He says earlier in the interview that he thinks Johns and that set are crazy for coming up with a great story and then realizing they need to tell a bunch of other stories to lead up to that story. The way he described it, he'd just cut straight to the first great story idea and then iron out the rest as an afterthought because he feels there's a responsibility to the reader to engage them in every single issue. I personally think as a reader that seeing the journey to a great payoff unfold before me is a great story in itself.
