Apocalypse Oscar Isaac IS Apocalypse - Part 1

Hated his look when I first saw him during SDCC and nothing has changed....

At normal height ApocINO should still tower over all his horsemen. And honestly his monolog doesn't sound much different than what Magneto preaches every film while spitting Xavier.

I guess some people who didn't like his look at first glance are warming up now because they basically don't have a choice. Singer's gonna do what ever he wants. So thank heavens for other CBM options next May....

Yeah can't wait to see Zemo in all his glory, complete with the mask and sword...........

Oscar Issac is going to be brilliant in this role, he is bringing another side to Apocalypse and I love it.

Complaints never end.

But he just looks like some old fart, I'm really sorry, but he does...

I bet you've seen these images a hundred times, but here's some menacing and awesome looking Apocalypse right there... I really like the film version of his costume, the ornate plates, etc., but I think his mask could have been done much better, as you can see...

But in the end, I think it will grow on me...

I really hate when people post that Apocalypse cosplay. Only because I think it looks so bad. But, it's cosplay. So I can forgive it.

All the people who made such efforts to say Apocalypse looks like lame characters and people spending so much time arguing and Photoshopping and whatnot, nobody even grasped at the straw that he genuinely resembles.

Particularly here

You let me down, Internet.
Personally I feel I got pretty close, save for staying more on the violet side of blue.

Johnny-Oh also got pretty close if I remember correctly.

In regards to that Apocalypse cosplay; it looks horrible, and makes me question the intelligence of people who use it as a good example of what they want.

You mix up two things. Intelligence and taste. The fact that people don't like the same things as you do does not mean they are stupid.

And let's pretend that this ad hominem never happened, because I want to believe I'm here amongst people who are able to lead reasonable and classy discussion.

edit: Grammar.

I don't hate the cosplay but I genuinely think that it wouldn't fit in the movie and it would give a cartoon air to it. Isaac's Apocalypse really makes me believe it came from a long time sleep and kinda matches with the other characters.

I do like that he can look blue or gray (or purple) depending on the lighting.

As for his size...I'm over it. It's obvious they want him not to appear all that menacing, that they want him to be deceptively dangerous, more seductive and manipulative than an obvious evildoer/threat. Conceptually, I think that's going to be a lot more compelling than an eight foot tall evil muppet monster who gives speeches after he's terrified people into working for him.

We also haven't really seen him in a fight yet.

Yes to this.

In no way is this Apocalypse "In name only"? The only thing they seem to be ignoring is his time travel. And I say "seem" because there are obviously many details that haven't been disclosed. We don't know how they'll handle his backstory. All we know is that he has a survival of the fittest philosophy and wants to destroy and reshape the world (how? - we've yet to find out). This fits with the character.

Recruiting his horsemen like a cult leader, offering them something in return, when they're down on their life/luck:

And his monologue is very much an Apocalypse monologue...

Talking about names he's been given in the past:

Destroying the world and building a better one (in TAS he says in his image, and with him as the ruler, but it's pretty much the same goal):

If he was a Magneto knockoff he would just be asking for mutants to rule over humans because humans are inferior. If you reached that conclusion you must know something we don't.

Yeah, it's pretty clear to anyone familiar with the books that they're sticking close to Apocalypse's narrative and philosophy. I love that they're using "Only the strong will survive" as a tagline, too.

Yup, and he's so soft spoken when he calls them "his children"...
lets face it to a world that still hasn't warmed up to Mutants, and due to his accolades his pitch would sound pretty awesome.

I also don't think he's telling recruits "we're gonna commit mass genocide" more like "We'll remove your chains of oppression". He's banking on once they see the success of their terrorism that the power and success will seduce them while he subdues the planet.

I just love his calm and inviting tone.

I'm glad they didn't waste Isaac's talent under too much prostethics or CGI.

Yea, I hope it will turn out as you write here, i.e. that it's a deliberate move to make him look more like an older rhetorically charismatic cult leader than potentially shallow "I look so evil" guy.

I love his voice. You can tell he'll be able to seduce people to go on his side.

Have you seen the first 3 films? If so then you should know the same things that I do. In all 3 Magneto almost wiped out humanity and didn't really seem to loose any sleep on it until his future version was dying in DOFP.

As for the ApocINO conclusion, in no way does that thing in the trailer remind me of the character in those panels you've shared. William Dafoe's Green Goblin got a pass for the crappy Power Ranger suit because of his overall performance. No one denies his portrayal of Normand Osborne.

Ooze-pocalypse on the other hand is in no ways En Sabah Nur-ish. Even if you're not familiar with the 90's cartoon version. There was that "Rise of Apocalypse" RPG not too long ago that shows him as an imposing bruiser. And making Magneto a Horseman is just WRONG!

It's should've been the Brotherhood and the X-men against Apocalypse and his Horsemen give or take a couple other minions on his side to make it balanced.

Instead we're just getting the same characters we've been getting for the last 15 years and then they question why people grow weary.

Magneto was a Horseman in X-Men Evolution. The movies don't just adapt the comics, they take inspiration from all X-men media.

We're getting a ton of new characters though. Archangel, Psylocke, Jubilee, Quicksilver (I'm counting him cos he was only in DOFP for a short while). I don't think people, well the mainstream audience anyway, are weary based on the trailer reactions.

I still don't care for his size, and his voice is turrrible.... but the touches on the armor are pretty cool, and color correction and CG obv helped a bit

but to say he's Apocalypse 'INO' is definitely a reach, he's as close to his comic counterpart as Ronan or Malekith were

and come to think of it, that's the vibe I'm getting for Apoc
that he'll be a cool looking (well, depending on your opinion) but occasionally cheesy and forgettable villain with bland-even-though-they're-overly-ambitious motivations

Magneto tried to wipe humans out in X2 only, so this suggestion he did it in all 3 is nonsense I am afraid Starscream.

By 90's I was referring to the Fox animated version. I hated Evolution so despite the fact that you accept the lineup due to the fact that you have no choice anyway... Would you have preferred 3 new mutants to go along with Arch Angle or not?
