CFlash said:And we all know just how reliable Market Research is. Look at The New Coke circa 1985. Anyone interested in the Hollywood mechanics of "Producers" should watch Tim Burton's Ed Wood... or "The Producers" play for that matter. I think producers (for the most part) are scum and have ruined many a movie.
Movies should be more about the art than about the money. It's filmmakers that know how to balance the two that are great (Spielberg is the epitamy of this). Filmmakers that just see dollar signs are the crappiest of the crap (Michael Bay, Roland Emmerich).... IMHO, for sure, but also many a Hollywood watcher's opinion too.
I don't disagree with you, but to think that things should work differently is not the same as ignoring the way that they DO work. This is the way it is, and someone with a lesser known name as a director is a slave to the system. Plus, there is only so much someone can do to polish a turd. The script for x3 was weak, but the film is a technical achievement. Transformers will be the same...it will look fantastic, it will be shot well and it will deliver a visual treat. Transformers was never really high-art. The cartoon was pure 80's cheese, and as good as the comic was, it wasn't good enough to be called a classic. I say this as a very big fan of Transformers, that still collects G1 toys, many of them were my most prized posessions as a teenager. The toys were cool...the characters were relatable, and if they can retain some of the magic then the movie should be fun at least.
