Poltergeist remake...

Trying to remake a Spielberg movie now? Nice.

With Monster House director Gil Kenan's reboot of Poltergeist gearing up for a fall shoot, rumors have emerged about the film's plot and characters.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, "the new version follows Eric Bowen and his family who, after he loses his job, relocate to a new town to start anew. His daughter, Madison, is abducted, making him truly understand what’s important in life: family. In the new version, Eric’s wife, Amy, can communicate with the dead."

Other new characters include Carrigan Burke, the host of a TV series called Haunted House Cleaners., and Dr. Brooke Powell, the latter described as "Carrigan’s ex-wife who is a parapsychologist at a local university. Her team investigates the supernatural events surrounding the disappearance of the Bowen girl."

I can say that the script I read about two years was seriously awful. With that said, there is one thing that if improved upon I think could still be in this draft. And that is they actually do go to the spirit world which is seen very stylistically. It's almost a German expressionistic form of what 'Insidious' had done. There was just no heart in the draft I read or likable characters - I think that's what the Monster House director probably brought to the table with him.

Sounds awful, thank God they aren't remaking the Freelings.

Never knew that came from something before. First I heard of going there was this script, then Insidious which did it leagues better, it makes sense in the plot and explains where the girl disappears to. But the writing behind it was TERRIBLE.

Keep in mind that script was two years ago, so I'm thinking it had a lot of development since then. The key weakness was horrible plotting, terrible character development, and no heart. Which really stands out as missing since it's a remake of a Spielberg film which always has that and more.

It'll be bad. So that makes it different.

I'm pretty sure it is still the Freeling family but with a different name. If I recall correctly, the prior draft had a different last name too. Also the general gist of the plot sounds strikingly similar to what I remember reading. That said, that script was two years or more old. I read it before seeing the IGN sneak preview for 'Insidious' and before the last two PA movies so it was ancient lol.

The way I look at it is this: Who talks about the 'Night of the Living Dead' remake from 1990? Nobody. Sorry Tom. So if this movie sucks, it'll be forgotten. Which is even easier with today's ADHD society. YAH!

Poltergeist is a perfect horror film and should never be remade.

Poltergeist is as perfect as Jaws, American Werewolf in London and Rosemary's Baby as those are quality perfection and besides nobody in Hollywood is dumb enough to remake Jaws as they know to leave it alone as it has stood the test of time.

Also I pretty sure if anybody tried to remake jaws Spielberg would have them eradicated.

Is it bad I want to see this remade only to see if the rumored curse kicks in? Other than that, I think they need to leave this series alone.

I still can't believe the little girl is gone in real life. She died at what, 13 or something???? From appendicitis right?

Not that I am aware of. I watched a documentary on this and I just remember something to do with her stomach. I also know the death with the older sister from Poltergeist 1, where she was strangled by her boyfriend. I can't remember who else died during or around the films. I got to try and find that documentary, it was something on E Hollywood true life stories or something to that extent.

Considering that the so-called "curse" killed at least three castmembers from the original movies.... yes, it is bad of you to want that. :o

She died of cardiac arrest and septic shock from misdiagnosed intestinal stenosis. More simply she died from a heart attack caused by poisoned blood from narrowed blood vessels that killed part of her bowels.

I would like to see the movie's premise redone, but not sure a remake of the movie itself should be done. It's not like we haven't seen haunting movies before.

Will this one actually be scary?

I don't mean I want deaths. I just want to see if the weird reports some people made show up again.
As for the little girl, she was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, but in she actually had some kind blockage that would actually have been easily fixed with surgery, had she been diagnosed correctly. She died from toxic shock I believe.

Same here, what I loved about this movie was that it was a didn't kind of ghost story. It wasn't gothic in anyway. No candelabras covered in cobwebs or creaking staircases. It was a modern ghost, it had scientists studying them, it had dimensional portals and sh**. It was awesome.

Not sure about this one ...

That would be an interesting addition, though.

Damn you Sam, now I'm gonna feel guilty when I bash this movie!
