Homecoming Out with the amazing and in with the Marvel Lounge - Part 10

I do remember when Slott would come on these boards, specifically around BND. I remember him being rather rude and dismissive. It seemed a bit petty for a professional.

Then I remembered some of his posts. He wasn't always rude, but sometimes got into it with some posters that seemed odd for a professional. I decided he was best to let his work speak for himself instead of arguing on a message board.

Woah woah, Dan Slott was on these boards? Wow'za. Any way you could provide me with his posts if it's not too much trouble? Very interested.

awful status quo of awful new villains and awful new supporting cast.

Disregarding the rest of your statement, this is purely a matter of opinion and I'm not sure you're in the overall majority (though you certainly are in this thread).

Personally, I liked the mayoral race stuff and the supporting cast here more than the Horizon supporting cast from later on during Big Time.

I've never been a huge fan of Slott's work. I did like that Peter's life did evolve a little, but he never seemed to mature as a character. I despise Superior Spider-Man and didn't even finish reading it. While certainly his best writing, I just couldn't get into Ock.

I think most of my dislike came from my interactions with Slott during the first couple of months of it's publication. I used to frequent Comic Vine, where I had expressed my dislike for the book's writing, as I wasn't digging it, only to come under fire by Slott who could only defend his book by insults and throwing the book's numbers as justification.

This happened on several occasions, and he continued to twist my words, so I decided since I already wasn't liking it, I wouldn't support it any more or any other Dan Slott Spider-Man book. Only reason I bought the final issue was because I wanted the J. Scott Campbell variant from Midtown Comics.

Ah, so he is in fact wishy-washy with fans. Pretty disheartening, if I'm being honest.

Yeah, he use to post in the Spider-Man Comics or Marvel Comics section of these boards. Sorry, I'm not savvy enough to find his posts. Maybe someone else?

Naturally, it's my opinion. You are entitled to your opinion. The mayor stuff wasn't bad, a way to keep JJJ relevant as newspaper circulation declines. But, the status quo, being a single loser slacker, supporting cast, like Carlie and the chick who turned out to Menace, Michelle Rodrigez, her brother, etc and all the new villains except for Mr. Negative didn't do it for me.

Pretty much. He was very condescending, has a hard time taking criticism, and many of his responses were very childish. If I was to say "I don't like the book for reasons x, y, and z", he would come back with something like "Well you aren't writing the book and I am so therefore you're wrong. You can't even disagree with that because look at all the books I've sold so ha!".

I mean obviously that's slightly exaggerated, but they'd basically be long winded posts that could be summed up like that.

That's a shame.

I love Dan Slott and I think that him, Gerry Conway and Stan Lee are the best Spider-Man writers of all time. That is all.

No mention of Peter David, Tom Defalco, Roger Stern, Paul Jenkins, or a number of great writers to work on the character?
Read Sensational Spider-Man v2 if you haven't, and tell me what you think of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as a Spidey scribe.

Laura Ziskin, Cliff Robertson, Randy Savage, and now Bill Nunn.
:csad:

RIP, Bill.

Damn, I hate 2016, why does it keep taking so many great and awesome people from us. :csad:

That's why we must try to make it great.

I think 2016, unfortunately, is the year of death. Not just in regards to celebrities, but my family as well.

RIP Bill. Thank you for bringing Robbie Robertson to the big screen.

Damn, sorry to hear that, man. Totally know how bad it feels to lose someone close in the family unexpectedly. Hope you and your fam are doing well.

Dan Slott is notoriously rude online when criticized. I like some of his writing (and hate some of it as well) but he's definitely got a fragile ego.

Yes please lol. Stern is practically a spider-god, DeFalco did some awesome work (love him & Frenz!), Jenkins did some great and less meh/bad. Even JMS had some awesome stories, and don't even get me started on how AMAZING J.M. DeMatteis is!

As a matter of fact, JMD may be the most underrated Spider-Man writer ever considering what he has given us, where it's held in canon, and the lack of recognition he gets for his work.

Sorry to hear this. Losing loved ones is never easy.

His run on Amazing is nothing special, but his work on Spectacular in both runs is really awesome.

Well, to be fair, he was thrust onto Amazing in the middle of the Clone Saga... not exactly anyone's best work.

Although near the beginning, he delivered the monumental ASM #400, one of the best Spider-Man single issues ever IMO.

Shame it was undone during that Gathering of the Five crap.
