oh my, i'm becoming a songwriter

lol i don't really know at this point. it's been a long time since i've listened to lisa loeb. never heard of nine stories.

Nine Stories was her back-up band when she originally came out with her first album. After she got some fame, I think she dumped them and went on her own and picked up some stray instrumentalists along the way.

I haven't heard her sing in a long time either, but it kinda reminded me of stuff from her first album, which I really dug.

well, when myspace and vu.union.edu decide to stop being little b*tches my new song is up there. i recorded it with my dad yesterday night and this morning. my dad did the guitar solo, not really my style or what i envisioned for the song but i gave him a creative license as i was using his recording setup and stuff. it sounds good in my opinion but not the exact feel i wanted. one day when i can jam on the guitar that well i'll do my own

here are the links.
the first one will hopefully show up at my myspace site (link in sig)
the second one is it at:

I thought Marshmallow Catapault was pretty good. I haven't been able to get the other one that you just did yet, but you're pretty good. Again, you really remind me of Lisa Loeb.

ok two new songs up. fragments as mentioned before is now available and i added a sample of a song i wrote yesterday called "october". well i wrote the music yesterday. the lyrics have existed since october.

i posted a new song this morning. it's the full length of october. this one's been in production since the end of december. i'll probably rerecord it when i have proper equipment and a better guitar with a fuller sound (rather than my baby taylor) but for now this will suffice

Very nice Babs.

How long did it take you to write this one?

[Sting]A song...is never finished.[/Sting]
Sting also said "I'm bored with music between 1955 and 1980. I'm completely bored. I can't listen to a rock aand roll record. I can't do it. I would rather listen to hogs screwing", so he's clearly a bit mental.

there's a big chance Sting was just trying to be interesting.
or justifying his embarrassing descent into Kenny G territory with bring on the the night.

Retract that statement for he is NOT the mental one!

You have a beautiful voice but the words do seem to get lost in the melody in my opinion.

Well, I'm at school so I can't listen to the music...

But you're damned beautiful, I think.

I always had a thing for redheads, heh.

It took me an hour or two to write it and 8 hours or so to record it all in all. It was a quick one.

No doubt about it, you're incredibly talented, I love it.

Say if you ever need some moody saxophone, you know where to find me ;)

Wow... That voice is angelic.

It sounds like a voice you'd hear on a Lord of the Rings or King Arthur-type movie's soundtrack.

I love it.

Did you sing the harmonies, or did you use a pitch shift?

And what did you use to record your songs?

I sang all the harmonies. There's only three vocal parts in there. I used garage band on my iMac G5, a firewire M-Audio fast track and a Shure SM-58.

For instruments I just used an acoustic guitar, a set of bongos and a software synth. :)

 on the harmonies.

As far as recording goes: You might want to ditch the Firewire M-Audio and go for a Prosonus Firepod instead. The SM 58 is good for vocals, but you might want to use a 57 for the bongos next time.

But don't pay any attention to ^ that, unless you want to get really serious about recording.

i think i'm good as far as my recording equipment goes. the m-audio fast track came highly recommended for the occasional recording. i also understand that the sm 58 is really a live vocal mic, but i can't afford a real recording mic and it does the job a mite better than my imac mic (all my other songs were recorded on my old built in ibook mic).

Thanks the praise on the harmonies. Sometimes I tend to overdo it with them but perhaps not this time.

Yeah, no problem.

A lot of singers have a had time getting certain harmonies. I think it adds another dynamic to the song.

Harmonies are cool -- as long as you're not trying to sound like Firehouse.
