I feel people are completely forgetting that portions of Riddle in the Dark are somewhat comical in the sense that Bilbo is getting rather confident and Gollum is getting frustrated. For an instance both of them become at ease with each other. It's only at the very beginning and towards the end where the tension and unsettling "horror" aspect comes out.

Knowing he's alive and well in LotR isn't going to clue them in?

Well they will know but the fear is still there to a degree. Look at Titanic. We knew the boat was going down, but the people and the story still made us care and hope. Look at King Kong. You know the ape dies, but you dont lose all the tension in a rewatch. Its about how well its presented.

I liked the trailer. Looks good.

"Shut up!"
"I wasn't talking to you." :funny:

Gollum shouldnt be lit that much. He should have remained mostly in shadow with his eyes reflecting what little light there is in the cave. You know, creating atmosphere. Having Gollum fully lit and up close like that takes away the unnerving creepiness of the chapter.

Exactly, and pretty much everything other then Bilbo and Gollum's eyes should be hard to see.

Again, we are seeing barely a fraction of the scene. I'm SURE the scene will begin with Gollum in the shadows until a well timed reveal. It's called creating tension, as you said, and tension does need to be released. You can't have an entire scene with only Gollum's eyes being shown.

Yes you can.

Also, that the beginning of the contest. If Gollum is creepy before that and starts acting cute and cuddly, what is the point? He should never be cure and cuddly.

Gollum and Bilbo kind of getting along is completely different then him being rendered somewhat harmless. That Gollum isn't trying to kill him that very moment, doesn't change that he is a creepy monster who lives in the nether regions of Middle Earth.

Forgetting the negativity for a moment. My favorite bit from the trailer was definitely the short conversation between Galadriel and Gandalf. The words are perfect, as is Bilbo fighting with Sting. Gives me hope.

On Sting, did they "rescale it"? It now looks like a large dagger in Bilbo's hands, which it should. In the LOTR trilogy it looked like a short sword.

I thought it was a short sword or about the length of a morgul blade? While the design is beautiful ive always imagined a sword with the name Sting to have a more narrow blade. You know like a stinger. Maybe im just being too literal with the name.

Sting and Needle always looked the same in my mind's eye, so I am definitely with you there. A thinner broadsword, used more for stabbing then slashing.

As to its size. I always thought it was a very short, almost dagger like weapon for an Elf, that would look bigger in a Hobbit's hands, but not big enough to look like a sword. Maybe it is just me, but it looks quite smaller to me here, at least compared to when Frodo was holding it. Maybe I am just imagining it.

The Gollum from the old Hobbit cartoon--the freakish toad-thing--struck me as a more frightening design of the character. The rabbit sleds fit with the tone of the novel, and the overall lightness now will probably emphasize how bad things get once the Necromancer does...whatever he's going to do in this trilogy.

Yeah Needle was what I was thinking too. That is a sword that is meant to literally sting and stick.

The one good thing about this 3 movie thing. More Cate as the Goddess she is. Thank the Maker they fixed her hair in these ones. :D

Well, not that anyone would expect something different from me but, wow, more of the same. At least the teaser had a moody and epic song. PJ's got the visuals (well, not taking the overall digital look into account, which makes the film already inferior to LotR) and he's likely going to miss the essence - again.

Huh runs parallel with how most...er...some people think of the SW prequels. ;)

Could someone tell me where I could download the trailer in 1080p mp4?
