The Dark Knight Petition for TDK's Oscar (EVERYONE read!!)

TDK was a good movie, but hardly worthy of a best picture nomination. all this talk of it being a brilliant masterpiece is ridiculous and kinda bugs me. i liked the film, but it has too many flaws to keep it from being a best picture worthy masterpiece. a nomination for heath, that i could get behind.

LMFAO!

Didn't the Oscars nominate No Country For Old Men.

That movie was a joke. The Oscars have nominated horrible **** for some one who has high taste in movies.

And I think the Dark Knight was better than Gladiator, There Will Be Blood, and even, the astounding Platoon.

I signed it, not sure what good it'll do. Although I secretly wish for The Dark Knight to be considered for Best Picture (I honestly think it might have a chance) I wouldn't be disappointed if it didn't. Wishful fanboy thinking on my part :oldrazz:

Oscars are crap in these days. I will not talk about nominations, but best movie awards: Shakespeare in Love, Gladiator and Chicago are absolute terrible exemples of the past decade winners...

A petition isn't needed, this film will sell itself to the Academy voters, I'm convinced this film will get Best Picture nomination as well as nods for Directing, Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay and Cinematography, and with Wall-E also being received so well, next years Oscars are gonna look very different.

No it won't, because very few movies do. It's the studios job to sell the movie to the voters, especially with a summer release like TDK because it's memory will become more distant as the pretentious artsy fartsy "award season" movies come out in the fall. If WB thinks TDK is best pic worthy then it's their job to stay on the gas and keep that movie and its merits in the Academy's face.

I signed, if stupid LOTR can win this can too. Unless there's another dumb azz movie everyone loves like "There Will be Blood" again. Yeah I hated that movie.

Let's also not forget Braveheart, there's a best picture that's more beloved for it's kickass violent battle scenes than it's story and dialouge.

Star Wars the original summer schlock fest was a best picture nominee. ET, a pure family movie through and through and best picture nominee (that many argue should have won).

The Academy isn't going to disqualify TDK simply because of it's genre and if you want to argue otherwise then show me a prior superhero movie that got screwed out of a best picture nomination. I really think this movie will get the nom, just not the actual hardware.

When I say 'sell itself', I mean the quality of the film will sell itself, or course it's the studios job to make Academy voter aware of the film come award season, but it's gonna be a hard film to forget regardless, this isn't like Zodiac which was a drama released earlier on in the year and was quickly forgotten (which was a travesty), this film is gonna be hard for anyone to ignore, from now until early January, The Dark Knight is going to be hanging around like a bad smell (I don't mean that in a bad way).

Lol.. i remember there was an online petition to stop Uwe Boll..
http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?RRH53888

Almost 300000 signatures.. he said if it reaches 1 million he would stop making movies.. I mean come on.. the guy is bringing shame to the video game industry.he's movies have been slammed so many times by critics... but do you think he'd really stop if he got 1 million signatures?

I may be wrong but wasnt Norbit nominated for an Oscar? I think it was for make-up, but still, norbit! That hunk of crap was nominated for an Oscar! If a dumb Eddie Murphy film can even be talked about at an Oscar ceremony, The Dark Knight should definately be nominated

TWBB had a worse critical reception than TDK...you know from the people that should be the judges of a movie's quality but i'm sure how you'll spin that again :o

TDK has an average critic rating of 8.5 on rotten tomatoes. TWBB has an averag critic rating of 8.4. not that any if this matters since the critics reception has nothing to do with anything i said. i said the opinion of the general populace should have little effect on what decides the oscars, since the general populace generally has terrible taste in these matters.

And even though i liked TWBB except for Daniel Day Lewis everything else is nothing special...he holds the whole movie.
If anyone else is in his role the movie will be mediocre...and that doesnt speak too well of the other parts of the movie.

well, i'd argue that aside from the films incredible supporting cast, it also had phenominal cinematography, music, editing, and screenplay. better than TDK's, i'd say. and honeslty, walking out of TDK, i had the same thought you had in regards to TWBB. i found it easily possible that the movie would have been terribly mediocre had ledger not been what he was in the film.

But even if a dont consider it a masterpiece i'm not going to go on forums and brag about how it doesnt deserve the awards it's got...i'm not so egoistical to consider my oppinion more important than the masses or the awards juries.I hate nothing more when people consider their oppinion so valid...for yourself sure, but not to ignore everyone else's.

im not bragging about anything. someone said it deserves and oscar, i said it didnt. i do believe this place was designed for discussion of opinions. one person gave theres, i gave mine. and never did i say my opinion was more important than someone elses, so dont get yourself off on calling me arrogant. but god forbid i have a differing opinion from someone else. i never even said the film was bad. i agree its a good film, just not the masterpiece everyone makes it out to be.

I like the Godfather but i was never impressed with it,i like Goodfellas better...but you will never hear me say that the movie is overated or stuff like that...just because ONE person doesnt like something it doesnt lesser the value of it.

uhhh....okay? i think you need to be a little less defensive about other people's differing opinions, and instead maybe discuss the opinions rather than coming off as if your offended by them. i've stated my issues with the film, and instead of discussing those points you've only come back saying you think the film is perfect and im arrogant for stating otherwise.

And just because i loved TDK it doesnt mean i ''blindly'' will defend it...for myself it's perfect, just like you would consider something else perfect(or near)...it's called taste,it has nothing to do with me being a Batman fan...i don like Burton's movies i despise Schumacher's and i think BB is quite good but pretty flawed at the end.

glad you have your opinion. i dont agree with it. but i think we covered that.

carry on....

Ive not seen TDK yet but, shouldn't everyone see the rest of this years movies before signing anything ?

TDK is not best picture worthy. Maybe cinematography. and for heath. and for best crowl. :)

Hey, even if the Dark Knight does not get a nomination for Best Picture, it might be nominated or could even win awards for visual effects, art direction, make up, sound mixing, sound editing, or any of the other tech awards.

I do however think that Heath Ledger will at least get a best supporting actor nod for his awesome portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime. I saw the Dark Knight on opening night, and i was blown away by his portrayal.

For those who think Heath may not even get a nod, that's your opinion and i have my own.

All I have to say is, if LOTR:ROTK can get a best picture, I see no reason why TDK shouldn't at least get a nomination.

TDK should get an oscar simply because it will do what the academy wants to have.

Intelligent summer blockbusters to be more common.

By giving TDK respect, it can push more summer blockbuster to be more 'clever'

Which is exactly what I'm hoping for, TDK is proof that you can have an intelligent and mature popcorn flick, it set the bar for not only comic adaptations but blockbuster movie in general. That alone should get it an Oscar nomination for breaking that barrier between mainstream movie and smart drama.

I signed it simply because TDK has what it takes, regardless of how biased the Academy can be. Return of the King was able to break through the barrier, and so can TDK.

The nominations I see TDK possibly getting for sure are:

Best Supporting Actor
Best Director
Best Picture
Best Cinematography

Some other awards it might or might not get nominated for:

Best Adapted Screenplay or simply Best Screenplay
Best Editing
Best Sound
Best Sound mixing
Best Costume design

And then there are pretty much long shots:

Best Actor for Bale or Eckhart
Best Visual Effects

And then the one award it cant get nominated for because of a stupid rule I read somewhere:

Best Score

no way....no way.. really? no way..
I think if someone handed me a petition for a movie to get into the oscars I would right away not vote for it.
