The special effects and the sexiness of the two leads is pretty impressive. The sets are also beautiful looking. It's not going to be anything more than a fun, swashbuckling, dumb movie, which I'm perfectly fine with.

The trailer was... ok-ish, I guess...

Looks like it'll have terrible acting but fantastic action.

That scene with him swinging off the post reminds me of Assassians Creed. Wouldn't be surprised if they start making a movie for hit after this hits big.

I'm pretty sure the acting will be top notch. Jake, Alfred Molina, and Ben Kingsley are all grade A actors.

I've always found Jake bad, Molina is just alright, and Ben is going full on Bloodrayne from what I can see. Which is to be expected from him. This isn't Gandi, this is a house payment.

Well, it looks a little too jokey for my tastes, and the English accents are curious, but so far there aren't any big red flags. Still undecided on this one.

When that sand is all wrapped around his arm he kind of looks like the evil version of himself from PoP3. Foreshadowing maybe?

Just saw the trailer, I think it looks like grandiose fun! nice mix of playful adventure movie and old style Sinbad sword and sorcery, not sure why the English accent but I don't really give a ****.

Agreed...thought it looked pretty good. Had no expectations really but I was impressed.

Meh. I was on the fence about this because video game movies are made of fail but Bruckheimer's got a really good track record. I think I'll go with 2012 for my mindless-action-with-epic-scope fix.

Well, it's one deviation away towards "******ed". I haven't seen the film, but the issue is almost everyone spoke in English accents, yes? While it is true that English would never be spoken in the first place, it is absolutely moronic to completely exclude the German roots of the characters. German accents speaking English, as opposed to English accents speaking English makes much more sense in the context of the movie. So even if you cannot be completely accurate for the sake of your audience, you go as close as you can.

That's a different issue altogether, however. I presume you're implying that fantasy precludes a production from taking other aspects of the film seriously? Because, well...that's just another rant waiting to sprout. :o

I actually hadn't seen the film either, but I had heard the issue was that some of the characters spoke with an English Accent while Cruise did nothing to alter his voice.

In that case, it's not a very good setup, because if you're going to have a dialect, all the characters should have the same dialect, unless the script calls for a certain character to have a certain dialect.

However, in regards to the British accent, many movies and plays adopt what we think of as a British or English accent for certain roles, while in reality the actors are just speaking very properly. Using "heightened Language." Take the play Les Liaisons Dangereuses, better known for it's movie counterpart, Dangerous Liaisons. In the play, and in the movie, the actors speak with what sounds like is a British dialect. Again, they're simply speaking in heightened language. Annunciating very clearly, hitting all the consonants, ect. ect. It's that very prim and proper tone of voice that we associate with British, but it's not necessarily British, but simply a style applied to any play that uses heightened language. Like Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which is actually set in France, yet they never use French-accented English in any of the productions.

Now, I can't say if Valkyrie was using this method, but it's a commonly used method in both film and plays when the play or movie uses heightened language.

that was awesome

to anyone complainin about accents, go play the game, he sounds exactly the same. If you want something realistic dont see a movie based off a game. Besides if your gonna complain about accents you might as well complain about the fact that they are speaking in english to begin with.
