Prometheus - Part 2

I'm happy you enjoyed Girl With The Dragon Tattoo more than me. I wish I could have enjoyed it. :csad:

Ya it is a different film, not my favorite by Fincher by any means, but I still enjoyed it. But that sucks lol. I kept saying to the people I went with: "Prometheus!" then it never showed lol. Mine was a Signature Theater.

Our theater has a standee and poster but no trailer sadly.

3 trailers, hyping a trailer.

Guys, I'm gonna be a debbie downer.

I know, I know. I'm not trolling, I swear.

Ridley Scott, only a few years ago, said that sci fi was as dead as the western. He has Oscar success with Gladiator, a period epic. He tries to emulate that success with Robin Hood. Fails miserably. The filming was plagued by constant script changes and the film was panned and dissed to high heaven. I didn't even think Gladiator was THAT good. It's good, but certainly no Blade Runner. Scott, to me, like SO many older directors, seems like a man who's best days are behind him.

So, Ridley's lost his desire to chase Oscars, and now wants to return to the past glory he has had in the sci fi genre. In the same way Robin Hood tried to copy the success of Gladiator, so is Prometheus trying to copy the same success as Alien. It's a prequel, its got the same basic formula and atmosphere. I see the whole thing as quite a cynical move by someone trying to re-live past glory.

The Directors Cut of Kingdom of Heaven was a masterpiece.

Scott is doing Prometheus because he genuinely wants to tell a story.

Anyone here confident this will be successful financially?

I mean, I really hope it surprises everyone and makes a **** ton of money...but I find myself thinking it will be great movie, but fail with audiences.

Just my gut talking, hopefully people recognize this and go out to see it. If this movie does better than I think it will do...I will go nuts!

Oh, bull. Scott is a studio man who nods his head and listens. He has no passion. Body of Lies, Robin Hood, Hannibal, A Good Year, American Gangster. There is absolutely no sense of care or effort in any of these films. "Joe Director" down the road could've directed all of these movies.

In my opinion, he's got three movies worth a damn: Alien, Blade Runner, and Gladiator. Everything else is passable, forgettable. Black Hawk Down might be the only reasonable exception. But even then, he's got 4 movies that are decent for my money.

I genuinely believe that someone, maybe not Scott, but an editor, or a Fox producer, somewhere down the line, will screw Prometheus up. I can feel it in my bones that this movie won't be good.

This is all my opinion, of course.

Yea and your opinion is wrong. Body of Lies is great. Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut is a masterpiece. Matchstick Men was criminally ignored at the Oscars. He has two seminal sci fi films under his belt.

He's done some bad films but I can't understand how anyone can say Ridley Scott is anything but a brilliant director.

The director's cut of kingdom of heaven is a great film. The studio ruined that film making him cut entire plot points out and tried to turn it into some 2 and a half hour blockbuster. If you haven't seen it you should watch it.

Ridely is one of the last old school directors. Relying on sets and in camera effects instead of going the easy route of CGI.

If there's no aliens in this flick, what the hell is the antagonist?

It's like the Hype hellmouth sensed this thread was too positive.......

I think the main antagonist of this movie will be [BLACKOUT]20th Century Fox. [/BLACKOUT]

Oh, there's no doubt about that.

It's really not a question of "How good will this movie be?" It's more a question of "How will Fox **** this up?"

Exactly.

And the other question is, "Is Ridley still as passionate as he was in 1979?"

I don't think Scott would work with Fox again after the Kingdom of Heaven debacle unless he was given full creative control.

I have no doubt that Scott is just as passionate now as he was then. But when you have a studio telling you to cut this and cut that, and to trim an R-rated film down to something that would score a PG-13, there's only so much you can do.

If Fox has any sense about them, they'll leave this film alone. People don't go to films like this to see something that has been blatantly watered down.

I had NO CLUE that this movie got watered down from R to PG-13. I was just expressing my concerns before I even knew that.

Yeah, this movie is doomed. That just seals the deal for me.

Man some of you guys are weird. I don't care what it's rated, I'll still see it.

.... Wha?

I was talking about how Scott's recent big-budget endeavors have suffered from studio interference, and how that has played a part in the impression that Scott has been slipping lately. Far from it. He's just been the victim of having his films messed with after-the-fact. More often than not, studio interference leads to a disappointing product.

The Theatrical Cut of Kingdom of Heaven is not even in the same galaxy as the Director's Cut. Which is why I hope FOX let's Scott's vision for this film come through as it is. No cutting down for the sake of runtime. No cutting down for the sake of rating. Let the film be what it is. I'd rather not wait six extra months for a superior film.

That's all I was trying to say. Why you're taking this personally is beyond me. Or am I misreading your remarks?

This is more boring than the rumors of Bane being trained by Liam Neason in the Prolouge.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling !!! LOL

At least those rumors were debunked.

I fear for this film. :csad:

I heard Scott is filming two versions. Apparently, it's up to the studio in which one it'll use for June.
