I seriously doubt he is officially attached to the project any more. He probably keeps saying it in hopes if it did get off the ground any time soon that he might be offered back. But hey i dont know how things are going behind closed doors are wb.

Miller should focus on the Flash movie IMO. He could shepherd that into getting made while GL is in production. That way the key franchises for JLA will be in a better position to setup the eventual JLA movie.

gregory Noveck on the DC comics movies.
One recent attempt that didn't make the finish line -- at least not yet -- was a Justice League movie. Director George Miller in 2007 was moving ahead for a 2009 tentpole with a script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney. He had either tested for or cast roles and was looking to shoot Justice League in Australia before the film derailed.

"It was wonderful and tragic at the same time," Noveck said of working on that project. "On the one hand, you get to work on what would be a serious, big, honest Justice League movie. As a fan, as someone who loves this stuff and grew up watching Super Friends and reading Man of Steel and Crisis, it would be like, 'Wow, I'm sitting here and they're doing computer models and all this stuff.' And to be really involved with the script process on that one with the writers, that was a phenomenal experience.

"Like any project in Hollywood
, sometimes development can get frustrating. We got to a point where the best draft of the script came in just as we were deciding that maybe this wasn't the best strategy to do with these characters.

"But that script still exists. The studio still wants to make a Justice League movie, I believe. You'd have to ask them. I don't want to go on record saying that they're going to make it. What I will say is that they're committed to these characters and they're committed to this universe. They want to see Batman, they want to see Superman, they want to see Wonder Woman and everybody else.

"The question becomes how and when and what's the best way to portray them. And it's a different answer every time. Because every time you look at the material and look at the state of what's going on, you get different answers. Sometimes it's, 'That script came in awesome. Let's do that one." Sometimes it's, "Can we get that filmmaker? We can't? Do we wait?'"

I wonder if Novek watched JLU. That's much closer to the concept then Super Friends.

He said he grew up watching Superfriends, not that's what he wants to do with the property.

I just hope these solo films aren't one big setup... you look at what IM2 is doing... getting all these characters... from Fury, to BW, and maybe even Hawkeye in there... it will detract from an Iron Man film. That's what I DON'T want a Superman reboot or GL becoming. If they need a prelude film it should be a WF type flick... but even then I would wait until I flesh the rest of my characters out before I make JLA. I hate that Marvel is doing everything in a three year span... although it will work a lot better than DC since Marvel movies are more realistic and so many have or will have came out already that people are ready for a crossover. Can't say the same for DC.

They're still persisting with this shtick?

Just confirming WB is open to doing crossovers in the future if they can make these other characters successful... which is obvious to begin with.

They don't need to copy that little detail like IM is doing.

Bit early to say they'll do that. Their plan may be slightly different in execution.

DC's actually more prepared with that since JL includes two of their heavy-weights, unlike Marvel. All they need is to get Superman on track and they're almost half way there.

DC movies don't have to be entirely realistic to work, though that isn't to say they can't find some execution to bring in some realism. They can even use Marvel movies and Nolan's Batman for inspiration with this, depending on the situation.

WW's going to be the toughest nut to crack since she's magic based. That's why its important they get people in charge who understand the property and have good vision for it. Things which it lacks right now. Though once she's properly set up in a solo movie they can tone the magic stuff down for JLA.

By the time they get JL going again, new blood will be attached to helm the project, most likely. I am still not opposed to the idea of this movie if it were to happen now, although hopefully we would get a different cast.

Common cameoing in GL as John or what? Haven't read that lick but just curious?

While you may argue why Miller might benefit from letting people think he's still directing Justice League somewhat, you couldn't argue that Novec doesn't really have any reason to lie about it. Though I still think Justice League was doomed to non existance as soon as Warner bought DC.

I think a Justice League movie should revolve around the death of Superman plot with Doomsday kicking all of their asses.

I thought the rumor was that the script was horrible, for unspecified reasons, wich made it's horribleness even more terrible;)
No, there's only one person who said that said that the script was horrible. and it was Steve from SaveSuperman.com, the guy who according to his timetable now should be on the set of his Superman trilogy starring Tom Welling and produced by Steven Spielberg (who will not have the final cut).
The Justice League script was in the "black list" of the best scripts of 2007 and was reportedly very faithful to a couple of storylines from the books.

I think superman and batman should take a backseat and allow characters who don't have their own successful movie franchises time to shine. (Plus Superman is boring) Maybe it could be set in the period after superman is dead, and the movie starts with his death.

well wasnt their talks that when the wga strike happened and miller started messing around with the script wb wasnt really happy with the changes?

I don't remember myself but didn't Miller add new characters and what not? Maybe the script became more campier and kid friendly? Not so sure myself.

He was cast as John Stewart before the movie ended up in development hell.

I am saying is he still set to appear in GL solo movie as John... since that is obviously no longer in developmental hell.
