Even one of the worst movies I've seen in years (Noah) didn't get a 1 from me. That person must have an agenda (studio wars etc).

I agree. There's always something else going on with that sort of rating that makes absolutely no sense. I wouldn't even give Batman and Robin a 1 and it is certainly a film that deserves it.

I haven't really thought about it but maybe there is a way they could explain why Sabertooth is the way he is in X1, and seemingly different on XOW, now that they have included these alternate time lines into the mix.

I don't care for an explanation...after all, look at the Task discussion with Dinklage and Dukes.

I would like to have Schreiber back though. He was one of the few(and I mean few!)things I liked about X-men: Origins.

With Sabretooth just go with the he became feral after events of origins and that's how
Magneto found him.

I didn't think Liev's Sabretooth needed to be more feral. He was already pretty sadistic and evil. I don't find the two different portrayals all that different in terms of how feral or evil they were. The only difference in my eyes was that the Sabretooth in X1 had longer eyebrows, longer hair and little to no dialogue. Until they write him better, Liev's Sabretooth is my preferred version and closer to the comics in terms of personality. Especially if you read Sabretooth's 4 issue solo story(I think that came out in the 90's, can't quite remember).

so, just got back from seeing it.

Holy ******* S***!!!

Just got back, and I loved it. Definitely my favorite of the franchise thus far, and my 2nd favorite CBM of the year.

I did have some issues with the parallel timelines and so-forth, but that's always gonna happen when you're dealing with time-shifting plots. Still, it served as a great reset button for the series, and the performances, particularly from Lawrence and McAvoy were great. I felt like this installment was sorely needed to reconcile the past Mystique we met in XM:FC with the older one we knew from earlier films, and Lawrence and the screenplay did a fantastic job of doing that.

Special shout-out to Peter Dinklage who I felt made what could have been a mustache-twirling villain feel like a real person with conviction. I believed him when he said he admired the mutants and thought they were the key to a new age of peace for mankind, even if his logic behind that belief was seriously...flawed, lol.

As with all of Singer's X-films, I found the action to be good-but-not-spectacular, though as with the White House sequence in X2, he continues to find fun ways of demonstrating certain mutants powers like in the Quicksilver sequence for example. And speaking of Quicksilver, while I loved his whole sequence in the film, I really wished they'd found a way to bring him back in the end. His entrance felt to me like the introduction of a fun new dynamic within the group and then...he's gone from the rest of the film (aside from a shot of him watching TV). Made him feel more like a plot device than he should have been, imo.

Anyhoo, that's a minor quibble, and tbh, minor quibbles are all I have with this flick. I think it's extremely impressive that this franchise has had its best outing to date 7-installments in. I mean, how rare is that? Can't wait for Apocalypse. 8.5/10.

:funny:

Right? It was sooo damn good.

I know!!

I've been getting tired of the whole X-Men franchise, feeling it was time to just reboot the whole thing and start fresh.

First Class was a breathe of fresh air and a welcome change. I remain concerned, however, how they would tie the new cast in with the old one with all the baggage from the prior films.

When they announced DOFP, I knew the whole time travel scenario was a perfect excuse to retcon and reboot what needed to be discarded from the prior films ( namely X3 and Origins ).

and that's what I felt they achieved in this film. Now, I'm looking forward to the new timeline they can chart starting with Apocalypse.

And, I don't normally cry during CBMs, but I did get teary eyed during a few scenes in DOFP.

Definitely one of the best CBMs I've seen!!

I wanted a reboot too because there are so many continuity errors. But this is the closest we'll ever get to a reboot. DOFP had to just be so damn good that I was just like "***** it, keep going".

I agree! Before I saw the film a number of people were saying how he wasn't in the film that much but I think his screen time was just about perfect. The way some people made it out to be, I thought he was only going to have two scenes.

Gave it a 9, great movie will see it again

I was surprised just how important Mystique was to the story ( and to the whole history.....lol ).

but glad that the name "Raven" was used so much!! :woot:

Just saw it. Loved it. Hands down the best one in the series so far. Totally geeked out at the ending and how it was basically a big "**** you" to X3, lol.

And Quicksilver was great. Didn't see that coming...

I think that was totally due to Jlaw being the current 'it girl' in Hollywood.

yep!! :woot:

now, if they can give me a proper Psylocke in Apocalypse or X-Force, I'll be a happy raven!!

oh, and Gambit, too!!

Curious to know what JFK's mutant abilities were…:)

btw, Bryan Singer killed X-Men like George Lucas killed Star Wars. I wish Singer never wasted time with that awful Superman movie of his. Then Singer decides to slip in when Vaughn makes First Class great.

If you did your research you'd know that Singer WAS going to direct First Class but had to bow out because he was contractually obligated to direct that Jack and the Beanstalk movie for WB.

So no, Singer didn't just hop on the FC bandwagon, he was there from the beginning.

It's amazing how we have these pieces of equipment we use to post on message boards...yet contain the wealth of human knowledge and few people use it.

Yep, and he co-wrote the story I believe. So for me he has been involved in the four best films in the series.

ah, thanks.

A theme in DOFP is the idea of being given a second chance and that even if you stumble you can pick yourself up and move forward.

and that's what if felt like for Singer, too. a rare opportunity to "fix" what went wrong in the past and in a sense redo and rewrite the past.

so it seems that X3 and Origins have been pretty much nixed.

but what about the 1st 2 films?

are we to assume that the events will play out the same way they did? or will their timelines be altered, too?
