Probably the best of the series to date. The after credits scene was 10 shades of awful though. Unless you know who they are referencing from the comics(which I did) then it's going to mean zip to your average movie goer. At least Thanos at the end of Avengers was referenced within the movie by virtue of the character of the Other who Loki talks with. This here is just completely out of left field and utterly devoid of context.

Anyway, I probably won't see it again until home video but I will check it out again.

Also, want to add this: I instantly wanted to watch it again. Not to make up my mind about something, but to just see it again right away for the sheer satisfaction. Never has a movie's flaws been so easy to brush aside for me as with DOFP.

BTW! I saw a trailer to a new Mathew Vaughn film KINGSMAN (at my screening the other day) and it reminded me of the First Class look.

he is very good with those sorts of films, it reminded me why he was a good choice for that specific time frame and sort of film..

Yes that movie looks quite good. I have yet to dislike a Matthew Vaughn film(and yes I have seen all the films he's directed).

Mad ones, liked your review. Much agreement.

I don't know a single person who knew who that was during the end credits of Avengers...

Nor did I. Thanos isn't any more well known than Apocalypse. My point was that Thanos was connected to the movie his easter egg after credits scene was in. The same thing cannot be said for Apocalypse in DoFP.

I don't know a single person who realized that character was referenced at any point during Avengers.

Then they must have a real short attention span because a character who had multiple lines and was shown in the film proper no less than 3 times was also in that scene to make obvious the tie in. Where in the entirety of DoFP is Apocalypse even remotely hinted at? No where.

I don't give out tens unless they earn it. TEN!

Good to hear how many people enjoyed this. Still pumped, almost no sleep for 30hrs, saw it 8 hrs ago. Not sleepy at all.

Yeah...that there was another outer space bad guy with the other outer space bad guys. They still didn't know who the hell it was.

DOFP is a movie about mutants that has a mutant at the end. They're not going to know who the hell that is either, but it's not exactly unchartered territory.

That sounds familiar. :funny:

Glad everyone is enjoying it too! Getting to see it early was awesome, but it's even better now that everyone is getting to see it too.

It's the difference between telling an over-all larger story amid the smaller stories and not doing so at all. I really wonder what the point of adding that stinger after the credits in DoFP was for anyway. Anyone who would be able to get the reference would also already likely know that X-Men: Apocalypse is coming in 2016 anyway. And almost certainly he's not even going to look the same there as he did here in DoFP so it just seems like a waste. Fox has already shown that they want a cinematic universe for their Marvel films. Well you need to have a larger story running in the backround to make that work.

Me too! Bringing the folks. My dad's gonna love. I have no idea what my mom will think of it...

The first film I took my wife to was X2 and we loved it.

Eleven years later she says I still haven't grown up out of that stuff but late last night she did something odd.

So this morning she say's I watched Wolverine on TV and liked it. So I said' "Oh! so you watched Origins on FX?" she said' "no!, I watched your Bluray of the Wolverine and was floored". Now she say's we are going to see DOFP the first chance she gets with me. I get to Re-kindle the first X2 date movie with DOFP! I am so happy! ;-)

This really is one of the more flawless films of the genre.
Most of the small issues I have are more preference than anything wrong with the film per-say-like more stuff for the future gang to do. It would have been awesome if Warpath, Blink, Bishop etc had a little more to work with, but the narrative didn't call it for it. It's not an X3 situation where they wanted to make everybody feel important just to have everything feel half-assed and rushed.

The balance between the characters is better handled than some of the characters in First Class (mainly Angel and Raven switching sides so easily) which is the main problem I have with that film.

This is also the most openly comic book feeling of the whole series. Aside from Singers love of black costumes, he really seemed to let the comic booky aspects finally shine through, and I'm happy as hell he let his guard down. The film is a perfect marriage of comic book storytelling with believable human drama. One aspect never overshadows the other.

The humor is spot on and at times very clever. I loved the scene of Wolverine waking up in the 70s. Such a subtly funny scene.

The more I think about it, the more I love it. I still don't know if it's better than Cap 2, but it has cracked the top 5 personal favorite CBM's for me.

I know, this enthusiasm everywhere is great. Make sure to fist-bump your dad often when you two watch it.

I've had to explain EVERY MCU end credit scene to everyone I've seen them with. This is no different.

Thanks! There is so much more I could say about it too. I honestly haven't felt this way since X2.

Same. Exactly same. So much love in both movies and FOR both movies.

I remember seeing Iron Man on opening weekend, and almost all of the audience was clueless at that end credits scene. I overheard a guy saying to his kid, "I dunno...I guess that makes sense if you read comic books..."

I never said they didn't require explaining in regard to the MCU after credits scenes. And I was only talking about The Avengers scene with Thanos. My complain with the Apocalypse scene is that it's out of no where. It isn't referencing ANYTHING in the movie it's connected to other than happening on the same planet and involving mutancy. Nothing specific.

God Bless people like Patrick Stewart & Hugh Jackman (X:Men Origins - Wolverine), along with Kelsey Grammar, Famke Jansen and James Marsden (X:Men - DOFP).

RARELY, and I mean RARELY do I see BIG-TIME box office stars who are willing to stop by and lend their presence to a film, even if it's for a casual walk by (Beast) or a surprise entrance at the end of a film, (as Professor X did in Origins).

This kind of thing adds SO MUCH to a movie, and most of the time the stars won't lend their name or time to do it without a huge payday.

Except that mutant doing all of that stuff. :cwink:

Yeah, but in that scene you have loads of things tied into the very movie that was just watched(Tony and Jarvis and the Shield organization). What tie in is there in DoFP? Earth as the location and mutants as the subject matter. Pretty damn vague by comparison. Knowing more about Apocalypse won't add anything to the film that had just been seen. It had about as much to do with it as adding that DoFP stinger at the end of TASM2(well ok, slightly more as they are in the same universe here).
