That's why i liked it. There didn't need to be another gimmicky like cruw. They kind of had it with the zombies, but I just liked how they didn't need to go so big again.
I don't think it's Verbinski (or Marshall). It's the writers. They're not trying hard. I think they need to bring in some new people to write future POTC films. Or at least if they don't ditch Elliott and Rossio, add at least one new writer. Then stop thinking about it and watch a good movie. It's not that hard.
But how big did you want it? You couldn't get much bigger than the previous film. Because they pretty much blew their load on that. I was so bored by it. I was just tired of the Verbinski style. Not to mention the ass story and characters didn't help its case either.

I tried to watch a good movie, but this was not.
How big do I want it? Curse big. That's quite big enough for a great time.
I was tired of the Rob Marshall style 13 seconds in. That guy sucks. All the shots were uninteresting, and bland.
That's probably why they hired him. When your previous director is unavailable, get someone who's not afraid to do bland.
Saw it. The mermaid love story was weak and forced. Blackbeard was a softie, he should have been way more evil. Angelica was annoying as hell.
Here's my real nitpick on the movie:
Why did Blackbeard need the fountain of youth to escape the prophecy of being killed by the one legged man?
I mean.... The fountain of youth does not make one immortal. It only gives you extra years of life that are taken from another life. You only are able to live longer. Still if you take for example 20 eyars from another life, a sword of bullet will still kill you as you are not immortal. So even if Blackbeard would have gotten 30 extra years from the fountain of youth, the one legged man would still kill him. The fountain of youth would have never saved Blackbeard from the one legged man.

The third was rushed for time and they wanted to film 2 and 3 back to back. The script next time may need some refreshing up, but all around, this still kept in line with the franchise.
Saw this last Friday. I enjoyed it more than part 2 and 3 but it was nothing spectacular. I would give it a 7.5 out of 10. The mermaid scene was the stand out moment.
The showing I went to was completely sold out. Anyone else have that one guy who laughed out loud at EVERY SINGLE JOKE in the movie? It got pretty old. He laughed at the jokes that weren't funny. Anyone else have that one guy too lol?

I thought this was about on the scale as the first.

His review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End is simply awsome.

I would hate to go to a movie with this guy...
And also, if you thought the first movie was rubbish, why bother going to see the rest? I mean, if you obviously hate the first one and hate the second one even more, did you ever really expect to like the third?
^ Funny reviews but his whole thing about there being "no story" and his overly-jumbled explanation of the beginning of OST were just wrong. There was a story and it was very straight-forward. It wasn't confusing, it wasn't overblown, it was easy to follow and it's a PIRATE movie. What else do pirates do besides search for treasure, sword fight, back-stab each other, etc? That's what they do, that's what these movies are about, what else do you expect?
