What are the odds of Heimdall crossing over with Cage anyway? I doubt we'll see any Asgardians outside of Thor's movie besides Thor and Loki, just like with the comics. How many cameos has Heimdall dropped in 40 years of comics outside of Thor or Thor-related comics?

Not Heimdall and Cage, but I think Cage has a chance of meeting Thor. I think it would be stupid for them both to be played by the same person if thats in the cards. And considering his recent connection to Avengers, and for the sake of team diversity, I see Cage being used for an Avengers movie, that is if Marvel owns them (which they apparently dont)

Eh, I wouldn't mind if Heimdall and Cage bear a striking resemblance. But I've been watching Hercules and Xena lately, where practically every guest star is cast as more than one character at some point, so I'm probably a bit numbed to the effect of it.

Isn't it funny to look back on this thread, and see how it started out entirely speculation? And now we have pretty much the whole cast filled out, with Balder the last major character without a confirmed actor. And when you look at the cast - Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Jaime Alexander, Stellan Skarsgard, Colm Feore, Ray Stevenson, Stuart Townsend, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba - you can just see how we've really lucked out with an ensemble stuffed with talent. An embarassment of riches is the term I've been throwing around.

So, with so many talented actors onboard, what names will make it onto the posters, do you think? I think they may go the economic route, and narrow it down to this:

NATALIE PORTMAN
TOM HIDDLESTON
AND
ANTHONY HOPKINS

I think you are overcompensating a bit here. Its a solid supporting cast. It's not A-list. The only names I'd put in the promo is Portman and Hopkins. Maybe Hemsworth since he's "The Guy" so you might as well market the pretty boy looks. Look I am not going to complain about the cast. I would have liked to see another big name for Sif and another big supporting actor to pair with Hemsworth (Elba/Townsend don't quite do it for me), but you can't sell this film off the actors as was the case with Norton/RDJ.

I don't know man. The trailer was pretty much RDJ, RDJ, and more RDJ. It was like a reminder that, here's RDJ in case you guys forgot, and this is how talented and entertaining he is. Okay, a cool gadget suit and explosions did help, but I got a more character driven feel to that marketing than I did an action movie. I figured the action would be the weak point and I was right.

I think people were happy to see RDJ back. Even with all his problems, he was still very likable.

That's why I believe TIH was a failure. They made it more about "Hulk Smash" and there was not nearly enough Banner and his struggles. At least from a marketing aspect. You take out all the Doc Sampson stuff and that's what happens. Iron Man was all about Tony Stark.

I think those will ultimately be the names on the poster. Makes the most sense - the two biggest names and the two unknowns who are playing the film's leads.

Robert Downey Jr certainly sold Iron Man for me. His comeback really started with Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang back in 2005. From there, he was able to re-establish himself as a stalwart supporting player with the likes of A Guide To Recognising Your Saints, A Scanner Darkly and Zodiac. I'd say Iron Man was more the culmination of his comeback trail rather than the start of it.

I didn't say the cast was A-list. But in terms of talent, I'm certainly familiar with the work of most of the people here, and they're very good. From an acting standpoint, this is a very exciting cast for me as a film fan as well as a Thor fan.

I don't think this was ever a movie that was going to be sold on its cast. Even with starry supporting players, the whole "selling on the stars" thing largely depends on who's playing the lead role, and Thor was always going to be a relative unknown. I assumed they'd compensate by getting bigger names for Odin and Loki, and I was half right, with them getting a far bigger name than I would have anticipated for Odin with Anthony Hopkins. And though they're not stars, there are plenty of familiar faces in the supporting cast. But really, with Thor it was always going to be sold on the spectacle rather than going the RDJ/Norton route.

I would equate a movie like the Ocean's 11 series as relying purely on big names to sell it. Thor seems closer to LOTR in that they put together an awesome cast of really good actors, some of which do have name recognition, but are going to let the strength of the story and incredible visuals to really sell it.

The likening to LOTR is a good one - a mixture of the odd 'lesser' names, solid character actors and the odd well known 'big' name; with faith being placed firmly in the appeal of the story and visuals to bring the audience in.

It's an ensemble cast. There may not be any huge names that jump out and grab you from a marketing perspective, but there's a solid set of very talented actors who could very easily make a great film.

Maybe it's just me but this is the one movie I felt we needed a big time cast. I am not complaining or anything as the cast has slightly exceeded the expectations I had when Hemsworth was announced (Hopkins probably puts it over the top). I just hope that these current actors can build up their reputations as we get closer to the release. Just sort of get their names out there in hopes that people will recognize some faces when the trailer hits. That's all I can hope for at this point.

Id say these are very reputable actors. They just dont scream "big Hollywood blockbuster opening weekend" but there have been articles and blogs for a long time now leading up to that new list of most overpaid actors all that suggest "A-list cred" is a fading way of getting people into the theater. I still say its too early to say, but I think the sheer fact that many are talking about it will lead studios to follow it for awhile

Yeah, it's a great time to be a Thor fan. Who would've thought that we'd ever be seeing a big budget Thor flick with this kind of talent behind it?
