Official Script Discussion

No, Spike whips out a picture of your mom and scares the spark out of Megatron.

Wait a second - Substance "D" ?
Don Murphy ? Is that you ?

You know I was rereading it. At a script writing standpoint. As in how a script is and should be written. It looks like it was written by two screenwriting students who have only taken one class. I mean every page I see...it's just not how you write a script. Half the things in the descriptions are known as "author's nose" which is sort of an author writing something that...would look great in a novel or something but, you don't put it in a script because it's not on screen. And that's only part of it. Sounds nitpicky I know. But it pisses me off these guys can't write a script properly but they get to write a ****ing Transformers movie.

And frankly if the writers can't get that right:o

It's on post 471(which is like on page 19)

But anyway yeah, this movie definately feels like small soldiers. Which btw is pretty annoying now after 8 years...

Don't ever insult Small Soldiers.

I also noticed a lot of exclamation marks, caps in simple descriptions and underlined parts. Now, I'm not an expert on scriptwriting by any means, but it seemed childishly excited to me.

Caps in descriptions are supposed to be there. Though there were one or two times where, they were being used for things that...just didn't need to be in caps. Underlined is sort of...up to the writer but you don't see them used...as often as in this script.

Exclamation points are also left up to the writer. You're never really told to use them, and you're sort of swayed not to. I use them but only when it's right. It was defenitly used a BIT too much. Where it came off ridiculous a few times. If you use them you use them sparingly.

Ah, thanks. I was kinda suspecting it to be mostly like you said, but it's nice to be informed.

You and Zer00 ake good points. Could we actually be looking at a rough draft?? You now, something the writer completed, then later revised and cleaned up? I don't think you'd get a job in Hollywood without being able to write a script properly.

Just a side note...
Substance D hasn't posted here since being called Don Murphy.

Firstly, I'd like to point out that Zer00 should be named first in this case, with my own name being somewhere far behind. I didn't contribute that much.

Anyway, I once again point to the date of the script in context with the filming. This thing must've gone through several revisions already. I suspect that it got worse before it never got better.

You'd be surprised how many final drafts(of quite bad movies) that have been released by WB, Fox, Paramount, are written poorly in context of script writing.

And once again. This draft is dated Febuary of this year. In the most it has gone through one more revision.

And revisions have to do with story. If you can't write a script like a script the first, second, third or fourth time and need to go through the final time to get it right. Then you should flip some burgers, or atleast be President of Fox.

Fair enough. But I'm not editing it. :D

can someone please PM me it to me?? i cannot access any of the links....

This movie still feels like "Small Soldiers"....so it pretty much feels like a rehash of the movie.

First of all, thanks Knives122 for pointing me to the link...

Now, I've read until page 28, and I'm glad they are using a camaro for Bumblebee. It's behavior is so Herbie, and we would never hear the end of it if he were a VW Beetle

I agree. The behavior is consistent with the G1 character I remember. I would take issue if they had him behaving "muscle-y" and being a Camaro. The particular car he is turns out to be incidental when you look at the things he does and says :)

I think Kanon was referring to the fact that BB's behavior IS Herbie... he doesn't talk for most of the movie. He communicates all cutesy and stuff, using the radio mainly. I for one don't remember that being BB at all in G1. He was mute for like one panel in TF#1 the comic as he had run out of fuel... but that's about it.

Someone in another thread listed their gripe as such:
[bumblebee's herbie like character instead of having his original personality but looking like a herbie]

Right. But I thinks is OK. Not great, but not really bad either. I can live with that.

BTW, ten pages later, I'm reading the "more than meets the eye" line again... I think the first one is OK, the second was forced. I hope that was the last one.

Hope is such a terrible illusion..

I counted three!

How are we having a script discussion, when none of us here have seen the final one? Kinda funny how that works out.
