Official UFC Thread - Part 4

Bonnar's a tough dude but he's sort of MMA's greatest underachiever. He's been more or less a gatekeeper in the UFC and he's never gotten that one big win. He's made a career out of taking good beatings.

Regardless, hopefully it will be a fun fight.

I like Bonnar but it was kind of annoying to me when he went on his bent of, "I only want a fight with a guy with more Twitter followers." Understandable he wants a big fight after winning 3 straight but I mean for example he goes and campaigns for a third fight with Forrest Griffin and spot on Ultimate Fighter. No one wanted to see the third fight with Griffin. He should've campaigned for a more sensible fight like Shogun or something. Shogun/Bonnar for example would've been a much better fight for Fox 4. Maybe UFC tried to make it and Bonnar wasn't up for it, dunno. He said he wanted Rampage but he also said he didn't want to fight Rampage in Japan because he didn't like fighting overseas before.

In MMA everyone has a chance. That's sports in general, so Bonnar could certainly pull off the upset tonight. If he does it'll be Serra level, and since Anderson is my favorite fighter I only have one option if that happens...killing spree! I have my Master Chief suit on stand by, but I don't think I'll be needing it tonight.

true but i dont see where he wins this fight people hoping for wrestling to beat silva keep dreaming he has beaten wrestling 4 times via finish all 4 were superior wrestlers than bonnar

With Anderson there's always been this idea that there is this blueprint to beat him, and wrestling always comes up. Considering how he shut Chael down in the second round of their fight I thought it would finally show people Anderson has damn good defensive wrestling. Oh well, it's the game. It's only until after someone retires that they become this unbeatable in their prime specimen with flawless skills. While they're still around a lot of people think they have this Achilles heel out there to exploit. Anderson definitely can be beat, but I don't think it's as easy as just wrestling.

phenomenal ground game especially off his back

only 1 man put silva in trouble and he needed to be full of steroids to do it

His guard is extremely overrated. Didn't A clean Sonnen just get done systematically slicing through his guard on his way to mount? Didn't Lutter do the same? Look, I like Anderson Silva too, but the man has holes in his game. It's his wrestling and his guard.

I just named two guys that put him in danger in addition to the juiced Sonnen. Chonan tapped him out and was even winning the fight before that by out striking him, Daiju triangled him after telegraphing it like five times.

Once again for the record, I don't think Bonnar's going to win. If he does it won't be by KO or submission. But +700 is worth a play.

you really bringing up a 8 year old fight where silva didn't even train bjj yet or even meet the nog brothers?? those early sub losses made him train his ground game so much he became a black belt under big nog silva was just a striker back then

if his guard is so overrated why did he sub both those guys you named lutter especially is a black belt

If his guard is so impressive why did get passed like a knife through butter? That's the question. Sonnen has been tapped out numerous times, including by a half-dead, suicidal Paulo Filho. Lutter was his best sub, but still that's being taken out of proportion. Lutter has the false "ground wizard" stigma that the UFC drummed up for him the same way they promoted freaking Jeremy Horn and the Carlos Newtons.

Yeah, he never trained any ground before meeting the Nogueiras. Sure. We know Chute Boxe didn't touch the stuff. Whereas someone like Daiju Takase, who got his training at the Tokyo police academy, was well versed in the mats. Really?

You said only one man put him in danger. I pointed out that that wasn't true. Please let me know where I can start considering Silva fights. Where is a good starting point?

I have a bad feeling that Fitch is about to get robbed here.

Edit: Nice to see that I was wrong. Silva definitely needs to start respecting his opponents more.

Silva made it look easy and now first person to finish bonnar in the 1st round no less

look at what he did lol

I'm pleased that Jon got the win. He was truly attempting to finish the fight. Fitch is all heart man. He got dropped by Silva, and he found himself in a rear-naked choke. Yet, somehow, Fitch fought through and dominated the younger lion to the finish. Scratch that -- he broke him.

Fans of the sport may hate his style but dammit it all if Fitch isn't one the best welterweights MMA has ever seen. The guy deserves all the respect in the world.

Oh, and Maldonaldo is not human!!!!! Glover nearly killed him and he still refused to succumb to the damage.

maia looked amazing tonight

i am convinced Welterweight is the nastiest division in mma

GSP
Diaz
Condit
Kampmann
Hendricks
Fitch
Koscheck
Swick
Maia
Dong Yun Kim
Rick Story
Jake Ellenberger
Erick Silva
Rory Mcdonald
BJ Penn
etc.

That was ridiculously awesome! Silva mind f'd Bonnar so bad (go ahead and hit me i'm wide open). I thought it would at least go a few rounds... "If it happens" GSP is too small, big payday but I don't think he has much of a chance now.

There's no one in Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divisions that stand a chance against Ando. He would have to move up to Heavyweight and fight the winner of Dos Santos vs Velasquez.

Silva vs Jones will never happen. The 'respect' angle is a load. Both Silva and Jones are afraid to hurt their legacies with a loss. So neither one would dare to consider the fight.

MMA is the type of sport that anything can happen, however the only way I personally feel somebody is gonna be capable of beating him is if they outweigh him significantly & have good wrestling skills.

I'm not saying put guys like this in with him & he will be easily beaten because he has shown, when he doesn't want to be taken down, he pretty much isn't taken down, however I think somebody is gonna have to have abit of a physical size, strength & weight advantage over him in order to beat him.. because skill wise. Theres nobody that can touch him.

See if the UFC plans Silva vs GSP or Silva vs Jones, I feel both fights should be at catchweights. Silva vs GSP at about 178lbs or so & Silva vs Jones at about 195lbs. I personally feel, even setting aside that Bonnar wasn't perhaps his usual calibre opponent last night, that if Silva fights either GSP or Jones, he crushes them both. He's obviously much superior striking wise than both so bar both them having a punchers chance of clipping him, I think both would be trying to wrestle with him & I feel that even if they manage to get him down, which will be difficult enough to begin with, he is too good at being offensive off his back.

You can tell Silva isn't a LHW, he looked significantly smaller than Bonnar last night in terms of his overall frame & muscle.. his bodyfat as well wasn't as low as it usually usually is.

i never want to see fans saying a guy has a shot because he has never been ko'd

Marquardt
Sonnen
Leben
Bonnar
Belfort

were never ko'd before silva

Silva was hilarious. I knew Bonnar was in trouble when he let Silva pummel for under hooks along the fence. The speed difference was enormous.

Nogueira saying that jiu-jitsu is a Brasilian art made me laugh. Well why does it have a Japanese name? How did it get to Brasil? Oh right, because a Japanese 4th Dan taught Carlos Gracie judo and whatever he picked up on the pro wrestling circuit. That's how this Brasilian art found its way home.

maia need a top guy now dhk and story were very tough solid fighters and he ran through them give him a koscheck, elllenberger, pierece, fitch type next

Fitch vs Maia has the potential to be a candidate for grappling fight of the year.

It needs to happen! One has perhaps the greatest submission defense in UFC history, and the other is perhaps one of greatest pure grapplers in UFC history.

I swear Silva embarrasses everyone he faces, except for Sonnen. He's the only one he can't clown around with in the Octagon and has to take seriously.

Well I'd say getting caught that first fight and then smashing Sonnen after he whiffed on a spinning backfist was pretty embarrassing for Sonnen.

I don't think Anderson could clown a certain bus driver from Cleveland. He might be goin to jail if he did.
