Well for GL it would be dependent on whether it can become a profitable movie or not.

Of course.

But if it succeeds it doesn't need to end with their third films. Serial comic franchises can continue for decades thanks to their huge build-in mythos. They could make 15 movies just on John, Guy, Kyle, Alan and Hal in the lead switching every third film and still have more material to use in other films and spin-offs.

Batman, The Hobbit, 3 Harry Potters, they really don't have to worry about another DC property for a few years.

Those are all short term though. With the exception of Batman, you can keep making Batman forever.

But the Hobbit will be a single film, followed by another Lord of the Rings movie, and that's it. Harry Potter has only three movies left and that's it.

Warner Bros. really needs to step up on developing its properties in film that it can continue making films on infinitely: DC Comics, Looney Tunes, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hanna-Barbera, etc.

HH:

What's the next Lord of the Rings movie? This is the first I've heard of it.

WB could make several films adapting the Silmarillion anthology. It's not infinite like Batman but LOTR is far from tapped creatively.

Or better yet a series of mini-series on the premium channels like HBO or co-produce it with Sci-Fi.

Peter Jackson to Produce The Hobbit and Sequel!
Source: New Line Cinema, MGM
December 18, 2007

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson; Harry Sloan, Chairman and CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM); Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs of New Line Cinema have jointly announced today that they have entered into the following series of agreements:

* MGM and New Line will co-finance and co-distribute two films, The Hobbit and a sequel to The Hobbit. New Line will distribute in North America and MGM will distribute internationally.

* Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will serve as Executive Producers of two films based on The Hobbit. New Line will manage the production of the films, which will be shot simultaneously.

Obviously, this was before New Line was folded into WB and Del Toro was announced as the director.

Flawless:

Thanks.

I knew he was doing the Hobbit, but didn't realize he was doing a sequel.

It will be interesting to see what he does with it.

Like I said, they don't need to worry about making any comic adaptation any time soon with the Potter films and the Hobbit movies, and as you've pointed out, they have more than enough potential franchises up their sleeve not counting other licences between now and then that WB could obtain, DC characters are but one part of their plan for the next 10 years, but things can change. What I was trying to point out was that people seem to think WB tentpoles begin and end with superhero films.

Showtime. To paraphrase a great man:

TEAR DOWN THIS FORUM!!!!

Also strikes rush things into production. That's the way of things. GI JOE got greenlit very quickly once the strike started because Paramount desperately needed another big release for 2009. Now they have Transformers 2 AND GI JOE all in the same summer. That's huge for them, not only that they gave GI JOE a fatter budget than the first Transformers.

Dragon Ball, same thing. Fox rushed it into production during the strike. They need more stuff for 09.

I properly predicted during the strike and suggested that WB just might push Harry Potter to 09. The reason, people were SO sure that Justice League was still happening because without it they would have none of the big releases they needed for 09. And no of course they wouldn't do Harry Potter 6 in summer 09. Of course they wouldn't. Hate to toot my own horn, but . . . that's exactly what they did.

And it's a smart move. Harry Potter has proven that it can play over the summer season as well as holiday season. It does strengthen what's looking like an overall weaker summer next year. WB is going to get as much mileage out of this franchise as possible. You know they don't want to it to end. That's why they are turning it into 8 movies instead of 7. WB desperately needs sure fire hits like Harry Potter in such a risky industry.

Yes! Finally closure to Millers rush job JLM film! Please move this forum to the DC Comics Film forum thanks.

Great move to release Potter to summer time and have it team with Terminator. I believe there is one other big movie they are releasing next summer with those two right?

Now WB's can set up for GL in maybe March and then MOS on July 4th weekend and Clash maybe Labor Day weekend 2010.

Whos to say MOS is any were near to be happening any time soon or even at all. With all the recent talk looks like gl and ga will be likely to be happening for 2010, nolan bat3(hopefully) around 2011. MOS is in no shape of happening any time with no script, writers, greenlit, etc.... And we dont even know if wb wants to go in that direction again for supes.

Its time for Superman to sit out for a while anyway.

He's had a good run in film.

Without him it could give the lesser properties like GL attention from WB they sorely need.

Superman will come back eventually. I doubt the next movie will be a sequel to SR.

yea with alot of people not liking Sr, to the ones that did like it, and it not making what wb wanted and even now wb/dc people or former dc people coming out saying it wasnt that great of a film, and all the talk last few months of wb looking at reboot ideas. They probably dont thing singer attached to supes is a viable series. And they probably do want to wait to first come nov to see how much money they owe the siegel family on all superman copyright since 99 through now. Then if its alot of money they probably dont want to do more films for awhile so they dont have to pay the sigels more and all that. My bet if they do come out and officially say or singer finally comes out and say MOS isnt happening we will probably not see superman on screen again in a solo film to 2013/past so they are totally through all the copyright issues and all that.

VileOne and DarkKnight, shut the **** up.
I would agree. When you work in SHH! then YOU get to call the shots on what forums there are or aren't. Just because you personally disagree with the existance of the movie doesn't mean that it can be shut down on your whim. If official word comes down(and I mean with actual solid talk and no ambiguity) that this movie is of moving forward, then fine, close it. In the meantime, when the movie STILL HASN"T BEEN OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED TO BE SHUT DOWN, there is no point in insisting on it.

There's also no point in allowing your feelings to be hurt anytime someone suggests closing the forum.

Yea us regular posters cant do anything if/when jla section is closed. Its all up to the head mods of the section and what they think is best. If it is closed any time soon i would miss this section and all the threads and stuff we talked about.

LOL, I think protocida is gonna cry if this forum gets closed. The guy seems to create a useless thread a day in this section for a movie that seems to be virtually dead (Miller incarnation that is).

FlawlessVictory, Shut the **** up you too.

I Don't understand why people that don't like something insist and be part of it only to bash. It's you way to compensate something or what?

Wow. So much for free speech...Are you in any way related to Superman-Prime? :hehe: :whatever:

Why shut it down? They said a Justice League movie should be made within ten years.

:lmao:

I can't help that your crappy Miller JLA film looks like its not happening. And if I want to bash, I will bash all I want. Deal with it.

LOL, I thought the same thing.

Well I haven't seen anything to say this movie has been officially greenlit either. If anything there is more information that says the complete opposite. So I don't why some of you absolutely NEED to have this forum remain when the obvious cancellation of Millers version of the JLA has just occurred.

Sorry and I don't have to shut the **** up when I'm glad as heck that WB's seems to have finally woke up and realized the path that needs to be taken in regards to the DC superhero characters being on film!

You have recieved 2 infractions for this behavior....do not continue it or you will not be here too much longer.

I agree to a certain extent. However, I have far more confidence in a MOS happening in 2010. The reason is WB's will be looking for another tent pole film for that particular summer to go along with the possible GL film which would more than likely be released in March or May and the Clash of the Titans. What we do know is that writers have been actively working on the MOS script for the better part of the last year. After hearing what was recently said from Horn and Noveck, they want to make sure the scripts and are done correctly before just green lighting anything now.

They need to think more positive when it comes Superman and stop dwelling on the past and what SR did or did not do. A kick a$$ sequel to SR has to much potential to just let the Superman character slide until say 2013. WB's, Singer and the new writer(s) should ALL know by now what the next Supes film needs to improve upon SR with the fans and financially and half of it has to do with the budget. If they lower the budget to no more than 160 million and make a sequel with a bad a$$ villain that hasn't been seen before oncreen (Braniac) then create some bad freakin a$$ action, visuals, fight and flight scenes that are intense, and with a tighter run time 2 hours and 10 minutes....then they will be looking at least 315-350 million domestic IMO.
