I certainly hope you're right but I've been burned twice now. Giving him the benefit of the doubt again is just something I'm unable to do. He's never made me care for any character in his movies beyond Rorschach. But hey, maybe lowered expectations will help.
And for the record: I take no pleasure whatsoever in piling on the hate towards the DCEU. I've garnered quite the reputation for being a hater, but it comes from a passionate, sincere love for this genre.

I still expect to see his ego printed into JL though, they worked on it before reviews for BvS came out.
Some folks included me into the anti-DC comics circle simply for hating BvS and being uncertain about my desire to watch Suicide Squad.

Yeah, thus far (still in Book 2) I've been really enjoying it. I think my favorite aspect is how he handles the trio (Pete, MJ and May). So good! Also love how the Spider or Man concept going on.

He did great with all of these.
I think you should know about his lack of use of supporting characters is cause he didn't want them to overshadow the main cast. If you didn't already know that.
