Since they are pursuing someone around the 20 year old mark, Jean-Paul Levesque is out. He's almost 40.

Someone needs to close this thread or merge it with one of the other Thor threads.

Hey all! :)

I think Kevin McKidd would be a horrendous choice to play Thor. Hes not tall enough, hes not good looking enough, hes also probably too old, and he doesn't have anywhere near the physique.

Hes just totally wrong for the role.

Do we need to go over the height issue again? I mean, its only 2 posts above yours....

Definately - with a more fleshed-out/developed role, Mane could rock the $hit as Sabretooth.

Quite right; X-Men didnt make the most of him.

Hopefully Wolverine will.

I think we do need to go over it again rather than sweep it under the carpet.

Also that was my first post in this thread on the subject given in the thread title. So unless we are censoring posts now

...and quite frankly KangConquers saying "the height is not a problem" doesn't mean the height is not a problem, it just means thats his opinion, and I respect him for it, even though I disagree with him.

Kevin McKidd as Thor is practically the same as Tom Cruise as Superman.

Irrespective of what camera angles and raised heels can do for actors on screen. You also have to consider the persona offscreen. The actor portraying Thor (or Superman) should convey some sort of presence when meeting the public.

Isn't it okay for Thor to be relatively taller than other characters? I mean...do you want to just see Thor be 4-5 inches taller than everyone, or does he have to be this tall *Holds hand up* to ride the wave to box office success.

Hey there Kang! :)

No. Simply because you'll end up casting midgets (relatively speaking) and eventually they will bite you in the rear.

The actor playing Thor will have to command a presence on and off screen to make the role semi-believable.

If Kevin McKidd were being interviewed, or you met him in the street (at the movie premiere) you wouldn't think there was anything godlike about him at all. Whereas if you met/saw an actor who was notably of above average height, above average build and above average attractiveness you would think 'good casting'.

Its not all about whats onscreen.

To be honest I think the only way to take a big dip in height is to cast a known superstar. The only actor I can think of who even remotely fits that criteria and is okay for Thor would be Brad Pitt. Even then, I wouldn't cast him because he is too old and too small, but I could see it working.

The ideal actor would have blond hair, model good looks and be about 6'4" (or slightly better) tall (we can always work on the physique - as with the 300 movie). Basically a young Dolph Lundren.

Now the problem is that no obvious known actor fits that criteria. Ergo we must go with an unknown (or relatively unknown) actor. The only way an unknown actor will be allowed to play the lead in such a big budget role (As with Christopher Reeve) is if you stack the supporting roles with big name talent (Glenn Ford, Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman).

Alright, I am now under the assumption that there are about 25 people on SHH that are not idiots.

HEIGHT IS NOT A MATTER! LOOK AT 300. Is Rodrigo Sanchez 8 feet tall? TELL ME THAT!

That's what I've thought too. We need super A-list for Loki and Odin if we go for an unknown.

I'd like Sean Connery as Odin, but he retired :-(.

Loki needs someone who can pull an incredible performance (Think Joker in Batman 89...but more in line with a trickster, than a joker.)

Jason Done played Mordred brilantly and it would have passed easily as Loki.

Hey everyone! :)

Okay, I saw a soap opera called Home & Away on television today. Its been going here for years (I am sure everyone from the UK and Australia are familiar with it), anyway I caught an episode of it today and there was a guy on it who I think has Thor potential.

His name is Chris Hemsworth, hes currently 23 according to imdb (which means he would be about 27 when filming the first movie, 30 for the second and 33 for the 3rd of a trilogy.

According to imdb he is 6'3 1/2". He looks pretty tall onscreen.

Build wise I would say he is currently athletic, so he would need to put on some muscle, but thats easily done.

I'm not really sure how to link images on these forums but here is a website that a google image check turned up.

http://chris4eva1.tripod.com/enter/

So someone with the necessary skills feel free to post up the image. Or if you find a better picture of him somewhere then post that.

What do the rest of you think?

brilliant casting suggestion would be nice to see an unknown in the roll
I have decided to use this actor in my latest manip, and I think he really looks the part

To Bad Halle Berry can't give her baby daddy some acting lesons. His Got the look down and what kid wouldn't want two superheros for parents.

Pretty sure that Karl Urban is now out of the running, as he is doing Star Trek.
