So i am thinking it will happen to the 90s characters at some point..Gambit WILL have his day again...hopefully with a better designed costume and more offensive weapons than a deck of playing cards.

Here's hoping

I got #229 today and if you've seen the previews, you'll see that there's not anything spectacular or even "shocking" about it. It's a bit disappointing to say the least. I hope #230 will be better.

Gambit, much like Cable and Bishop..well moreso Cable than Bishop. seeing as they have very effectively and seemingly permanently ruined his character to tell a subpar story..are 90s creations that won't go away..actually I think Gambit was in the late 80s.

But he has proven himself to be quite popular and mentioned more than many an X-Men mainstay..like Colossus and Nightcrawler and Shadowcat(may she stay 'gone')....perhaps when we get into the 20teen(2010,2011, etc) we will see a resurgance of 90s characters much like we are the 80s characters now...the friggin New Mutants (ALL of them) Dazzler, Longshot, the characters in Necrosha..the 80s are back!

This IS possible... One of the big reasons the 80s characters are getting so much play right now is because a lot of the writers in the X-Office grew up reading during the 80s... So a few years down the road, when the writers that were readers in the 90s show up in town, they'll get their chance to pimp out their favorites.

Hopefully Gambit will be among them.

Amen.

What is Gambit's relationship with Cable? Have they ever had anything to do with each other outside their brief stint on the same team in Revolution? I didnt read early Cable and missed all of Gambit's books. Im actually interesting in seeing them team up

no you were right the first time, Gambit came in the 90s.
1990 to be exact. I have Uncanny #266! :awesome:

And Gambit's such a well-liked character. It's only a matter of time before someone who likes him starts writing comics. That's the way I see it anyway.

From what I recall, they haven't crossed paths much at all. I think a team up could be fun if done by the right writer. Gambit can be as smart alecky as Deadpool at times.

i dont see Gambit and Cable spending much time together at all.

You know people said the same thing about Cable and Deadpool as well but then they went and had a 50 issue comic run together which was twice as long as any of Gambit's series. He and Gambit seem to be a better fit than Deapool. Id love to see the two of them in at least a mini. Should be fun for a short team up.

Here's a pic of the two, I found. I didnt realize that Gambit appeared in that series

Skottie Young is teh awesome

and I dunno, I could understand a pairing of Deadpool and Cable when their title was announced..they had a history already...that and they were both creations of Liefield..i was hoping that they were pairing them up to both be killed..but that title was shockingly good.

Musta been part of the Mutant Messiah crossover, it wasn't a team up at all.

Lucky, lol! I've seen it go for about £20 on Ebay. Sometimes more. I guess it must be really collectable by now. I'd love to get my hands on it! :woot:

As for the Cable/Gambit team-up idea, I think it would be fun. Cable and Gambit have never really interacted at all. Gambit's a slick talker (like Deadpool) and Cable is a "badass". Wouldn't they make a great team?! I think it would be good if done correctly.

So true-I've mentioned the exact same thing on another board! Which is a shame, really...I grew up with the 80's X Men, and will always have a soft spot for Storm and Nightcrawler, but my favorites of the last 15+ years have been 90's characters such as Gambit and Deadpool, and I am enjoying even newer ones such as Dust.

Does anyone have any theory on all the Gambit hate since the late 90's by writers? Carey at least seems to like the Cajun, but there has been some terrible characterization and storyline thrown Gambit's way since Antartica...Is it Rogue envy? Does he remind writers of the guy who stole their high school crushes? Do they dislike him because he has possibly the largest female fan base of any Marvel character?

Oh, and as for the recent Legacy appearance of Remy-talk about out of character! I'm putting down his temper tantrum to the fact that he is pissed of at Cyke for putting Rogue in a deadly situation without letting Gambit have a chance at getting some nookie in first, now that she can control her powers:cwink:

I wouldn't call it Gambit hate, more like Gambit indifference and treating him as a C-lister as opposed to the B lister he actually is. I think no one has any real good ideas of what to do with him. I just wish they would stop mangling him in the meantime until someone does. :(

i think i'd rather see a gambit and sunfire book instead of gambit and cable.

Carey talks Rogue and Magneto

Now that Rogue's one-time lover Magneto has returned to the X-Men's world, the two will share a reunion in this X-Necrosha tie-in as well.

"With Magneto back in the X-Men fold, it was inevitable that he and Rogue would meet again, and-sooner or later-be in the same team," notes Carey. "The question is whether anything beyond that still exists between them, and it's fair to say that Rogue and Magneto see the situation somewhat differently from each other. But yeah, there are sparks waiting to fly here, in good ways and bad ways."

the last time she saw Magneto she was practically throwing herself at him but he wouldnt change for her which killed any relatinoship they could have had. I dont think much will happen here but Im glad Carey is going to explore it, bc he was someone sgnificant from her past. I just hope he doesnt wuss Magneto out like he has with Gambit when it comes to Rogue

geez...this dude is starting to sound Claremontian(ie: sad, pathetic) in his obsession for Rogue....the book truly IS hers now...only titled X-Men..so that it will sell and avoid cancellation like all her prior attempts.

I am starting to think that he only did the Xavier arc to hide his real intentions for the book..as he slid her into Xavier's arc at midpoint.

I dont like the bit about Proteus being brought back for her considering he was dead before she was even created. Im hoping he gets to face off with Colossus (who should be appearing in Necrosha) and not just Rogue

if they bring proteus back then i want holocaust brought back too...AND sugar man...and Post.

Basic storyline: Proteus shows up. Proteus pwns some people. Rogue somehow borrows his powers and narrowly defeats him. The other X-Men get cameo level roles.

Call me a cynic and a Carey-hater if you want (seriously, both are true, so feel free...), but that's precisely how I feel that book will go. We're dealing with a writer who probably conceived this whole story without ever going back and re-reading the Proteus bit just to make sure he could accurately portray the character... He just wanted another uber-powered villain for Rogue to beat down.

And to EvilClareToo:

The Gambit "hate" among writers is simple: In the late 90s we had a lot of former 70s readers in the office, and now it's 80s readers. Those readers despised the 90s and considered everything about them trash. And while Marvel in the 90s was certainly bad, a lot of good characters/stories are forgotten by mindless 90s thrashers.

I don't see anything about Proteus being brought back specifically for Rogue, so I don't know where that complaint is coming from, but the complaints that Rogue will single handedly beat Proteus are getting old too. She can't touch him for one, so her power is pretty useless. Unless she borrows Colossus' powers herself, she can't do much, plus the solicits have a specific team going up against him, so it's not like they won't do anything either.

legend..the 90s were not bad AT ALL...they were the pinnacle of the X-Men's success....the only thing that sucked about the 90s X-men were the twelve and alan davis
