Reportedly Sheen wanted the role, but Cameron didn't want to give it to him. DiCaprio was Cameron's first choice.
But after DiCaprio didn't show up at the Oscar's to support Titanic because he didn't get nominated, Cameron got pissed and said that he would never work with DiCaprio again, and that he would be looking for a new guy to play Parker before the rights got thrown into court again.

Honestly, thank God that didn't happen.

I like Arnold, but he's just not right for that role.

Molina was perfect as Doc Ock. Well maybe not perfect, but damn good at least.

There is a chance for that to happen but :

Pirates 3 will make 150 millions less than Pirates 2

SP3 will make 130-150 more than SP2

'nuff said.

after 2 weekends both movies have 625...will see how much Pirates has necxt weekend...SP3 had 750

I know how much they made what's your point?

My point is AWE is of course going to go down...

When you consider all the competition it's still going to do great worldwide. I mean to make 8/900 million with all the competition is great.

I'm just saying your point is kinda lame imo, because DMC made 300 million more than Spiderman 2, so of course AWE is going to go down.

Well the competion is only in the US and it's doing terrible there...SP3 has had better drop-offs with the competion the last 2-3 weeks than when it didnt have any...and worldwide Pirates has no competion,i mean Spidey theater count is down to half that's why it's doing great overseas...and again SP3 drop off is 23% with Pirates.

I think SM3 is holding its own against POTC 3, even with the big drops early on SM3 is really impressing me on its worldwide take.

I think looking at the three trilogies, Spidey visibly has the most consistent one, both in quality and box office performance. My perception of POTC is it performed much like the Matrix trilogy, where the first one impressed people, gave new life to a dead genre and performed better than expected, but not on Spidey´s level, then the second one was a phenomen out of the hype created by the first, but disappointed people, especially cuz the filmmakers try to make more of the franchise than it really had the meat to be, and the third, which received a similarly lukewarm response and now took domestically a nose dive on the BO due to that disappointment. Shrek, the first was a fun movie that made a fun satire of disney´s fairy tales, did very well but not as much as Spidey, and then the second really milked all that was left and was a phenomen, again to some level built up on the hype of the first, but the third one was really a push and took a real nose dive. Spidey had a phenomenal first movie that was well-received, then a second one that was even better, but had a moderate drop in BO, and the third one disappointed a bit but was still enjoyable and had another moderate drop domestically. But overall, it didn´t have the big jumps up and down on both accounts that the other ones did.

BTW, I just read an interview with Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio and I couldn´t believe how laughably pretentious and pompous those two sounded about the whole thing, talking about being inspired by Sartre and crap like that... That´s exactly what went wrong with this franchise, these guys took a concept that was cool exactly because it was effective and entertaining in a not too pretentious way and acted like they had the new LOTR... I felt like slapping them in the face and say, "look, your franchise is about a drunken gayish Keith Richards pirate who´s funny, it doesn´t go much beyond that!"

Jack Sparrow isn't gay!!! :cmad: I thought he was just an alcoholic! :(

MOVIE MARKET: Rave Review for 'Hairspray'; 'Transformers' May Break 6-Day Record of $183.6M; No Hits Among Cannes Competition Films; Plus, Compelling Trailer for 'The Brave One'

by Steve Mason.

Transformers will get a Monday night start

My sources at Dreamworks/Paramount tell me that Michael Bay’s Transformers, which is “locked” and was shown for the first time last week, will not open on Wednesday, July 4 as planned. Instead, it will have Monday night screenings followed by a wide opening on Tuesday, July 3.
Some at the studio believe that, with Spider-Man 3 (Sony) and Shrek the Third (Dreamworks/Paramount) now likely finishing under $340M domestic, that Transformers could wind up being the #1 box office of the summer and of the year.

The first review has “leaked” out from last week’s screening, and it’s from a guy writing under the name of CardsFan34 who posted Ain’t It Cool News.

My favorite part is where CardsFan34 writes, “The last 30 minutes is non-stop robot destruction – I honestly couldn’t tell you everything that happened because it was just so damn awesome I had a hard time keeping up.’ That’s some priceless fanboy raving.

As for the Monday night opening, I think it makes sense. Because the 4th of July is mid-week, there was no way for Transformers to top Spider-Man 3’s $151M 3-day record.

When all is said and done, here are the records likely to fall:

All-Time Top Grossing Tuesday
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest - $15.7M
All-Time Top Grossing Wednesday
Spider-Man 2 - $40.4M

The record to really follow is the 6-day record. Take the Monday night, 7/2 after midnight screenings and add them to Tuesday, 7/3 thru Sunday, 7/8, and Transformers has a shot at surpassing last summer’s Dead Man’s Chest 6-day mark of $183.6M. Three of Pirates 2’s 6 opening days were normal weekdays. The sci fi flick starring Shia LaBeouf opens in a screwy week where Wednesday is the official holiday, but lots of people are taking Tuesday off and many will not be working Wednesday thru Sunday.
