Prince of Persia:The Sands of Time

You've watched a trailer...you can't really go judging the film and saying it doesn't have a heart by watching the trailer.

It just stinks of sour grapes.

Not every film needs to be a masterpiece... light entertainment has its market too, and that's a good thing. If all films were masterpieces, then none of them would be. The bar would be raised as the standard, and the exceptional would then be average.

Plus, I've learned enough on here not to judge a film, for good or bad, by its trailer.
I'm judging the movie by what I've seen so far, yes. I didn't say I was right. I didn't say I was wrong. I simply stated what I felt from the scent of the trailer.
heart?? really?? this is a video game adaptation we're talking about...in the game, the Prince is portrayed as kind of a vapid bastard until he realizes the **** he's caused
So, there can't be a heart to that kind of character?... All I want to see the characters do is emote like themselves. I don't want to see them act like characters they're not. Give them some depth. I'm so sick of hearing this excuse from people: "Well, this is the genre, dude." Fine. I respect that it's in a certain genre. However, I'm not just gonna sit back and say: "Oh, big action! Good-looking actors! Mind-blowing special-effects! Oh, my! I've gotta see this movie!"
You don't know that because you have never seen it, cinema has genre's, this is in the same genre as stuff like BTTF and the Indiana Jones movies, they were not deep heartfelt meaning of life movies, these were action adventure films filled with fun and entertainment and likable characters, b/c that is their genre, they are there to entertain viewers who want some escapism, it doesn't mean the same viewers can't also enjoy other kinds of films, that is the whole idea of genre, plus you make it sound like every Hollywood movie is a summer blockbuster, which is incorrect.
Well, I don't think that 'District 9' would fit there. But, I hope that you recognize my point.

'Hunter', this is me. Okay? I'm stubborn when it comes to movies like these because I always think about what they could do to bend the genre; besides just giving us some action sequences that we may have never seen before. Sure, the movie may entertain you. But, why not add some more added sprinkles to spice it up? From what I've seen so far, there are (pretty much) no sprinkles. [But, remember, this is just what I'm sensing from the trailer. I'm not trying to pretend like I've seen the movie already. I'm just casting judgments.]
Fair enough.
I assume you're comment about the "character having a heart " is more about the dedication of the actors right ? That they're giving their best as opposed to just appearing in the next big franchise for the paycheck ...

Personally i think that in this case the LOTR franchise would be a great example because the actors really gave their best to the characters they were playing.
I don't mind the actors, actually. I saw Al Molina, for a second, in there (maybe they'll give us a nice nod to 'Raiders'). Glyenhaal doesn't seem so bad, either. I think that the girl could be good in her role. However, she seems to have too much explaining to do. Also, I kinda rolled my eyes at the lame dialogue between the two characters. Just generic movie dialogue-101, in my opinion.

I don't think that 'LOTR' would be good to compare with this movie. Personally, I'd compare it to a movie like (ironically) 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. That movie succeeded because of the actors, whether they be leading or supporting characters. They all brought us unique and colourful characters. However, it was obviously Harrison Ford who had to be the best of the bunch. And, he was. He had both the charm and the charisma to pull off the character. But, he also had that look that made him feel real. He didn't look like a supermodel simply posing for trailer-shots. He looked real. Like somebody you could meet anywhere on the street.

Glyenhaal, on the other hand... Not so much. So, that makes it increasingly hard to like his character because you see him immediately as the guy who's "perfect", in a way. You don't see him have any problems whatsoever. He's just posing and looking good for the camera. God, if you want to do that kind of crap. Why don't you start doing perfume commercials, or something? I know Hayden Christensen is doing them now, 'cause I just saw one on the TV about two weeks ago!

If any films should be compared to Rings note yet coming out id say it should easily be Avatar the Cameron film. Although think Last Air Bender will be good too. I am checking this out cause its an original idea and finally not a remake or comic book or cartoon movie made live action.
No offense ment for i like comic book movies but like different stuff too.
The trailer looked pretty good not great. I don't think it will be as good as Rings or even Pirates 1 but certainly worth a ticket for a summer rmovie

ohhh yeah. money shot after money shot and tons of lens flares. a fun movie for relaxing.

and ye they speed the camera move. so dont start complaining that its unrealistic.

Such a great scene.

Loved the slo mo shot of the snake coming towards Dasdan. The trailer is alot better in HD.

With this film I'm not looking for it to be a groundbreaking or complex film. (Maybe in terms of a video game film actually being good) I'm looking for escapist fun but well directed, written, and acted, you know, something that is smart enough but with cool action. Like the first POTC. A summer blockbuster but with brains and high adventure for measure. Indiana Jones did this. They're not layered or overly deep movies of any sort. They're exciting, fun and well made with great characters with cracking scripts. That's what I hope to expect here.

Is it just me, or do these two (or 1.5, to be correct) sentences appear contradictory.

The first Mummy was great. A perfect example of taking the classic hollywood adventure style-feel and updating it for a modern audience. I'd put it up there with other modern adventure classics like the first POTC, and the Indy series.

The second Mummy...well...yeah. I didn't even bother to watch the third.

But the first was good stuff.

I don't know why people compare the Mummy to Indy, other than the similar time period and focus. Yeah, the Mummy is fun entertainment, but Indy can also take itself seriously. A better comparison is POTC. I just don't get the same vibe as I did with POTC. Maybe its the lead, but I don't see this being the next POTC franchise Disney is banking on.

I agree.

Since I'm not big on the games, can anyone tell me, was Dasdan the main character in any of the games?

That sort of imagery with his body when it touches the dagger looks similar to the game covers where you can like turn good or evil. Which Prince of Persia was that? Was that also Sands of Time?

i don't remember the name but i know the dark prince was from the The Two Thrones the third POP game

I think the movie looks like fun. I'm not greedy enough to hope for another POTC 1 but I'd be happy with a National Treasure 1.

And Jake looks sexy as all get out.

Also, those who say this scene reminds them of AC, it's what The Prince would do in the latest Prince of Persia game. Whenever there was a new location to go to, you had to climb to the highest point of the area and scope it out.

well in the Sands of Time series, the Prince (Im not sure of his name, I just went with the Prince)....the concept of the Dark Prince came in during the second game (Warrior Within) and the third game (the Two Thrones)...essentially using the dagger and influencing time is slowly corrupting the Princes soul

Looks good to me. Hopefully it can match the first POTC in terms of entertainment value.

Shame we won't be getting a "Princess" action figure or any of the major bad guys since they all seem to play a pretty big role in the film.

Cheers.

this film has a mix of all games

Story of SOT
Wardrobe of Warrior Within
Personality and Relationship with Female lead as the new POP Game
