MARVEL INKS SKARSGARD
It appears that Marvel has found their Thor. Marvel executive Kevin Fiege and "Thor" director Keneth Branagh have confirmed that Alexander Skarsgard, son of actor Stellan Skarsgard, has signed the dotten line to play the Son of Asgard.
Skarsgard, the standout star from HBO's
Generation Kill and
True Blood was unavailable for comment, but his representatives have confirmed that he is indeed in line to play the part, which is scheduled to shoot next January.
Director Keneth Branagh offered this, "We are just absolutely thrilled to have Alex attached to this project. Not only is he an outstanding talent but he perfectly fit the direction we wanted to take Thor. From the first time we approached him, there were no doubts in our minds. This was our guy."
Kevin Fiege also added, "Skarsgard is a tremendous talent who certainly has the range and the pedigree to dominate this role. He just had that aura about him. We knew we had to have him from the moment he stepped into our office."
And how about the physical attributes?
"You kidding me?" Fiege responded. "As soon as the guy walks into the same room you can feel that presence. He obviously has the height and the stature that suits the character. And he is already in tremendous shape. Quite frankly, the guy is a beast. I doubt he will have trouble passing for a Norse God."
And who will play the evil twin brother Loki?
Branagh replied, "We are still working on that (laughs)... stay tuned".
So there you have it. At 6'4, with the long blond hair, the certainly has the look. But will he pull it off? I personally love the casting. Now just get Stellan Skarsgard for Odiin and we are set.
