How that hyena-pitbull monstrosity went beyond the concept-art stage, I will never know.

Inconsistency be damned. These new Wargs are vast improvements.

I know GDT insisted on redesigning them. Whether or not this particular design is his, your guess is as good as mine.

Its simple. They are different breeds. Thats how i like to think of it and will reconcile the difference.

It would be the same with the more humanoid trolls that talk, right?

They legitimately are a different breed in the books. Bill, Tom and Bert were Stone Trolls, whereas the one seen in Moria was a Cave Troll. There are also Hill Trolls, Snow Trolls, and Mountain Trolls, and the one that Aragorn fought at the Black Gate was an Olog-hai, which were Trolls bred by Sauron to withstand sunlight much like the Uruks.

Surely we are stuck with the troll design that we saw in stone form in LOTR, though?

Bag End is one of the most perfectly realised things in these films. I wish that some of the sets could be left intact. The set of Mos Eisley from Star Wars is a big tourist attraction for Tunisia.

I was referring to why Bill, Tom and Bert are different to other Trolls already seen, but I didn't think about that, good point. I really don't see any way around that without causing more problems. Sam states they're the same Trolls so the continuity is already messed up.

Is it really that big of deal?

Not really, but considering it's completely the same production team, writers, producers and director to LotR who are going to lengths to marry the Hobbit up to Rings and make it one cohesive series, it would've been nice. As it is it'll stand out like a sore thumb.

Saying that this is very low on my list of issues with the Hobbit, which in itself is pretty short.

The trolls seen so far in LOTR were cave trolls. Bill, Tom, and Bert are not. At least I don't think they are... not sure.

The Cave Troll in Moria was a Cave Troll :P lol. Bill Tom and Bert are Stone Trolls, while those that appeared in RotK were either Mountain Trolls or Olog-hai.

Concept art of them, at least. It's from the same book that the first pictures of Thranduil came from.

If the Wargs end up looking like that second one, I'll scream with joy. It's disgustingly perfect.

yeah he looks awesome. Not sure what they were thinking with the TT versions.

The scroll had some wargs on it and they seem to match the more wolfish look of the second one. First one looks like a panther. I really hope their eyes glow in the movie or really reflect moonlight. That will be cool as ****.

That second warg would make me pee my pants. I like it! I also like Bilbo's robe.

Good, looks like they finally got the wargs right.

Awesome Wargs.

But tbh, I always liked the old ones from LotR: maybe they weren't the fiendish Wargs from the books, but they worked great in the role of the dumb but fierce mounts of the Orcs.
