How so? I don't get it.
Skars has been very hush hush about his dealings with Marvel which could mean hes afraid of saying too much and respecting marvels wishes to keep the casting quiet till they are ready to announce it.

Oh, I see it now. It makes sense.

Here's hoping the Thor casting is a great one.

And evidence (rotten screen caps aside) proves he's been hitting the gym

Cool! I hope they announce the cast soon, for a lot of reasons. One of them is not having to read about James Preston Rogers and his campaign anymore. :cmad:

This guy's so desperate.

Who wants to bet he'll be campaigning as soon as a sequel is announced for the movie, regardless of who is under contract?

As for what qualities would make the perfect Thor, Branagh maintained his diplomatic stance, explaining that the must-have traits of the film’s title character were a group decision — a very big group’s decision, in fact.

“There’s a massive fan base out there of devotees, enthusiasts and real experts who have all the answers to that,” said Branagh. “All I can say is that I bare all of that in mind with my Thor education. I read a couple of comics across the years every day, I read the Norse legends and sagas, and [the lead role] needs to have something from all that’s great in the comics and the legends, and needs to live in our film universe.”

“It’s a whole series of things that I could list, but I’m not going to, because I’d have to kill you,” laughed Branagh.

Hmmm

Is that like the more credited writers the worse the film?

I think it's more about “There’s a massive fan base out there of devotees, enthusiasts and real experts who have all the answers to that,” which he goes into in the following paragraph.

In terms of writers, as far as we know it's only Mark Protosevich and Branagh himself working on the script.

OH I like that interpretation much better!
I read it as lots of guys in suits at the studio throwing their 2cents in the casting pot :whatever:

Me too. Skars would be my first choice and Hunnam would be my outside choice as long as its not some Triple H type person I'm happy

I have watched the first episodes of Generation Kill and Sons of Anarchy, giving me an impression of Alexander Skarsgard and Charlie Hunnam respectively. As you'd expect from the makers of The Wire, the performances in Generation Kill aren't showy, and it's more about the ensemble than individuals. But that said, Skarsgard still made a good impression. Is his accent naturally American (perhaps from time spent in the US), or did he just master a totally convincing American accent for this part? Sons of Anarchy was kinda iffy as a show, but Hunnam was good enough in it. I kinda worried he'd be some bland pretty boy that the likes of Ron Perlman would act circles around, but he held his own and has a good amount of screen presence. I'd say either could get the job done as Thor.

Well he is Swedish - but I don't know what his natural accent is like but I did come across an interview with James Ransone who played Ray person in Generation Kill that leads me to think that he worked hard for his accent in GK.

Did Alexander Skarsgard really keep an officer-like distance from the actors playing the other ranks during the making of the series? If so, I hope you gave him a bit of stick about it.

JR: Haha … I love this one. Yes, he kept his distance from us, but for two reasons that aren’t as highbrow as they’re made out to be. The first being that the shoot itself was really intense, six-day work weeks with a lot of coverage, and Alex was in almost all of the scenes. So we would shoot all day, from dawn until dusk, and he would go back to his hotel to prepare for the scenes the following day. This was because Alex has a Swedish accent and he wanted it to be as authentic as possible. The other reason he quarantined himself from the rest of us was because when he did go out, he was the wildest party animal I have ever seen. The two occasions we went out, Alex sang the Swedish football anthem and tried to fight an entire town. After that I was like, “Yeah dude, I get why you won’t hang out with us, if you get killed or go to an African prison, the producers are gonna be pissed.”

If you read between the lines he is CLEARLY talking about The Skars :o

OMG, your right...

if you look at the first letter of every word

"We're down to the final stages of it," Branagh said. "The reason one has to be properly diplomatic, is simply that some talented peopled have been patient, kind, creative and really committed to working with us in this process."

"My reluctance to say generally anything about it is simply out of respect for people who have been extremely respectful of us. That said, I think we are extremely close and I hope to announce a decision sooner rather than later."

do you see it?

MARVEL INKS SKARSGARD

It appears that Marvel has found their Thor. Marvel executive Kevin Fiege and "Thor" director Keneth Branagh have confirmed that Alexander Skarsgard, son of actor Stellan Skarsgard, has signed the dotten line to play the Son of Asgard.

Skarsgard, the standout star from HBO's Generation Kill and True Blood was unavailable for comment, but his representatives have confirmed that he is indeed in line to play the part, which is scheduled to shoot next January.

Director Keneth Branagh offered this, "We are just absolutely thrilled to have Alex attached to this project. Not only is he an outstanding talent but he perfectly fit the direction we wanted to take Thor. From the first time we approached him, there were no doubts in our minds. This was our guy."

Kevin Fiege also added, "Skarsgard is a tremendous talent who certainly has the range and the pedigree to dominate this role. He just had that aura about him. We knew we had to have him from the moment he stepped into our office."

And how about the physical attributes?

"You kidding me?" Fiege responded. "As soon as the guy walks into the same room you can feel that presence. He obviously has the height and the stature that suits the character. And he is already in tremendous shape. Quite frankly, the guy is a beast. I doubt he will have trouble passing for a Norse God."

And who will play the evil twin brother Loki?

Branagh replied, "We are still working on that (laughs)... stay tuned".

So there you have it. At 6'4, with the long blond hair, the certainly has the look. But will he pull it off? I personally love the casting. Now just get Stellan Skarsgard for Odiin and we are set.
