Yea I do read the comics. And Heimdell isn't black.

As I said I don't really have a problem with it but, why change it? I hope it was changed because of artistic purposes and not to pander to the politically correct idiots.

It's neither of those. It's about trying to appeal to more demographics.

Obviously it's not black, but the Heimdall background is unknown. From a Tales of Asgard adventure I remember the Heimdall origin is not asgardian.

Do you have an issue number? I've read all of the early Tales of Asgard stories and I don't recall anything to indicate that Heimdall's not Asgardian. His background hasn't been delved into, but no Asgardian's other than Thor's has. We don't even know who most of the major Asgardians' parents are, for example.

We do know, however, that Heimdall is Sif's brother, so the fact that he's going to be played by a black guy and she's going to be played by a white woman seems a bit odd to me. Granted, they could just ignore that familial relationship; it's never actually been used for much more than a passing mention in the comics.

I think Elba will do a good job, but I was hoping Stellan Skarsgard would play Heimdall. I think Elba is a fine actor, but I'm a bit of a purist and I dislike when they change the color of characters in movie adaptations. Being a black man myself, it's almost kind of offensive to me when movies do so. It's like they're pandering to me because my frail, afro-american ego can't accept a movie with no black people in it. However, I'm sure that Elba was cast more for his imposing frame, voice and ability than just being black.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they went with a black actor, but if anyone believes they cast Idris Elba solely because he's a black man, they clearly have never seen him act.

Yea Elba is a brilliant actor, no doubt. That's why I hope the change was made for artistic reasons, REAL reasons.

Like I said in the Heimdall Thread... I love Elba and I think he's brilliant but he was my choice for Black Panther or Luke Cage which now won't happen :(

yea he could have been idea for those roles but there is plently of great black actors out there who could be ideal for them still.

Isn't it funny to look back on this thread, and see how it started out entirely speculation? And now we have pretty much the whole cast filled out, with Balder the last major character without a confirmed actor. And when you look at the cast - Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Jaime Alexander, Stellan Skarsgard, Colm Feore, Ray Stevenson, Stuart Townsend, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba - you can just see how we've really lucked out with an ensemble stuffed with talent. An embarassment of riches is the term I've been throwing around.

So, with so many talented actors onboard, what names will make it onto the posters, do you think? I think they may go the economic route, and narrow it down to this:

CHRIS HEMSWORTH
NATALIE PORTMAN
TOM HIDDLESTON
AND
ANTHONY HOPKINS

Definitely Hemsworth, Portman, and Hopkins, I think. Not sure if anyone else will warrant it. I imagine they'd go for big names over logical names, so even though Hiddleston plays the primary antagonist, Portman and Hopkins' higher status may set them before him.

Yeah, I did consider that, actually. But given Marvel seeming to like 4 as a nice round figure on their Iron Man and Incredible Hulk posters, I popped in Hiddleston to round things out. But I did put him lower than Portman on the bill.

Oh, I didn't remember what the IM and TIH posters looked like. If they do 4, I agree, Hiddleston is logically next in line. Unless Stellan Skarsgard has a much more important role than any of us realize right now.

I wanted Elba to play Luke Cage. Him as Heimdall is a curveball. Hes an excellent actor, and would certainly the fit the role except visually. I mean, Im having a hard time caring that Heimdall isnt white like in the comics with sucha capable actor cast.

He can still play Cage. Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool, GL and Hannibal King. Actors playing multiple comic book characters isn't such a big deal these days.

I'm still wondering if the choice is maybe an Idea taken from JMS's run but the Asgardian souls left in the mortal body's as REBORN Asgardians.
I really wanting to peek at a script lol

Ray Stevenson is both the Punisher and Volstagg now (probably the weirdest couple of characters to have together on your résumé :D).

He could play Cage, but if Marvel pushes for a shared universe he wont. Reynolds is playing GL for another company and continuity, and his performance as King will in all likeliness never be relived in the Marvel Movie continuity, so hes in the clear. Marvel doesnt own Punisher rights presently so they are in the clear with Stevenson too. I doubt they'll double up actors for roles that have a possibility, even if they are slim, of meeting or interacting with the same versions of present characters (like Hemsworth's Thor)

I thought another studio had the rights to Cage.

I have no idea where the rights are actually. I assumed Marvel. Theres absolutely no movement except for the occasional rapper talking about it, it'll porbably revert in order to get made.
