Part III (Spoiler Thread)

Star Wars animation (TCW, Rebels, and Bad Batch) make up the bulk of Star Wars "prequel" material. Which is wild to think about.

Best scene of the series so far. Vader massacring the street and Obi-Wan's "He's coming, Master" (the meditation/Vader assembling scene) following.

EDIT: For what it's worth, this was the scene where Obi-Wan describes what he remembers of his family to Leia.

Once again....this show surprises me. I am really digging it. Good to have a prequel that doesn't suck!

I'm enjoying the show, but come on. Nothing so far even reaches the heights of Revenge of the Sith.

This is true. I haven't watched any of the series outside the one time I tried watching the Clone Wars movie and gave up after 15 minutes lol. My Star Wars experience is the live action stuff and some comics

Well if you ever want to give it another try and the early material isn't really your bag (which I totally get), there are a few of us Star Wars animation nerds that can recommend some of the later stuff.

My "prequel" rankings:

1. Rebels
2. Solo
3. TCW
4. Bad Batch
5. RotS
6. TPM
7. AotC
8. Rogue One

Curious to see where Obi-Wan and then Andor end up.

That episode was rad. Loved Vader going all sadistic on Obi-Wan and the citizens in that town. THAT is the Vader I wanted and I’m glad we got him. And I really like how his presence (whether he’s there or not) haunts Obi-Wan. That scene where he sees a vision of him was unsettling as hell.

Also really enjoyed Indira Varma’s character. I hope we see a lot more of her and get more of her backstory.

We also got a little more insight into Reva and how she is emboldened by the flame of ambition. I’m sure that there is even more to her than that but even if there isn’t, I’m still rooting for her over the other Inquisitors to climb the Empire corporate ladder. The Fifth Brother is really starting to piss me off so I wouldn’t mind seeing Reva mop the floor with him.

One nitpick… terrible puppetry job on Freck or whatever his name was. If you want me to believe that’s a real alien and not just some guy in a Spencer Gifts Halloween mask, then his mouth movements should match his dialogue lol. Luckily he wasn’t in it enough to totally ruin things.

My "prequel" rankings:

1. Rebels
2. Solo
3. TCW
4. Bad Batch
5. RotS
6. TPM
7. AotC
8. Rogue One

Top Tier:
Rebels, TCW & RoTS

Mid
Bad Batch, Solo & Rogue One

Low;
AoTC & The PM

Three episodes in I would say OW is most certainly in the Top Tier and maybe duking it out with Rebels & TCW.

The truth be told with Andor, i'm kinda indifferent. But I think if they really do lean into the more political side of the early Rebel days then color me more intrigued.

ROTS sucked. Better than TPM or AOTC, but still sucked

Yessss

Honestly, I think ROTS might be the worst prequel. To be clear, they all suck, but the way they make Padme just a crying sap in ROTS is particularly s***ty, after we’ve seen her be a badass leader and warrior in the previous films. And that line towards the end about how she’s in perfect health and yet is somehow also DYING might be the worst bit of dialogue in the entire series.

I dont know, any line by Jar Jar in TPM was pretty painful

I find the "we don't know enough about Reva to be interested in her" comments strange. People didn't know jack about Moff Gideon, but were drooling over him the moment Esposito appeared on screen.

That’s because he was played by Esposito. He barely did anything in Mando season one but it didn’t matter because Breaking Bad fans were just stoked to see him as a villain in the show.

I would take recommendations
You've opened up a rabbit hole you don't want to go down. But I'm gonna anyway. :o Some Clone Wars ones as they're easy to pull out of sequence due to the show's structure.

1. Domino Squad (3.01, 1.05, 3.02)
2. So long as you get the gist of Ahsoka being his padawan, you can probably skip the movie if you weren't feeling it.
3. Battle of Ryloth (1.19, 1.20, 1.21)
4. Cad Bane (2.01, 2.02, 2.03)
5. The Second Battle of Geonosis (2.05, 2.06, 2.07, 2.08)
6. The Mandalore Plot (2.12, 2.13, I'd suggest just skipping 14 unless you really want to)
7. Nighsisters (3.12, 3.13, 3.14)
8. Mortis (3.15, 3.16, 3.17)
9. The Citadel (3.18, 3.19, 3.20)
10. Padawan Lost (3.21, 3.22)
11. The Battle of Umbara (4.07, 4.08, 4.09, 4.10)
12. Slaves of the Republic (4.11, 4.12, 4.13)
13. Obi-Wan Undercover (4.15, 4.16, 4.17, 4.18)
14. Ventress (4.19, 4.20)
15. Brothers (4.21, 4.22, 5.01)
16. Mauldalore (5.14, 5.15, 5.16)
17. The Jedi Who Knew Too Much (5.17, 5.18, 5.19, 5.20)
18. Orders (6.01, 6.02, 6.03, 6.04)
19. Yoda and the Force (6.11, 6.12, 6.13)
20. The Bad Batch (7.01, 7.02, 7.03, 7.04)
21. The Siege of Mandalore (7.09, 7.10, 7.11, 7.12)

I would say the animated stuff far surpasses Revenge of the Sith.

Took a screen shot and saved to my phone

I'm not big on Rogue One, so my hype for Andor surprises myself. But with Gilroy and all the location shooting. It looks like it could end up my favorite SW show so far.

I don't see what Obi-Wan Kenobi has done that's better than ROTS.
I would say the animated stuff far surpasses Revenge of the Sith.
I think it lacks the intense emotional weight, for a solid chunk, that I've seen. For Anakin, to me, particularly, he's a lame jock type of character, from I've seen.
That’s because he was played by Esposito. He barely did anything in Mando season one but it didn’t matter because Breaking Bad fans were just stoked to see him as a villain in the show.
I also think he had a more intimidating portrayal and performance.

Reva well, reminds of Kylo, more than I'd prefer, just less emotional looking. No outright fit throwing yet, or someone falling for Reva for no reason, or consuming the story, to me, yet, so she has that over Kylo at least.
