That's a GANGSTER! If that's how Oswald Cobblepot looks in the sequel, I'd be happy. Anyway, The Penguin is not really a signifigant charater in the Batman universe, he's pretty much just a crime boss. The only reason he's 'known' in due to the old TV series.

And don't get me started on the Burton version... yuck. Penguin by name only...

They just shouldn't put him in a movie, problem solved. I mean how are they gonna make him work in the reality-based world of Nolan? If they can do the Joker, maybe they can do Penguin, but he's not even completely human. At least there's a transformation aspect with Joker, but the Penguin wouldn't work IMO, plus to be honest I don't wanna see him. But if I had to, I might want John C. Reilly maybe. He's a great actor and he could probably do it.

You really don't know anything about the Penguin character, do you? Penguin is probably one of the easiest villains to put in Nolan's more realistic films. He's a high-class mobster, who's a bit overweight and has a slightly hooked nose, what's unrealistic about that? Tim Burton's Penguin was nothing like the character of the comics. He wasn't a mutant freak raised by sewer penguins (do thsoe even exist?) He was raised by his wealthy parents, and he grew up to run an organized crime ring, while also owning a nightclub called the Iceberg Lounge. That's really not that unrealistic.

On the otherhand, I rather like the rumored British arms dealer take on the Penguin. I could see Penguin as British, as it would help to explain the way he acts and dresses. Making him an arms dealer could also be an interesting way of fitting him into the story. Beisdes, it could give them a good chance to work in his umbrella gun. Since he's a weapons dealer, he could feasibly have the means to create a gun disguised as an umbrella.

Look, the fact is Oswald Cobblepot was born with a deformity. He has become one of the most successful, sly, clever businessmen/crime bosses that Gotham City has ever seen. If you wanna see a true Penguin with action instead of reading the comic book... Batman:TAS.

:(OK. Well I'd be cool with it as long as they didn't put him as a main villain, because he doesn't have the substance that Two-Face or the Joker has IMO. They should use him like they did in the New Batman Adventures, and Roger Ebert should play him when he gets out of the hospital.

 :down

Are you serious.

Roger Ebert for Penguin= :down

Philip Seymour Hoffman for Penguin=

Bob Hoskins for Penguin=

My Penguin list is topped by:

Joe Pantoliano
Phillip Seymore Hoffman
Bruce McGill
Paul Giamatti

Timothy Spall just always seems to play grimy, boorish characters - its hard to picture him playing a non-Burton Penguin.
