The story didn't fail. It is certainly a step up from the previous film.

Sadly, these movies could consist of Jack Sparrow taking a dump and they'd still rake in half a billion dollars.

I hate Jerry Bruckheimer.

That's why i liked it. There didn't need to be another gimmicky like cruw. They kind of had it with the zombies, but I just liked how they didn't need to go so big again.

Go big, or get the **** out....

They didnt need to go HUGE, but come on....the action was so bland, and uninteresting to look at. Where's the style? The class?

That wheel chase would've been boring as **** had Rob Marshall shot it...but Gore gave it such a cool style...he put the camera, lining it up with the wheel, so we spin with it.

That is genius. That was just so damn cool. And that action scene was hardly big. It was a wheel, on a island.

Hell, Curse, the final battle....the way they did the switch back from alive and cursed was just so perfect.

What was cool in this one? A CGI Jack flying over palm trees? No. It was all poorly shot. You dont need a huge budget to put the camera in unique places.

Also, **** those Zombies...they werent even Zombies...of any kind. If they were the original zombies, they shouldnt have been able to talk. If they were Romero Zombies....they shouldnt have been able to talk. Why the **** were they talking? Why did they hype Blackbeard and those stupid Zombies so much?

This is movie will give me an anerurysm. :o

Then stop thinking about it and watch a good movie. It's not that hard. :oldrazz:

But how big did you want it? You couldn't get much bigger than the previous film. Because they pretty much blew their load on that. I was so bored by it. I was just tired of the Verbinski style. Not to mention the ass story and characters didn't help its case either.

I don't think it's Verbinski (or Marshall). It's the writers. They're not trying hard. I think they need to bring in some new people to write future POTC films. Or at least if they don't ditch Elliott and Rossio, add at least one new writer.

I tried to watch a good movie, but this was not.

How big do I want it? Curse big. That's quite big enough for a great time.

I was tired of the Rob Marshall style 13 seconds in. That guy sucks. All the shots were uninteresting, and bland.

That's probably why they hired him. When your previous director is unavailable, get someone who's not afraid to do bland.

I don't think Marshall has the chops for action so if they make a Pirates 5 (and I sincerely hope they do), I hope they get someone else. Verbinski would be ideal, obviously, but if he's not available, at least someone who can do action.

But with that being said... maybe it was because my theater was so loud and because I was so excited to finally be experiencing another Pirates adventure, but I found the action to be exciting. Nothing will compare to CotBP and the cursed pirates going in and out of the moonlight, but I thought everything was perfectly acceptable and a lot of fun. I didn't see anything in this movie that looked bad, IMO.

As a whole, my only complaint about OST is that it was missing some of the magic that the first trilogy had. It didn't have any references to the ride (that I noticed) and Blackbeard kind of went out too easily. I mean, it's freaking BLACKBEARD, one of the most famous pirates of all time and he was kind of a third-tier character. But those are minor gripes to me, I loved it and can't wait to see it again!

Saw it. The mermaid love story was weak and forced. Blackbeard was a softie, he should have been way more evil. Angelica was annoying as hell.

Here's my real nitpick on the movie:
Why did Blackbeard need the fountain of youth to escape the prophecy of being killed by the one legged man?
I mean.... The fountain of youth does not make one immortal. It only gives you extra years of life that are taken from another life. You only are able to live longer. Still if you take for example 20 eyars from another life, a sword of bullet will still kill you as you are not immortal. So even if Blackbeard would have gotten 30 extra years from the fountain of youth, the one legged man would still kill him. The fountain of youth would have never saved Blackbeard from the one legged man.
It saved Anjelica so it would have saved him. Its like many literary prophecy, it the act of avoiding it it comes to fruition
that being said i hated cruz's character from her annoying accent to her annoying hat

The third was rushed for time and they wanted to film 2 and 3 back to back. The script next time may need some refreshing up, but all around, this still kept in line with the franchise.

I thought this was about on the scale as the first.

Did not think this was good. It was okay, at best.

Felt like it was bland. Depp was good, but Blackbeard stunk. He was hardly menacing. Barbossa was way better.

It felt incredibly anti-climatic when they finally found the fountain. It just sorta ends after that within 10 minutes. Sucks.

I REALLY hope they don't make another 2 more (they're planning on shooting 5 and 6 back-to-back I believe) but sadly it'll happen.

Agreed. Depp was hilarious and of course great as Jack.

Saw this last Friday. I enjoyed it more than part 2 and 3 but it was nothing spectacular. I would give it a 7.5 out of 10. The mermaid scene was the stand out moment.

The showing I went to was completely sold out. Anyone else have that one guy who laughed out loud at EVERY SINGLE JOKE in the movie? It got pretty old. He laughed at the jokes that weren't funny. Anyone else have that one guy too lol?

Yeah we got one. He was with my group :D

Yes but...it was just so bland...

Look at all the scenes from the first movie...

Compare them to this one. There's a huge difference.

There's a video of the final battle somewhere on YouTube...find it, and compare it with the final battle in Curse....

Which one is more interesting?

Curse is by far...both have the revenge angle going on...yet Curse gives a satisfying end.

Tides just....slice...and that's it. Awesome. Where's the tension? Where's the style?

I had a friend who did that during the first movie. I honestly thought we were going to get kicked out of the theater. She wouldn't stop. :funny:

^ Funny reviews but his whole thing about there being "no story" and his overly-jumbled explanation of the beginning of OST were just wrong. There was a story and it was very straight-forward. It wasn't confusing, it wasn't overblown, it was easy to follow and it's a PIRATE movie. What else do pirates do besides search for treasure, sword fight, back-stab each other, etc? That's what they do, that's what these movies are about, what else do you expect?

And also, if you thought the first movie was rubbish, why bother going to see the rest? I mean, if you obviously hate the first one and hate the second one even more, did you ever really expect to like the third?

I think it's his job. I've been in that position where I liked some sequels better than others within the same franchise. However if someone doesn't find the first film amusing then they are definitely need to movie on. These films are a bit repetitive but I enjoy them and wouldn't want much of a change.
I can understand the complaints about too much convolution in AWE but I kinda liked everyone having their own purpose or something to do.
