Why would he do a catchweight when he's fought at 205 before? Silva was talking about moving up to Heavyweight a few years ago.

Simply because Silva is as much a 205lb fighter as GSP is a 185lb fighter. Both may weigh more than each weight class when not in camp, however once camp comes both fighters weights naturally drop down to within 5lbs-15lbs depending on how the camp went, of each of their divisions weight meaning they only cut so much in water.

I'm sure Silva could fight Jones at 205lbs, however in my opinion if you are gonna do a superfight you should have it kinda in the middle between the 2 weight classes to make it a little more fair on both fighters.

I believe Dana White said something along the lines of Anderson Silva will NEVER fight at heavyweight unless he completely cleans out the LHW division of challengers first.

Do Shogun and Belfort have dissimilar grappling styles? Yes. I won't dispute that. Rua loves to sweep his opponents, search for leglocks, and escape underneath the opponent's guard. Belfort's style differs considering he's the far more active grappler on his back, but I wouldn't proclaim Belfort to be the superior grappler between the two. Rua has a few impressive credentials himself.

Personally, I wouldn't know. I have not really seen enough of either fighter grappling in fights that would give me the ability to make a credible judgement on who's grappling serves them best in MMA.

Great might have been the wrong choice. Perhaps, serviceable is the more accurate term to define Jones' submission defense. I would concede that Jon's abnormally long limbs serve him well in the striking realm, but also gives him a disadvantage on the ground against a skilled grappler. His elbow attacks absolutely leave him open to submissions but I'd argue that so does everything else. It's a risk but it's paid off for Jones significantly.

I'd agree far more with that wording. I'm sure he is perfectly capable of defending alot of submission attempts, however based upon the positions I've seen him put himself in I think against a skilled grappler, which Vitor was, he could find himself in alot of danger if he postures up like he does. I mean if people think Jon Jones has great submission defense attributes, then Brock Lesnar must have the best submission defense in MMA history given that in his 2nd fight with Mir he pretty much did everything you'd expect of someone trying to prevent submission attempts all the while smashing Mir's face in.

Did Jon get lucky the other night? In my opinion, no. As quick as Vitor locked in that armbar, I still felt that Jones was going to posture up and power through the submission attempt, and he did. Jon's size and strength played a factor. So while Belfort is a talented BJJ practitioner, I never once believed that Jones was going to get submitted by Vitor. I'm not saying it'll never happen but Jon's size, strength and wrestling background will make it immensely difficult for any fighter to make him tap out [on their back].

I'd have to disagree with this though, while you do make good points, if you are caught in an armbar which is tight enough to be putting Jones in as much pain as his face seemed to tell at the time, you should consider yourself lucky to escape.

I dunno, even though he is a wrestler & his one of the strongest LHW's on the UFC roster I don't think he'd be any difficult to submit than any other LHW. Typically wrestlers are usually submitted by the same sort of moves alot of the time triangles & guillotines are probably up top with armbars being next followed lastly by perhaps rear naked chokes. I don't think I'll ever see Jones get submitted by a guillotine or a rear naked choke that has come about after he has taken someone down, however I could definatly see him getting caught in a triangle or armbar if he doesn't keep his chest closer to his opponent when he is in the guard.

Strikeforce cancels the event that was supposed to take place this Saturday.

How is someone who weighs over 220 lbs a natural Middleweight?

^another genius who doesn't understand walk around weight

he is 220 when he isn't training

you act like he cuts from 220 to 185 on fight week lol

How is someone who weighs over 220 lbs a natural Middleweight?

He swells up to about 215lbs-220lbs when he isn't in camp/training regularly ie when he is on holiday. Once he starts his camp the weight naturally falls off him & his weight falls to maybe 195lbs-200lbs just with him getting in shape again. He then cuts 10lbs-15lbs the final day or two before the fight in body water.

When GSP isn't in shape, which isn't that often, he walks around at about 195lbs or so from what I've heard. He then drops about 15lbs just getting in shape, & cuts the remaining 10lbs in bodyweight to make welterweight.

Jon Jones is the same, he weighs 235lbs I believe he wrote on his Twitter before the Dan Henderson camp & that was him during a holiday sort of mode.

About time... but I'm not putting any faith in this fight.

Not gonna believe this fight'll happen until fight night. Too many injuries. But if it does happen, GSP by TKO.

Why the heck is Condit posing with that fake belt.. it makes it seem like it's a champion vs champion fight. Interim titles aren't real titles as far as I am concerned.

Can't wait to see GSP crush Condit like a grape.

Yeah, interim titles are basically #1 contender fights. Especially when dudes refuse to defend those fake titles.

Don't take it so seriously. GSP was on the shelf for a long time so they made an interim title. By circumstance, Condit ended up being allowed to wait to fight GSP. So them's the breaks.

It's a good fight and I'm looking forward to it. UFC 154 is a great card.

Condit was going to fight Diaz again until he failed the drug test. Condit also said that he would fight, but the UFC wanted him to wait on GSP.

Condit actually said he only would've fought if GSP wasn't going to be ready by a certain time like November. UFC didn't tell him to wait.

I'm trying to find the Fuel interview he did where he said that, but here's an interview where he says that the UFC didn't offer him any other fight.

This is after he accepted the fight with Diaz before the drug test suspension.

E-Man, UFC not offering him another is not the same thing as telling him to wait.

But Condit did make his intention clear that he wanted the GSP fight unless he was going to be out longer than November.

Last night I saw a commercial for Silva vs Bonner. Stephan Bonner. Lmao, do they actually expect people to buy that farce? That fight's a goddamn joke, a bigger joke than Jones/Belfort.

it's bonnar lol

silva may not fight for very much longer the man is 37

just enjoy watching this living legend while we still have him

Bonner, Bonnar, *****, who gives a f-, he's a can, and the fight is a joke. This is a glorified sparring session at best.

They should put the Fuel fights on Facebook. Sucks that I just get to watch the prelims.

Yeah, I don't have FUEL either. And that sucks, because I want to see these fights.

What are you talking about the Jones/Belfort fight was an excellent fight.

People get too caught up in the rankings. A fight is a fight and anything can happen. Serra smacked GSP around. Upsets happen all the time and even Jon Jones almost got submitted. This is a short notice fight, and people should be glad that Anderson stepped up and took it. Yeah, Anderson will most likely win in devastating fashion, but oh well, we get some great action nonetheless.

Boxing has never been about rankings either, it's all about who talks the most ****, who is most popular & who will give each fighter the biggest payday. At least the UFC vaguely tries to stick with an unofficial sort of ranking system when it can.

Vitor was on a hot streak as well, had lost something like 1 fight in his last 9 & that was to the P4P best Anderson Silva, so in truth Jones fighting Vitor was the only choice unless you want to see Machida get a title shot after 1 victory over boring ass Ryan Bader.. which I don't.
