Petitions Filed in 15 States to Leave the Union

It doesnt matter how many states its up to. Its unconstitutional and it flies in the face of democracy. Obama won the election. He got more of the popular vote and he won the EC. They can vote for someone else in four years.

Yep. It's just a big ol' temper tantrum.

First congress would need to approve an amendment saying a state can secede. Which they havent done. So the petitions are null and void. They shouldnt even be allowed to be presented to congress. First they should have to petition for an amendment. After an amendment is passed then because something like secession would affect all fifty states all fifty states should have to unanimously agree with the decision. Meaning if for example NC wants out of the Union all fifty states have to approve it at the polls. And this is after Congress votes on it. Congress may represent us but i dont feel their decision would be adequate enough for a decision as monumental as this would be. I certainly dont want to leave the union and il vote to see that it doesnt happen. Hell ill fight to see that it doesnt happen. My cry baby neighbors can kiss my ass.

Being as how anyone can file a petition and I doubt this is the first time 15 people in 15 separate states have filed a petition like this, I feel secure in being unsurprised and unmoved by this news.

Also it would make more sense to file a petition to change the constitution to allow secession since it is currently illegal. This like filing a petition to smoke pot--you can already smoke pot, it is just illegal. You should be filing a petition to legalize pot (on the federal level, I mean).

That's true. I'd say it's just getting press because of the election.

I know the chances of this actually happening are slim to none--but they better not end up tanking their economy jobs (I'm in Louisiana). If it does happen, I'm starting my own microstate. You guys that get dragged out of the union can come chill with me.

Ill bring the beer.

I bet Donald Trump's hair has a massive erection after reading about this.

This has happened before. Dont even give it a second thought. I'm not happy with the administration, but I certainly don't want to secede

Which is why I think this wont lead to anything. I've seen several posts on various websites by ardent Romney supporters condemning this.

The same thing happened in 08. Heck i know some people that wanted to secede back in 08. It isnt anything new, but i do think a revolution and or civil war is coming in the future. Most likely long after my time. Countries have growing pains and america wont be different. As a country we arent even into our adolescence yet. We are a two year old trying not to **** the bed.

Anyone that signed any one of those petitions isn't fit to poor pee out of a boot with instructions written under the heel.

I would not be surprised if some of the same people were signing multiple petitions, even if they were not from the state the petition was about.

Very likely. Not to mention there's few states that have two different petitions asking to leave that are listed.

I'm gonna start a counter proposal to the counter proposal. Deport the people who want these people deported. :p

Classic.

Yo dawg, I heard you like petitions so I made a petition to counter your petition.

I'm just curious how many of these people consider themselves hardcore patriots? Most of the people signing this probably think by doing this they're somehow restoring America to "what it should be". Yet at the same time they're basically saying they want to quit being American, and become a new country. Which is about as unpatriotic as you can get. If you truly love your country, and fellow countrymen, you'll try and fix the problems, rather than simply abandoning everything.

So yeah, I agree, this is just a bunch of people throwing tantrums. It just bugs me that this attitude even exists still.

^ My thoughts exactly. It's really kind of head-scratching and like a baby throwing a tantrum.

So, 30 petitions, 25,000 signatures each for a grand total of 750,000 people asking to secede from a union of 311,591,917. Yeah, that's going somewhere.

Texas might be the only state that could pull it off successfully.
