Official JLA discussion thread - Part 3

Bleedingcool ran a story about RB Silva possibly teasing a new Justice League International book featuring Booster Gold, Shazam, Nightwing, Black Canary, Hawkman, Batgirl and Red Tornado.

The two things that stick out is he said he couldn't talk about it and he wrote the hashtag #justiceleagueinternational twice. More sketches in the link:

Nightwing should lead the team.

no clever gordon barbara gordon the only girl meant to be batgirl should

They should put some actual international people on the team...

Again, he doesn't have to be as strong as Superman to rock his ass. He just has to be strong enough to rock his ass. Which he is. Guy picked up a sky scrapper. Underwater. So that's like 2000 tons plus an extra godknowshowmuch due to water pressure. He's strong enough.

That skyscraper moment you are talking about happened during the Sub Diego era, I think? Prior to that and even since then I can't recall them showing him as being that strong. He doesn't have to be that strong to be interesting, or to punch Superman. As far as I know Supes doesn't weigh tons.

Aquaman is strong enough to lift a city block underwater, just because you only know of one example of that doesn't negate it.

That said, he's not as strong as Superman. Superman usually characterized as being strong enough to lift a few planets stacked on top of each other.

No one said anything about negating it, though the fact that that happened in the old dcu might do just that (just like Superman was no longer a planet juggler after Crisis on Infinite Earths and for quite a while after that). But it was inconsistent with the way the character is portrayed the vast majority of the time. When I read that issue I was like "huh?" because in all the years I'd been reading Aquaman he had not been portrayed as that strong. It's like the time Spider-Man punched a herald of Galactus out, even though the majority of the time he is shown having trouble with characters much, much less powerful.

That said, he's not as strong as Superman. Superman usually characterized as being strong enough to lift a few planets stacked on top of each other.

Yes, they've returned him to the too strong Pre-Crisis levels over the years...

Exactly.

It happened. Apparently he's still that strong cuz he just knocked Superman out therefore it makes sense. Deal with it.

Except he didn't. He punched him.

And deal with what, exactly? If you mean the city block thing...see my previous post. If you mean the fact that Aquaman punched Superman...there's nothing to deal with.

I think you just need to stop talking, Rock.

Luckily what you think is of no consequence.

I think I'm gonna go drop the Browns off at the Superbowl. :o

So you've been reading Aquaman for year but never seen him that strong? Are you sure you have been reading Aquaman RockSp?

Heh, I should be asking you that since you're the one who thinks Aquaman is and always has been as strong as a Kryptonian.

Nobody said he's as strong as a Kryptonian. He's strong enough to hurt a Kryptonian. Aquaman can send Superman flying, but Superman can run his fist through Aquaman's face. But he wouldn't do that.

 I entered this conversation because someone did say that.

You're not saying anything I haven't already said or agreed with.

I then quoted Anubis and clarified what I should have said.

My post was in response to you saying "in all the years I'd been reading Aquaman he had not been portrayed as that strong.".

The character has been strong enough to hurt Superman for YEARS so I'm curious what comics you have been reading.

I was talking about the lifting a city block thing, not Superman. I never said Aquaman punching Superman was a problem.

Luckily what you think is of no consequence.
And I was trying to be nice...

Listen, you're coming off as a petty little fanboy who senselessly feels spurned because his favorite hero was given a little love tap in a comic book.

We've (or at least I've) been agreeing with you about Superman the entire time. But you just can't bring yourself to give Aquaman credit for anything now because, quite obviously, you still feel slighted over a punch in an issue that pretty much no one will even remember a year from now. But yes, please continue your petty ranting.

Hooooooo boy :whatever::doh::whatever::doh:

I haven't read a Superman ongoing since the early Byrne era. I checked out the first few issues of Morrison's Action Comics, but haven't stuck with it. I am in no way a Superman fanboy and nothing I've said should lead anyone (with half a brain) to believe that. I've said more than once in this very thread that Superman is too strong. I don't hate Superman or any other fictional comic book character, I just haven't been interested in Superman (as a solo character) for a long time.

On the other hand, I have been reading Aquaman since the short lived 90's series before Peter David's run (can't remember the writer off hand). There are some gaps (I quit during Larsen's run) in my collection but overall I am an Aquaman fan.

Just because I like Aquaman doesn't mean I can't state that he isn't as strong as Superman/a Kryptonian or that I think the city block lifting thing is an anamoly based on all the Aquaman comics I've read over the years.

Me stating those things doesn't mean I'm upset he punched Superman. As I said earlier:

He doesn't have to be that strong to be interesting, or to punch Superman. As far as I know Supes doesn't weigh tons.

"that strong" = able to lift a city block. In other words his superstrengh as portrayed the majority of the time is sufficient enough to justify the punch in the latest issue of JLA.

But yes, please continue your petty pointless insults and putting words in people's mouths.
