Oh my gosh you have to get into it. Either imagesearch atompunk or type it into Facebook and join the group. It’s glorious. There’s a whole bunch of them too like dieselpunk but atompunk is my fave. Even better than steampunk!

I mean imagine if the fantasticar looked like this

The one on the right I mean, not the woman.

 Now that I know the term, I'll definitely do some research. I've always enjoyed 'futuristic' things from the past. Like people in the '40s imagining what space exploration would look like.

This bust would be good for giving Marvel an idea of how Ben should look in live action.

Something I just thought of - When Ben moves it should sound like rocks sliding/grinding together. Someone with a rocky hide wouldn't be silent when they moved any part of their body.

My first choice cast:

Oscar Isaac as Reed

Evan Rachel Wood as Sue

David Harbour as Ben

Cole Sprouse as Johnny

But I'm open to changes. I'm excited for who Marvel will pick as their casting is usually great.
I really like your choices for Ben and Sue

 I like that design.

They did do some sound effects in 2005, not necessarily from simple movement, but when he's brushing the pigeon poop off his shoulder, they've got some sound effects (and I think there may have been some other sounds in that same scene).

I think it's an interesting idea, but it would have to be done sparingly. If they use it throughout the movie, it could become an annoying distraction.

Yeah it definitely should be subtle and not overused otherwise it would be distracting.

Reed Richards - Adam Scott

Sue Storm - Lizzy Caplan

Ben Grimm - Seth Rogan

Johnny Storm - Dacre Montgomery

Dr. Doom - Dan Stevens

Mole-man - Tom Hanks

Wanted to share this cover by Jae Lee because it's simple but shows the teams personality in one image. It's the type of thing I'd love as the poster for a FF film

Reed tinkering away at a crazy machine
Johnny goofing off on top of it
Ben using his strength to hold it all up
Sue protecting the entire team with her force-field while looking cool as hell

I just really love it. The Fantastic Four posters should be more interesting than the heroes standing around and posing like other movie posters.

Do you guys have any ideas for posters and stuff? Maybe a cover or a homage to particular art from something else?

That poster looks great. I wouldn't mind a homage to Fantastic Four #1.

The only one who shouldn't be changed is Ben as his blue eyes and Jewish heritage are important. His blue eyes are important because it's the only thing about him that still looks human, him being Jewish goes without saying.

However, he could always be Israeli. Still Jewish and still with blue eyes.

Reed, Sue, and Johnny can be any race (with Sue and Johnny being the same as they're siblings). My only thing is to get the hair like their comic counterparts. Reed needs to have the dark hair with graying temples, Sue and Johnny should be blond no matter what race they go for. Time to bring out the hair dye!

Using one of your fancasts, here is Constance Wu with blonde hair and she looks great:

My only issue with your cast is Johnny and Ben. Johnny is because the actor is too old and Ben needs to be Jewish.

Ben doesn’t have to be Jewish. As long as he’s still part of a marginalized group, he’s good to go. I still say Terry Crews is my #1 pick for him.

I don’t agree. It’s not about being ‘marginalized’ as much as it’s about being part of a specific ethnic group in a city in which that ethnic group has produced some of out most beloved comedians... as well as an iconic duo of comic book creators. That key ethnic group hasn’t even yet been suggested to exist in the cinematic world that was started by those said creators.

To not make Ben Jewish would be a slap in the face to Jack Kirby who stealthily made Ben Jewish at a time in which, if he had made him more overtly Jewish, there might have been backlash.

I would like a Jewish Ben. I’m all for diversity on the team and he doesn’t necessarily need to be a Caucasian Jew but I think it would be wonderful to honour both Stan and jack and his golem origins. Plus a Jewish badass superhero would be awesome instead of always being the geeky weedy one or comic relief

I like it. Do you think that brand of range might be a bit strong for on screen though?

See the trick is animating his eyes. Giving them life, not making him look deadeyed. Used to be a massive problem with games but after seeing how alive the eyes looked in Spider-Man on the ps4 I think they’ve got it.

I think it all comes down to the skill of the animators. As you can sort of see in that bust itself - which conveys some clear emotion - it's not really the eyes, but the facial movements around the eyes.

... but that raises another point that concerns me. For Ben to move, express etc., and for the "rocks" to remain solid, he needs enough "rocks" with enough gaps around those rocks that he can move. I don't know if there are enough joints in that specific bust to allow enough movement for expression without bending the "rocks".

This. His humour comes from Jewish humour, which is typified by making jokes about your hardship and difficult situation. The Jews have a long history of being persecuted, being in exile, etc. That's where that particular brand of humour comes out of, which is so typical to Ben Grimm.

Making him black or some other nationality changes who he is intrinsically. But you can bet that if he were black in the first place, no-one would ever be suggesting to make him Jewish now or any other race/ group.

It's not about being marginalized, that's not Ben's history. Ben is one of the very few Jewish superheroes and likely the most popular. His Jewish heritage is important, you don't get rid of one diverse character to create another as that defeats the point. If anyone of the team should not be race changed it's Ben.

I think is the best candidate for a race change if that's what Marvel is going to go for.

I never wanted that bust completely copied, just used as a reference. The prominent brow, button nose, and ape-like mouth area are what's important imo. I think that the bust is good way to visualize it in 3d, it definitely shouldn't be exactly copied for many reasons.

Korg from Thor Ragnarok was done really well, but his facial features were lost among all the rocks.

That's why Ben's need to be so prominent, so that his face isn't lost in the rocky hide and we can see him emote. Because Ben won't be the comic relief that's only occasionally seen like Korg, he'll be one of the main characters. Ben's blue eyes would stand out from his orange hide and make it slightly eaiser to see his eyes, Korgs eyes are almost lost in his rock face. That's another reason Ben should not be the one race-changed. He calls himself "The Ever-lovin' Blue-eyed Thing", it's an important part of the character that shouldn't be lost.

Looking more at Korg, that's the height I want for Ben (some may disagree) but he should much wider than Korg. Almost double his width.

Yeah, I watched Korg very closely with this in mind, and I felt like he was a "good start", but I'm hoping they'll get a lot better before they try to do Ben.

I do want Ben to be broad and bulky, but I think 'double Korg's width' might be overdoing it.

I keep going back to this as very close to the design I'd like for Ben:

thingbust.jpg

I'd like that general body shape with an about 6.5' height. I want to be careful about making him too big, because he has to be able to function. And if he's 7-8 feet tall and also very wide as some artists have drawn him, he won't be able to fit in a cab etc.

Double the size of Korg is definitely an extreme exaggeration, but he should be wider than Korg and Hulk.

It shouldn't be impossible for him to get around New York, but he should be a size where it's extremely difficult.

Him being wider than hulk in live action is too much. Imo.

Idk it also needs to be in relation to everyone else on screen. I'm not advocating that he be small by any means though.

Definitely want Ben to be bigger than the Chiklis version. 7' feet imo. Only a little shorter than Hulk

Well Hulk in the MCU is about 9 feet. I don't want him only a little shorter than that. I certainly don't want him the height he was in Fant4stic. Taller than Chiklis (who was too short) but shorter than Jamie Bell's version.

7 feet is Hulk's traditional comic height. If Grimm is about 6'5" to 6'8", that would be fine.
