are freinds electric?), outrageous cherry's new LP 'universal malcontents', and a re-issue of the stooges 7" 1969 b/w real cool time.

Been digging Pete Doherty's solo album, although I wish the seemingly inevitable Libertines reunion would happen. The solo stuff isn't as memorable, although definitely enjoyable.
