Prometheus - Part 2

i always go first thing saturday morning.

i have the most PLEASURABLE experience, especially when i take my kids to see a kids movie.

but i agree with you. I went to see the new Friday the 13th with about 50 facebook friends through my friend who is a promoter, and we had a BALL. We had a whole theater to ourselves, and everyone yelled and screamed and threw things at the screen!

everyone enjoyed it except my date, she was a considerably younger than me and thought Friday the 13th was a love story. i cried for days after she told me that.

HAHA! Like "Valentines Day" or "New Years Eve"? lol

My criteria is based on whether it is something that deserves to be seen on the big screen. Like Dark Knight Returns is shot for IMAX, so it would be a crime not to see that in theaters. But if it is not a movie that MUST be seen on big screen...I'll just wait for Netflix.

But I'm like you about early Saturday! You usually don't get a dopey, rude crowd because those folks are sleeping in. The late crowd can be filled with teenagers that are there because they can't yet get into a club, or maybe even drive, so the only way they can hang out on a weekend night is have mommy drop them at the theater. Plus, the first show is usually cheaper. But then I'm a morning person. Call me lame, but I'd rather be relaxing at home in the evening, and I've usually got "being out for the day" out of my system by then.

The best thing about Predators, it has the basic decency to keep it's negative attributes to itself as a film and never tarnishes any other films of the franchise. It's a little too homagey, a little too fast paced and Laurence Fishbourne didn't get enough screentime, but none of that has any bearing on the other films and for that I respect the absolute hell out of the film.

Also Brody was awesome, I deserve an Ash nipple cripple for doubting him.

Predators did have some faults, probably the biggest being too reverental of the first movie. But the cast WAS good. I didn't think I was going to like Brody in that kind of role, but his character ended up being one of the best things in the film!

Hell, what has this thread become?

We really are running slow on news here. We desperatly need this trailer.

...I think you have something there

How did this thread move to Page 2? Prometheus should *always* be Page 1 news.

STICKEH THIS THREDD

Prometheus Nerf Guns?

I can bounce it up a bit by saying once again how much I look forward to this film? This is spam? Anticipation of a Ridley Scott space opera can never be spam.

This is definatly going to be MY film of the year 2012, right up there with TDKR and TGWTDT (which isent coming out in Germany until January 12th)

I call fanmade on this one. Looks like a toy, not like a movie prop. Also why should they write PROMETHEUS on the gun? Isen t that the name of their ship. Sounds a bit ******ed.

Edit: Just read that this is actually supposed to be the toy replica. That explains the look and why it says Prometheus on it. Still, I m not too impressed by it.

Oh come on for a nerf gun tie in thats pretty damn sweet.

Is it really supposed to be a Nerf....? If so, then:

a) That's the most "realistic" looking gun Nerf's ever put out....none of that bright plastic yellow and orange stuff. And
b) With a Nerf marketing tie-in, that definitely means PG-13 instead of R....sad panda :csad:

Dude they make toys of Freddy Krugger Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers. Just because it's a Nerf doesn't mean it will be PG-13

No it doesn't. Back in the 80s and 90s I recall getting Alien and Predator toys, even Terminator figures. Licensing means nothing.

I owned tons of Terminator and Alien action figures as a kid...

I had Terminator and Alien action figures as well. I also had Robocop action figures

It does mean something now. No figures marketed to kids will be from any R-Rated films.

There's the collector toys, that have Terminator, Predator..ect. But they're not intended for kids.

Probably some Hot Toy renditions. That's about it though probably.

And that may very well be the case with this nerf gun. As many have noted the quality on this is above and beyond anything else Nerf normally puts out. It might be the case that this gun isn't something that's going to be found in a aisle at Toys R Us.

Lest you not forget "Rambo and the Forces of Freedom" toy and cartoon

so your saying that movies are less violent now?

Or are you saying R movies today wouldnt feature a toy line?

maybe not a wall of Prometheus toys at your local toys R Us, but still toy products..even ones marketed to adults are possible.

The "adult" toy(HQ replicas and figures)/ collectible items have a much bigger market today.

Well save for the "birth" scene, Alien would be PG-13 today. As long as there aren't many explicit chest bursting scenes, I don't see Prometheus being anymore toned down, which is fine by me.

No. It's still an R-Rated scene. Easily.

Most films today are rated by the tone of the film. Rather then content. But content is still rated.

And yes to R-Rated films not having toy lines marketed to kids. Collector companies like NECA or McF can make all the R-Rated toy lines they want...but as long as they're not marketed to kids in anyway...it'ts good.

I think Alien would still be rated R even without the chest bursting scene. It has such a dread filled atmosphere and tone. Plus all the sexual/male rape undertones etc.

There are child sized costumes of characters from Watchmen and V for Vendetta and both of those are solidly R rated films. not to mention there are plenty of figures from watchmen that aren't just expensive collector quality. They might not be sitting at Toys R us but 12 year olds basically own the malls.

I think it's more of a matter of the type of R rated films that get made today rather than some unofficial rule against R rated merchandising for kids. Most movies that are made for an R rating these days just aren't the kind of thing that can be merchandised in the first place...unless you're really itching for an officially licensed black swan makeup kit and tutu.

There is no such thing as Watchmen child costumes.

There are R-Rated films who's costumes are made for children (Freddy, Jason, Myers, Ghostface) but that's because they're monsters. And monsters always sell to kids.

If you've been to a Toys R Us recently, you'll notice how the set up is. There's one isle that is filled with "collector toys" which include NECA figures, McFarlane Figures, Mezco, and others. This isle has figures from R-Rated and M video games. They are not intended for children.

On the other isle, you'll find Star Wars, Transformers, Marvel...and others. Every figure line is either from a kid friendly soruce, or a PG-13 movie.

You will not find any mass marketed toys sent to stores like Wal-Mart or Target from an R-Rated film.
