Official JLA discussion thread - Part 3

It's not that i dont like heterosexuals Llama...
Mysti, Let me just throw something at you. Tell me if you think it's proper grounds to critique something, or if it's just bigotry.

"It's not that I don't like homosexuals. I have nothing against people who are homosexual either real or fictional. I think everyone should do whatever feels right for them and as long as its all between consenting adults I dont think any kind of sexual orientation or activity is bad or wrong. Whether someone is straight, LGBT, asexual or whatever as long as their happy that's the only thing that matters.

I'd certainly never hate someone for their sexuality. I know how that feels and its horrible.

But in fiction I just don't care about gay characters. I don't feel any emotional connection to them. I don't hate them; there are plenty of gay characters i like. But I don't really care about them. It's only the straight characters at DC who I really care what happens to them. As a straight comic book fan they're the characters that really mean something to me

And gay romances in fiction just bore me. A guy hooking up with a guy is just utterly tedious to me and I don't really care whether they fall in love or not. I have no interest in reading about gay romances at all. Straight romances in fiction are the only romances that I find interesting or care about."

Now, I absolutely understand your point of view. I really do, and I agree that there should be more characters who are gay general comicdom. But that's not a reason to dismiss everything. Straight romances are more boring that gay romances because...why? What's the difference? It's two people who love each other. This is a two-way street.

If you were dating a man who dresses a dog in a mask and cape you would need to drink too HighFivingMF :ninja:

She's now, but she originally wasn't one:

batwomanrandom01.jpg

That's a different character though

There have been two Batwoman's (Batwomen?) in the DCU just like there have been four Batgirl's :)

The silver age one Kathy Kane. She was straight and she really sucked. And she's dead thankfully. Pretty much no interest in her at all though some of the stories featuring her wrre unintentionally hillarious in their silver age insanity.

And the modern one Kate Kane who has always been and will always be a lesbian. She was created as a lesbian character and has been an openly lesbian heroine from her first appearance onwards. She's :awesome: sauce and she's my absolute favourite DC character :atp:

Then dont read about them

If you prefer reading about straight characters then do it. Doesn't make you a bad person as long as your not saying there should be no lgbt characters in comics

I want to read about lgbt characters and I want more in the DCU. I don't want there to be NO straight characters. I'm not saying that every character has to be lgbt. I'm just saying that I only care about the characters who are lgbt and I want there to be more of them in comics.

Lgbt characters are the ones I really want to read about and that I care for. Its why books like Batwoman, Birds of Prey or Stormwatch are ones i always buy

And I just want there to be more lgbt characters in more series. I don't think thats an unreasonable thing to want :)

Lies. I dealt with it.

I mean, that'd be crazy.

Batman broke your heart didn't he :ninja:

That look on Batman's face makes me think that he's gay.

The funny thing is Kathy was created to try and prove Batman wasn't gay by giving him a girlfriend. Maybe that clone of myself I sent back in time was writing lots of Superman/Batman slash fiction

But he constantly acted like the thought of having a relationship with her was more horrifying than going ten rounds with Solomon Grundy

So she wound up just making it seem even more likely that he was gay

Irony! :awesome:

Of course we all know Batman's only true love is justice :o

He looks like he's full of rage in that picture

Christian Bale levels of rage :ninja:

Sometimes, I really wish I was mystirious' psychologist.

There's some deeply hidden ****ed up **** in that brain. I know.

I just want more lgbt characters in comic books

I don't see how that's a bad thing to want more of then in comics. Lgbt characters are the characters i care about and want to read about. They're the only type of character that i truly care about

Having more lgbt characters in comic books would be a very good thing and i hope DC continues to introduce more. I'll buy any comic books they publish that feature them as those are the characters that I want to see more of and that i care about. More characters like Batwoman and Starling in the dcu will make me :)

Having more lgbt heroes in comic books is a good and positive thing and there should be an lgbt hero on the JLA

I'll start buying it again if there is

I can confirm this.

Chick couldn't even hit a ****ing note properly :o

I think HighFivingMF is right she's totally drunk in that panel :o

I'm not saying that straight romances are inferior to same sex ones and I'm sorry if thats how it sounded Compi :) It's just that I prefer reading about same sex romances personally. I think that both should be equally portrayed in fiction and should be portrayed positively  And right now there just aren't enough same sex romances or lgbt characters in comics :(

For me to really care about a fictional character or a fictional romance I personally need to feel an emotional connection something that makes me really care about them that makes me want to read about them and care about what happens in the story to them. And I only feel that emotional connection to lgbt characters. I can relate to them and i feel that connection to them. They're the kund of characters that really matter to me and are important to me as an lgbt comics fan.

I'm just saying that i personally find straight romances in fiction boring. I dont feel any emotional attachment or connection to the characters. Some guy hooks up with some girl, just doesn't intetest me to read about it. If others do enjoy reading about it thats totally fine too and I'm not saying that straight romances in fiction are awful. Just that I personally dont find them very interesting to read about

Doesn't mean the relationship is bad or badly written. It's just not a romance I care about. The only romances in fiction that I care about reading are ones like the one in Batwoman between Maggie and Kate. When I read about them together I get a heartwarming feeling and I want to see more of them together. It's a relationship I can actually relate to and one that makes me feel happy.

But I agree with you that all relationships in fiction are valid and that love is a wonderful thing no matter what the gender of the people who fall in love is. And loving relationships between both straight and lgbt couples should appear in all forms of fiction including comics :)

It's probably just because you're missing out on all the other great romances in comics, Babs & Dick, Bruce & Selina, Clark & Lois, Barry & Iris, Dinah & Ollie, Roy and his right hand......

While we get to enjoy all of them.

Those are all great romances :)

Apart from Dinah and Ollie. Ollie is the worst :o

They're just not ones that are personally very interesting to me. I can certaonly appreciate that their well written ones though. They're just not romances that i personally care about

Looking to see what new takes they will have on some old JL villains.

The Crime Syndicate

The Key

Promethius

Starro

Despero

It's already been more than 70 years since the last time he appeared so i would like to one day see the return and modern versions of this Joker rip-off

Bull's Eye!!!
Who used to be Green Arrow's arch-enemy until he sudenly disappeared

Just from that one panel I'm convinced he needs to be brought back :awesome:

I'd love to see Despero show up at some point too

Hah, I just noticed in a couple of panels in the last issue that they colored Superman's collar the same as his neck and made the belt yellow and gave him red trunks.

And once again, he gets to be a mannequin. I'd really rather Superman not be in the Justice League at all if he's not going to do or say anything.

This latest issue had the most incomprehensible art I have seen yet. I eagerly await Lees return.

Yeah. ha's art has deteriorated as of late.

The last thing I really liked from G. Ha was that Wildstorm book that he only drew one issue of with Morrison.

Was it The Authority?

Yeah. ha's art has deteriorated as of late.

Yeah it really has but I mean I couldn't even figure out what happened in the first half of the book, the story wasn't really that great either.
