For Gollum comparisons. Its amazing how well many shots from the LotR films still hold up.

First off, check out those decade old eyes!:wow:

Not too happy about them making her a red head. When i think elf i don't think ginger.

Red hair just doesn't scream etherial immortal to me. Cliche tho it may be silvery blonde fits more.

Not all the elves in Middle-earth are blonde though.

I know that. Red just seems like an odd color for elf. When i think of red hair i think of tough made of stone highland people. Dwarves and men sure i can see red hair. Men of the north as well. Elves not so much. Black and blonde and maybe brunette but not a ruddy color such as red. Even in our real world red isnt all that common in certain cultures. In midele earth i never would have thought of an elf having red hair.

Lol but in all honesty i am slightly biased. I hate ginger hair. I dont hate people with ginger hair. I just do not like the color at all.

Here is Lilly with red hair a couple years ago. This color i like.

It may just be the lighting in that photo that makes it look so red.

Yeah, gollum still looks pretty good (in most shots, anyway), but something that always bothered me was the lack of real secondary animations on the character. For soneone so skinny, one should really be able to see more muscle movement, skin pulling, ribs poking out during breathing, etc, but this was practically none-existent. I hope this is fixed in The Hobbit.

Red-haired elves do exist in Tolkien's mythology, but unless Tauriel is a descendant of Nerdanel (unlikely), it doesn't make much sense for her to have it.

Gold hair is also an uncommon trait for elves, which is something that bugged me about the films. Pretty much all of the Lothlorien elves had it, which I think took away from some of the dramatic impact of seeing Galadriel and Celeborn for the first time.

Looked up Nerdanel. Her last decendant was her grandson Celebrimbor and he had no decendants from what I could tell. You are right Tauriel cant be a decendant so her having red hair is odd in more ways than one.

Oh and Celebrimbor's body was used as a banner by Sauron. Jeesh talk about a bad day.

Philippa Boyens is starting to annoy me with some of the comments she's been making recently.

I knew she had been making comments but havent been reading them. Might as well know so i can brace myself.

Except for that one scene in the Return of the King the extended footage where Sam threatened Gollum. "No more slinker. No more stinker. You're gone. Got it? I’m watching you." You were able to see Gollum's six pack.

Bearing in mind that this is the supposed "Tolkien expert" on the production:

- At Comic Con, she claimed that Galadriel is the strongest being in Middle-earth (wrong).
- She recently said that The Hobbit is just as much Thorin's story as it is Bilbo's (wrong).
- She claims that a red-headed Tauriel is "in the spirit of Tolkien, despite the fact that red-hair has only been attributed to one family (of which Tauriel could not have been a part).
- “You get to see more of him [Gollum], and that’s never a bad thing.” It is when the character serves no purpose in the narrative outside of the Riddles in the Dark sequence.

I don't know. Between some of her comments on The Hobbit, and some of her past comments on LoTR, I really get the impression that she assumes she knows better than Tolkien when it comes to adapting these stories into a different medium, when ninety-nine times out of hundred that hardly ends up being the case.

"Boom has stinky feet and his mother dresses him funny." - Philippa Boyens

:awesome:
There is actually some truth to that statement. My mother used to dress me in a sailor outfit for church when I was a small child :csad:.

Gollum annoys me for the most part so expanding his part doesnt please me.

Tauriel's red hair isnt a deal breaker but to choose that color in light of the fact that only one elven family had red hair and said family is extinct is a glaring mistake.

I've heard from others that the Hobbit is also partly Thorin's story. Its been a long time since ive read the book so i cant really comment beyond that.

About Galadriel, isnt she the most powerful elf currently residing in Middle Earth? Maybe that's what she meant? Clearly the Maiar, such as Gandalf and the Balrog, are stronger.

I've read The Hobbit more than any other book in my lifetime (once a year, give or take), and I can confidently say that it is not just as much Thorin's story as it is Bilbo's. That is asinine. I've talked about this with other Tolkien fans, and most of them are scratching their heads over this comment. With the exception of "Fire and Water" and the tail-end of "Flies and Spiders," the story never deviates from Bilbo's perspective. Thorin is just another character that Bilbo interacts with (albeit a major one).

That's not to say that Thorin's story isn't an important part of the book. It certainly is, in so much as it relates to Bilbo's own journey. But is it just as prevelant as the title character's? Hardly. Boyens and I must have been reading different books.
