Official Rulk Thread

Well, maybe there IS a reason. The difference between story-telling today and 25 years ago is these days plots are drawn out a lot longer than back then. Doesnt mean an explanation isnt forthcoming....

Though I agree a lot of books today have plots padded to hell and back (to make them trade friendly), the re-emergence of the Grey Hulk came after several issues of build up (more than enough for a trade book) that lasted longer than Red Hulk will. Similarly, when the Professor Hulk came into the scene Peter David built that up over several issues, and did so again when revealing that persona was not the 'merged' one that it first appeared to be.

And I wouldn't bet on Loeb explaining the dumb Hulks re-emergence in the next issue, or his suddenly being a big girls blouse (seriously, I've had a badly broken arm myself and never felt like passing out).

If I'm wrong, then fair enough, my apologies in advance to Mr. Loeb, but atm I figure it will be left to whoever takes over the Hulk when he gets his book back from Hercules to explain these changes (assuming they bother...I don't think the Planet Hulk/WWH Hulk persona, a more noble version of the Grey/fixit one, has ever really been explained).

The Planet Hulk persona was built on the more intelligent green Hulk that Banner wound up transforming into towards the end of Jones' run and that Peter David continued using for his short run. That was the form the Hulk stabilized at after Jenkins did the whole "million Hulk personas" story in his Hulk series and Jones had started having Bruce randomly transform into anything from the savage green Hulk to a weird, super-Banner form where he got super-strong but stayed in his human body.

Ahh, that would be after I stopped reading the book (Stopped reading a whole bunch of books back then, a little before they re-numbered/relaunched the titles) and only picked up the book regularly again after Jones left.

I did catch a few issues in between and they had either the Professor or Grey Hulk (didn't like the stories much so I never looked further) but from what I've read (done a little digging today) Professor, Grey and Dumb were showing up alternately throughout "Volume 3"? Sounds like a bit of a mess.

Yeah, Jenkins introduced the idea that Bruce's multiple personality disorder created a crapload of Hulk personas in his mind, but only a few of them ever actually made it to the physical transformation stage. I can't remember why, but Bruce somehow started manifesting different versions of the Hulk randomly after that. Then he started reliably transforming into what seemed to be the green Hulk with the gray Hulk's intelligence, and then he got shot into space and developed over time into the Green Scar persona that came back to Earth for WWH. That wasn't so much a different Hulk as just someone finally developing the Hulk as a character, as opposed to developing Banner around his transformations.

The Jones run had Banner using meditation and mind control techniques to control the Hulk and that's what led to Banner being able to tap into some of the Hulk's strength without having to completely transform.

I just re-read the Aftersmash Warbound arc and I really forgot how cool it was. Hopefully we can see some more of the Warbound pretty soon.

And hopefully Secret Invasion has a Damage Control follow up mini where the DC crew cleans up after the Skrull invasion. DC is pretty awesome. I wish Marvel would put out a good comedy superhero book like the Irredeemable Ant-Man or a Damage Control ongoing.

And you know what else I like? Those Mini-Marvel stories they put at the back of the issues. The WWH one along with the newer ones with red, green, and blue Hulk are pretty funny too.

Where did those guys end up?
Well the Warbound is now comprised of Elloe Kaifi, No-name of the Brood, Korg, and Kate Waynesboro but now Kate has the old power that once belonged to Hiroim, who died, and Kaira before that.

The mini ends with the Warbound protecting humans from gamma irradiated monsters in the Leader's "Gammaworld", a green dome comprised of gamma radiation that doesn't allow anything in or out, in New Mexico.

What's there to like about "the big Red guy?"

So long as McDuffie's writing, I'm all over that. I've loved Damage Control since the '80s.

Damn, I didn't even know DC was around in the '80s.

Yeah, they had 3 mini-series spread out over the '80s and early '90s. They were all written by McDuffie, so they were all hilarious. They had worse art than the recent mini, though. Really sketchy, rough art.

Wow! Just saw the Hulk/Thor fight. W.O.W. I can't believe Marvel allowed Loeb to take out Thor like that. He basically pissed on Mjolnir, the Odinforce(or Thorforce), and everything Stan Lee all the way to JMS built on.

I haven't had the...snicker...pleasure of reading Rulk's latest issue (didn't even know it was out yet), but have ANY of the follwoing been addressed YET?!

1) Rulk's identity?
2) How can the Abomination be killed with any kind of gun?
3) How Rulk is supposedly stronger than a WWH Hulk (even if the Hulk ISN'T WWH related anymore)
4) Umm...Rick as A-Bomb?!
5) Where is Samson?

And as to be expected, what new questions have come up, since with his wrirting style, each issue of his work always creates new, stupider questions.

1. I am still saying its Nick Fury

2. Well he wasnt killed by the bullets, but by the fact his jaw was ripped open

3. Its not the strength but the type of power he has

4. Rick has dormaint power that came out when he was with the Avengers (and is a future Captain marvel. Read Avengers Forever)

5. No clue but its a set up to cover the fact who red hulk really is
