I'm sorry but HHH just isn't credible enough and yet you want him to be the lead in Thor?? Hell no.

I say Hulk Hogan as Thor.

If we're talking credibility as an actor then I'd say he has more experience than most unknowns so that already puts him up there.

I've never heard the man speak with an accent before but I honestly think that he can pull off Thor...Well...everything except sadness anyway. I've never seen him convey sadness before and I can't imagine him crying...Yes I am reading Ragnarok as I type this.

Upper, what is so illogical about the first Thor film taking place solely on Asgard? Before he ever stepped foot on earth he was in Asgard to begin with, during the run we got prequel sort of thing going on as to what Thor's life was on Asgard before he came to earth.

And this is an origin film. It doesn't have to be Journey Into Mystery from page to page. And remember and I hate to say this, but this movie isn't only for us it is for the general public as well. The film has to be done to draw interest from all sides, and I hate to say this to, not just ours.

Personally, I was very happy with the script review for the fact that I was one of the Thor fans who enjoy his adventures on Asgard more than on earth. We have enough heroes on earth all with the same secret identities and personal problems. To me this makes Thor stand out from the other Marvel films, and since I just love epic films I'm going to get another one staring my favorite hero for over 17 years.

....when was wrestling good?
I agree with Thorfan, the movie should take place on asgard and possibly end up on Earth. Makes me wonder if they want to do a Tales of Asgard type story first.
when they had the hotter chicks there, and when people werent dying left and right :p

You know, there are other interpretations of Thor. He doesn't always look like a pretty boy.

I think this is where Vaughn got the idea of Mckidd as Thor. I could see him with a Goatee and shoulder length hair looking like ultimate Thor. I don't think he looks like 616 thor.

I m in favor of a an unknown actor: the reason? None of what I saw previously was at at 6ft3. ( I do not include the wrestlers).

I assume everuone's seen the news on the frontpage!

Director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust) talked to Empire Online about helming Marvel Studios' Thor. Here's a clip:

"My only concern initially was that it's another fantasy film [after Stardust], but it's different in the sense that it's a superhero film set in the world of fantasy. You've got Thor and Odin and it's set in Asgard - it's not going to be like Lord of the Rings or even Narnia. I think it's important to keep it comic book. We're not doing the Thor of Norse mythology. We're doing the Marvel Thor."

That sounds great, since the script review let us understand that this is not so much a MARVEL Thor as it is just Thor. So maybe the script has changed?

I think it s a good idea not to copy LOTR.

Sounds good to me. We will see these characters truly treated like gods and maybe get some secret ID action thrown in. Hell, I'd be pretty happy if they mixed in some of the stuff from the current storyline with him having to find the gods in their mortal forms and all.

Here is the full interview

“Marvel were so surprised to see this other side of me with Stardust,” recalls Matthew Vaughn of his initial meeting to discuss his vision for the God of Thunder. “They actually said to me, ‘You are going to make Thor more macho? Right?’ Well, don’t worry – Thor’s not going to be wearing a dress".

Eschewing the floral frock and pumps combo is, all things considered, a step in the right direction when conceptualising one of comics’ hardest heroes. It’s a leap back on the horse for Vaughn, too, who missed out on his previous chance to assure his place in the comics hall of fame when he walked away from X-Men III.

“When I went into Marvel for my first X-Men meeting, I saw a figure on the desk and said ‘are you guys are going to make Thor?’ They said, ‘We’re just going to commission a script. We want to do it like Gladiator with Norse mythology and the birth of a superhero’. That really stuck in my mind. And when Marvel saw Stardust, they asked me to do it. So here I am, back again and prepping Thor.”

The son of Odin (king of the gods, fond of ravens) and brother to Loki (tricksy, given to practical jokes), The Mighty Thor wields the power of thunder and lightning. Such potency doesn’t lend itself to modesty though, and so it is that Thor is sent to Earth in order to learn some humility. In comic lore, part of this lesson includes a mortal identity (that of disabled medical student Donald Blake) and all recollection of godhood banished from his mind. Word is that Vaughn’s origin tale will touch on none of this, staying firmly in Asgard for the duration, but maybe that’s a good thing. Of all the comic adaptations that have been mooted (and it’s a very long list indeed), few are more potentially fraught than Thor. After all, Hollywood was built on web-slinging vigilantes and men who dress up as bats to pummel villains in makeup, but when your hero is an aeons-old Norse god with a hammer, who speaks in the vernacular of Shakespeare, things could easily veer towards the daft. For his part though, Vaughn does not appear concerned with the potential pitfalls.

Ehh... never read the hole thing... so it is still going to set only in Asgard. Too bad.

Well I'd rather the Movie lead up to Thor being banished, rather than what happened in JIM 83.

When I read that it was going to be like 90% Asgard I was excited. It does justice to the character's origins, and sets up his appearance in the Avengers movie.

Personally I don't think the character lends itself well to a stand alone vigilante movie, and setting his movie in Asgard makes him look less hokey, and then adding him to the Avengers movie, he has other heroes to lend his existence in our world credibility.

For supporting cast or extras, these guys HAVE to be in the movie.

Should be interesting. Can't wait!

Wow guess I am a minority here but that script sounds terrible and almost not even good enough for a straight to DVD movie.
Thor based in Asgrad just will not work IMO, he needs to be linked with Dr Donald Blake or its just not Marvel Thor its Norse mythology Thor and if they are going to screw it up this badly they should just go with making the Norse mythology Thor.

I just heard a rumor on the Thor boards that New-line is going to fast track Thor because of a strike! I don't have any links but can SOMEONE PLEASE find out if this is true or not, I gotta go to work.

Every time I read or hear the name Phil Pfister I just burst out laughing.

That's one helluva unfortunate surname (or not, depending on how you look at it - great if you wanna be a porn star - no need to take a 'stage name').

But yeah, they could be in there, somewhere. I wouldnt wanna see them as normal Asgardians though as we don't wanna see whatever guy they pick as Thor to be dwarfed.
