Paul Dano is Edward Nashton aka "The Riddler"

It's funny. Last night I said Bruce looks like Cesare from Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and finally seeing this image in good quality, the Riddler actually looks like the Claude Rains version of the Invisible Man:

I also realized that it was a great villain choice, they want a Batman learning the ropes and dealing with incredible situations. Batman looks already relentless and angry enough punching the thug, which I assume is due to extreme stress Riddler's mental challanges can put him through rather than just beating street trash like many other versions.

After dealing with this Batman will become an emotionally indestructible brick wall.

Paul Dano is officially going to put his stamp on this as the best bigscreen version of The Riddler IMO. He sounds and looks menacing as hell and if we get something to his performance in Prisoners that man are we in for something special. I am ready for a Zodiac/Seven inspired Riddler.

I didn’t notice this yesterday but it looks a bit like he’s wearing something like this.

Nice catch! He’s wearing it over something else though... I can’t tell if it’s another mask or if he has his had wrapped in Saran Wrap (not joking; it looks like that).

Creepiest aspect of the costume for me is that he still wears glasses over the mask.

This isn't a cool Ridler, or a hacker Riddler, as some were speculating. This is a Riddler who lives on the edges of society. Probably someone who has trouble keeping a job, lives in squalor, is a loner. That makes him much scarier, to me, than if he were wearing a tacky green suit with question marks all over it. Because he feels like he could be real.

And I hope this is it, and that he's not going to get the "real costume later on", as so many people say when it comes to the first look at a costume.

It's clear that inspiration for this Riddler is serial killer who loves to leave question marks behind. But message behind murders isnt self satisfaction in doing such crimes, but more him thinking being smart enough not to be caught while trying read about himself in newspapers under disguise of provoking "justice" or what not. My take on it.

Might be a little too Zsasz, but given the “Zodiac” of this Riddler I think it’d be creepy to see him covered in question mark scars.

Based upon Reeve’s comments about corruption and the riddles we see left (referencing lies), as well as who we can deduce may be the victims due to the newspapers, I think we may be getting a Riddler who thinks himself a vigilante. I bet he will be killing corrupt government folks. I don’t see him as a Zodiac serial killer or a Seven style sadist. I think he may be portrayed a bit more sympathetic, while also disgusting in his methods. He may be leaving clues for Batman because he sees him as an ally in his crusade, or at least someone who shares his rancor toward corruption.

At least this is what I piece together from an interview and a 2 minute teaser trailer from a movie that’s only 25% complete.

I think you're right. This is a *very* careful riddler who has thought about every angle of everything he is doing.

I also don't think is a Riddler living in squalor, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that he *is* brilliant with technology. I think the trailer is just cutting together what it can, but the implication is that he's communicating with Bruce Wayne in the Batcave, through Batman's own comms. I doubt that's what's happening - but that's how they're cutting the trailer.

So I'd expect actually a Riddler who fits in very well with society and no one in a million years would ever expect as having the double life. My guess is that Riddler is essentially doing what Batman is doing, but instead of beating up criminals, he's going after the system. He's *actually* on a budget, he's being more efficient and many times more ruthless and self-assured. I'm not sure we'll see him as sympathetic, but I think they are setting him up to be a bit of an extremist crusader in the way TDKR's Bane was supposed to be (but obviously never was).

I think he's going up against a very skilled, highly intelligent, crafty but very impulsive and improvisational Batman. Bruce is going to have to learn to be a LOT more deliberate. Riddler will teach Batman that it's not just about fury, flexibility and force, but also fierce intellect.

the vibe Im getting from the trailer make it feel like the final confrontation between him & Pattinson in the final act could Be Extraordinary, really wondering how reeves and Dano gonna pull this off, because i see crazy potential with his take.

Yeah, that's what I got from it as well. It's very much a Mask of the Phantasm scenario, where Batman and the villain are essentially trying to do the same thing, that is clean up the corruption in Gotham, only they're using opposing methods. One's a literal serial killer targeting crooked politicians and the like, while the other's an angry, impulsive, and young vigilante with a tenuous relationship with the police force.

I’m hoping we’ll get him a green suit at some point in the movie. I can appreciate a more grounded take or a design that takes inspirations from other movies, but I’d still like for Riddler to be instantly, visually recognizable as that character.
